ADSactly Fiction: The Character Of Sofia

The Character of Sofia

Since I arrived on a trip two months ago, Sofia had been behaving strangely. The first day back Sofia brought home the body of a quail, which she put on my pillow. The first impression I had was that of terror, in fact I think I screamed when I saw the little bird in the middle of the white cloth. At that moment I saw Sophie's bright eyes, which challenged me in a cold and then despicable way.

The quail was the first victim, because on the second day she brought a multicolored parrot that she left in the middle of the room. I remember looking at the computer when I felt Sofia's stealth behind the curtains, then under the table, above the old shelf. I stopped to see what he was doing when he suddenly pulled the inert body of the bird out of one of the furniture. This time I tried to scold and punish her, but Sofia was faster and jumped to the top of a cabinet. From there, she wagged her tail slowly, her gaze fixed and accusing in front of me. After these two birds, he brought several toads, lizards, squirrels, and always left the corpses in visible places and almost always in front of my eyes.

My return had been terrible because always coming back from family home was traumatic for me. Generally I didn't want to leave home, or see friends or neighbors, spend hours sleeping, eating, surviving. Returning home and finding myself alone with Sophie made me fall into a feeling of nostalgia and even depression, so Sophie's actions were already bothering and unsettling me. At first I thought it could be normal cat behavior, but I checked the internet and read that the kittens discarded any evidence of their crimes: 30% of what they killed was eaten, 49% was left dead where it fell, and only a quarter of what they killed was taken home. In other words, Sofia was acting abnormally to her nature.

Although Sofia acted most of the time like a normal cat, she slept, purred, shed hairs everywhere as always, was having a ruthless and suicidal behavior. Not only with other animals in her environment, but with herself. She had discovered it crossing the street just as the cars were speeding through the streets or jumping from great and deadly heights, arriving home then all battered and dirty. She always looked at me in a defiant, perverse, snub manner. I only chose to scold her and not to caress her, so it assumes an offended cat attitude.

Sofia is a cat that came to my house after one of those trips I make to visit my family. She arrived in January, hungry and since that day she has been my only companion in the house. I always fought with her because she scratched the furniture, the carpet even got into the closet and cluttered all the clothes. Once I got furious and took her out of the house, but she managed to get in through one of the windows and went to my room. There she began to purr and in that sound I felt that she was asking for forgiveness. That's the way it always was: I would do something bad and then come purring between my feet or my arms, but not now. Now Sofia makes a mess and looks at me in a challenging and insulting way, almost with a mocking grin on her feline face.

Yesterday, I decided to leave home and take Sofia to the vet, but basically my cat's vet told me (after I gave her a thousand complaints about Sofia's character) that animals look like their owners and that I was just my cat's maid. I'd better accept it, said. As the specialist said these words, I saw Sofia's hairy face and there were her bright eyes, her sharp fangs and a grimace of mockery and disdain. At that moment I realized that in my and Sofia's coexistence, I was the mascot of the relationship.

Liked the story... I think Cats generally think of us as their pets rather than the other way around. Are the images you used are of the same Cat?

No. They're different cats. I'm glad you liked it. Greetings

Ha! Cats have that kind of power. They can be so bossy and indiferent it makes you feel you need them and not the other way around. Never mind they come home beaten and starving after their parrandas and we have to find ways to heal them back to their usual selfish arrogant selves.
My cat has never broght me a "toy" for me to play with, and he does not like to play; he just brings me his injuries for me to heal. I'm technically his nurse or vet :)
I guess that's an upgrade :)

I have to admit that cats are not of my favorite animals and that they scare me a lot. I think by writing about them I exorcise my fears. : D. Greetings, @hlezama

I liked that fictional story about cat behavior, and that it is called Sofia especially, because, without any doubt, cats are among the most intelligent animals and we can learn a lot from them.
Often the owners of the pets end up being people dependent on them. Perhaps it is a relationship that goes beyond that of human and animal, and also occurs between humans.
Nice pictures of cats! Thanks for your post, @nancybriti.

One must come to understandings with ones cats. One must assign superiority to the cat for instance, because it is true - they are much smarter than we are. It helps to just give the cat what it wants, then it will be playful and tender, even cooperative at times.
I hope your protagonist learns how to live with the cat, because living with a provocative cat is no fun.
I love cats, all cats, even cats that bite me and I have to get rabies shots. I'm hopeless that way.
I liked your story, but I felt pain for both the characters.

Cats tend to be particularly pretentious and proud. Personally, I prefer dogs. ;) Greetings

Yes. It's true what you denounce, @sacra97. Many animals on the streets going hungry and hardship. It's sad.

@nancybriti, Cats are cute creatures but at the same time they can reflect as Annoying too. 😁😁

Have a wonderful time ahead and stay blessed.
