Can STEEM ever get back into the top 50 by Market Cap?

Can STEEM ever get back into the top 50 by Market Cap?

Currently, looking at Coinmarketcap.com STEEM is ranked 79th with a market cap of around $78 million. The 50th coin has a cap of $130 million. So STEEM would have to increase by 2/3rds to get there, a price of around $0.37 compared to $0.22 currently.

I'm interested in the opinions of the STEEM Leo tribe, do you think STEEM can ever get back into the top 50? Does it matter with all these other tokens and layer 2 solutions on offer?

  • Yes, STEEM will be back bigger and better than ever.

  • Yes, HF21 and then HF22 (SMT's) will turn things around

  • Only if a killer DApp takes off and drags STEEM along

  • No, but it will stay healthy and keep providing opportunities

  • No, not likely.

  • No chance, its headed out of the top 100.

  • Who cares, I'll trade it whatever the price.

Answer the question at dpoll.xyz.

I see it going back to at least .50 like it was 4 months ago, but only if the confidence in bitcoin and altcoins returns.

It seems BTC is still king, by a long way. Still hard to watch STEEM under-performing even compared to other Alts.

I think Splinterlands or Actifit are the best prospects at present. One of these tribes taking off could do the job also.

I definitely like these two. But as with all things on Steem, we need to get more users from outside the blockchain and also those who are completely not even into crypto. Both of them have the power to do that.

To be honest, I don't know. Who knows?
Maybe we just wish, but I am trying to remain positive.
Maybe Steem will really get back into the top 50 by market cap either by HF21 and/or HF22, or by a killer dApp. Or by all of them together.
"So STEEM would have to increase by 2/3rds to get there, a price of around $0.37 compared to $0.22 currently."
If a price of $0.37 USD is what it takes to get back to the top 50, then Steem will certainly/definitely get back to the top 50 one day. Maybe not soon, but one day.
This is all depending on the community.
Many users left (and still leaving) the Steem blockchain because of the low price of the Steem.
This will probably push the price of the Steem more down.
To be honest, I understand them on some level.
The upvote values and the rewards are really dropped with the decreased/decreasing price of the Steem.
Nowadays I have to promote my Steem blog posts (buy upvotes) in some cases, because the pending payout amount would not reach the payout threshold ($0.02).

Thanks for the detailed comments. The $0.37 price was a hypothetical only, and I'm sure if STEEM starts moving, it will be part of a general Alt coin turnaround, meaning STEEM has to move much faster than others to get back to top 50. It will be interesting to see in a couple more years how many of the early Steemians are still around.

Do you think any of the current crop will do the job, or is it something yet to come?

If it does rise again, those here stacking through this bear market will be in good shape.

Nice, do you think it will hold above $0.20?

I think it will dip below 20 and I’ll pick up as much as I can and then it will hold there for a who knows how long!

I think steem still needs a break out use case, a dapp that really gets eye balls saying wow

I read an interesting post earlier about how we can stop the price bleed by just having 5000 steemians pick up 240 steem which isn't much really, its a pretty achievable goal. I'm not too fussed on the price at all, I think that I am happy collecting stake at this rate long with second layer stakes.

I do think with SMT we can make staking steem a more attractive option and that we can see a price increase. I think that the project is ambitious and that we shouldn't concentrate on the coin value but the amount of development and activity on the chain as an indicator of growth.

There is most definitely lots of development going on. The layer two options have livened things up, and I think we are getting closer to a proper turnaround and growth in users.

I'll try to buy 240 STEEM over the next couple of weeks, that's a nice goal and if everyone did similar, it could make a difference.

If it goes below 20 I’ll join you in picking up 250 to do my duty! May pick up a bit more depending on when it happens!

I would like to prepare once SMTs come, we may see steem become a lot more scarce and these prices could be ones you never see again

It will be interesting to see if a day comes where a DApp built on STEEm is worth more than STEEM itself. Definitely possible.

It's definitely possible, but it requires the right succession of events, and of course the right pop-up of awesome dapps!

Sometimes timing is everything. A couple of positive events and announcements, coming during an alt-coin rally could cause a big spike.

Hopefully these HF's go smoother than the last one. I think SMT's will be key.

Of course, it is possible... the question is: Is it probable? Important?

That's a small but really important distinction - and an entirely different question. Anything is possible, but likely or probable is a different story.
