Eichi se acomodó en el asiento del deslizador y aceleró a la máxima velocidad que la máquina pudo avanzar, alrededor de él, columnas de agua se elevaban desde la superficie del lago, como si de muros se tratará, se interponían en su camino a la costa donde se encontraba su destino.

En el fondo del lago artificial, varios centenares de jets impulsores, disparaban cargas de cientos de litros de agua en una secuencia completamente aleatoria. Su propósito era impedir el paso de los que se aventurarán a intentar cruzar el cuerpo de agua de una costa a la otra.

A la par de Eichi, otros veintinueve participantes intentaban por diferentes rutas completar el trayecto, varias rampas y pequeños puentes, situados también aleatoriamente, podían ayudarlos a acortar el camino, o por el contrario, retrasarlos en su carrera.

A su derecha, mientras Eichi esquivaba un muro que se levantaba repentinamente frente a él, el participante de Palas fue lanzado por los aires, al no contar con tanta suerte; mientras que adelante, una repentina rampa hacia caer a uno de los dos venidos de Cerbero. “¿Cómo un planeta sin lagos, ni cuerpos de agua significativos, podía tener dos clasificados en este evento?”, pensó, mientras lo veía caer de bruces con su deslizador estrellándose contra la fría superficie del agua.

En la gigantesca pantalla aérea, proyectada en la cúpula sobre el lago, se podía ver la lista de participantes que continuaban en la carrera. Ya sólo eran él y otros doce. Pierce, de Belerofonte, continuaba a la cabeza, otro de esos participantes venidos de mundos de los que no se imaginaba, cómo pudieron llegar aquí.

El lago tenia diez kilómetros de un extremo a otro y uno más de ancho, era la medida oficial exigida por el comité olímpico, el número de jets, debía oscilar entre los mil y mil quinientos, en realidad la cifra exacta era desconocida para los participantes y cambiaba de carrera en carrera, pero los participantes de rondas anteriores, decían que nunca habían visto tantos activos. Muchos afirmaban que era el circuito más difícil que habían recorrido.

Despertó diez minutos después sobre una camilla en la enfermería, un muro de agua lo había despedido repentinamente unos quince metros en el aire, desmayándolo con el impacto. Había quedado descalificado a menos de cien metros de la llegada. El ganador fue Mateo Alvarado, el participante de Caronte, quien, en último momento, logró superar a Pierce que quedo en segundo lugar. El tercer lugar quedo desierto, pues sólo ellos lograron terminar la carrera.

He woke up ten minutes later on a stretcher in the infirmary, a wall of water had suddenly released him about fifteen meters into the air, knocking him out with the impact. He had been disqualified less than a hundred yards from the arrival. The winner was Mateo Alvarado, the participant of Caronte, who, at the last moment, managed to overtake Pierce who came in second place. The third place was deserted, because only they managed to finish the race.
