Hi! I'm Ori!

This is my introduction - filled with a bunch of art

I guess the headliner is "I've been creating a new work of art every single day for the last 2,625 days in a row!" - but that's just a small part of the story. I say it first, because I plan on sharing my art with you. It, like me, is all over the place.

I'm ORIginally from Israel. I learned English by watching cartoons (that might explain a lot). Lived in South Florida for 20 years- needed to renew my lease, so gave my stuff away, got on the road, and looked for where I'd renew my lease next... That roadtrip lasted 6 years, and took me everywhere.  I was blogging under "Couch Surfing Ori" 

I won't lie, it was a lot of fun-  but more importantly, I got to discover a ton about myself and people in general. I stayed with hundreds of people over those 6 years, had many adventures, and listened to thousands of hours of audio books as I drove around. But before it ended, I went to Maui, where a buddy took me to some galleries, and my heart was broken. 

It broke because I was always drawing, but didn't know it was my thing. I wasn't even showing my stuff to people. In 2001, a girlfriend told me to do an art show... I tried it (but it wasn't a real art show- was one of those "First Friday things" - and the weather sucked), and didn't sell anything... So, figured that I'm not an artist, and quit making any art for 10 years. 

Yeah - it hurt... realizing that I wasn't doing my thing... the thing that I was doing for no reason other than wanting to.... Not because someone told me that I should, or that there's money in it.  So,  the daily art began.... I had 10 years to make up for.

I'm a goofball, I'd like to think that I'm funny.


Now I"m in my 8th year of daily art (many pieces take longer than a day, but I only get 1 day of credit for them when they're completed - having to make other pieces to post for the day while I work on the tougher pieces).


Anyways- I bounce around a lot (side effect of couchsurfing for 6 years. Typing this from Mexico, been here for a year, probably going mobile again shortly. So... I guess I'll leave the adventures and art for my future posts. Just wanted to say hello! It's an honor to be here. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

My favorite art to create is personal art that tells the story of the people it's for. I've never taken Steem $ for commissions, but I'd love to learn how :)

There's a part in there that reminds me of your name - he talks about this happy looking dude, driving a classic car, windows down, music blasting - license plate says "Dues Paid".

Welcome to the Steem Blockchain @theartofori Interesting art work and even more interesting story. Posting daily will do wonders for you here, although it might take a lit bit to gain some traction. Main thing is to hang in there and be consistent. Also, up voting others, commenting and responding to comments also does wonders.

The daily art has taught me consistency... The commenting / responding is what I've been doing for years now.. I reply / like every single comment on each platform... though, I'm starting to see that some platforms (such as Steemit) may be better. I'll certainly give it my best effort!

Thanks @orlev (I still know my Hebrew, so I get the beauty of your name... or... the creepiness of what happens when someone misspells your name with an Ayin instead of an Aleph :p -- I make the joke that my name means "My light... unless you misspell it, then it's my skin, or my leather... which is great if you're going to a fetish party!" :p )

I appreciate the encouragement and kind words. I don't have any immediate plans for Portugal, but a friend did plant some seeds in my mind recently about how amazing it is.

Yes! I absolutely plan on posting a new work of art every single day (my days are longer than 24 hours, as I don't go to sleep until the artwork has been posted... often that's in the middle of the night). I plan on posting, full STEEM ahead! :)

Thanks so much! My buddy that told me about Steemit said something similar.... He said I'd rock it on here... he was explaining the blockchain, and getting paid.... but, after just one post, I can see that I am going to like this way more than the other platforms I post to.... Like it more for the people, and interactivity.

Thanks so much! People here are so nice. The money is a great thing to look forward to, but is not my primary motivator with the art. (Though, now that I sold a piece for$10,000 for Alice Cooper's foundation, I am emphasizing selling more)

Welcome to Steem, Ori! Your art is amazing, so vivid and each piece is more than worthy of a post dedicated to it! I think it's great that you don't stick to one subject matter and create from what is within you and inspires you as it flows. Personally, I adore cartoons and think they don't get enough credit for what they can impart. (It's pretty awesome that you were able to learn English from them.)

Though it's saddening to read that you stopped making your art for ten years (considering how talented you are and how much you loved doing it), I think it's great that you rallied began anew.

We encourage everyone to explore the various posts and to leave personal comments on those that you wish (for example - your thoughts regarding the post's content). This platform thrives through interaction as it's the best way to build relationships with other Steemians while finding communities and initiatives that peak your interests.

Another tip that we share with everyone is to cite if images, videos, etc. used in their posts are of their own creation. This practice has two benefits:

  • It gives you an opportunity to have it clearly labeled that the works portrayed are your original and rightful property.

  • It helps to protect against copyright infringement when using material that is not of your original creation. Content (for example - images from a website) that grants permission for reuse is acceptable for content creators to utilize within their posts provided there is appropriate attribution to the source. Here's a link that will provide you with more information.

Have you heard of #PYPT? Each Thursday (at 11 A.M. & 7 P.M. EST) @Shadowspub hosts the Pimp Your Post Thursday show in The Ramble discord where everyone can share their favorite posts. Sharing isn't limited to only your own posts, many come to pimp out other authors' content that they feel deserves more attention.
