Card Basics - Tips for newbies in Splinterlands

(Edited)

I am a newcomer in the land of Splinterlands. I was very confused at first and did not know how to play the game at first. It took me several days and two seasons to understand which card should be used in which place. So, let me get down to explain the basics if you are a newcomer through the words of one like you.

Card levels

You must have noticed that the cards have numbers on it.

The above is a summoner card. The number on the top is the Mana and the number along with the star symbol and the name is the level that is indicated. So, the number 1 indicates that this is a level 1 card and therefore cannot be used to select monsters of a higher level.

This means that you have to either purchase a high-level card and combine it with the same such as yours otherwise it will take a long time to level up and it will prevent you from progressing to higher leagues.

The fact is that many of the days you complete quests and earn reward cards, you will get a high-level card probably. When selecting a monster for the battle, the card of higher level will not be able to be utilized properly because your summoner is of low level. I hope you get me.

Another thing to note is that you should explore the card section of your account and determine how many 'OWNED' cards you have including summoners. In case you do not have any 'owned' summoners, please go and purchase it. Buying is better than renting but it depends on how much you would like to invest in the game.

If you have an idea of how to play the game and really like it so much that you are talking about it to other people and are not bored within a few days, I would suggest you purchase some good cards including high-level summoners.

Notice the number beside the star has been raised to two after combining two of the same cards

Today's tips

  • Try to acquire more of neutral and dragon cards
  • Low mana cards are a blessing
  • Purchasing alchemy potions will get you gold foil cards and it's not costly

As you progress towards higher leagues, you will notice the rules become harder and more complicated but do not lose hope if you fail. Study the battles and notice what cards the opponent used and you will be able to acquire knowledge on how these cards are used and when it should be used and so on.

I agree with you on all points. Would like to add the starter set for $10 USD allows players to use all splinters as it has level 1 of each splinter. Drawback is players with starter set do not own the cards so can not resell. Upside is they got to use all splinters and able to participate in daily quests and tournaments to earn more and buy cards with those earnings. Thanks!

Yes, true but I did realize that I cannot use the summoners for high level cards later on. Thanks for pointing it out

Hm... I have not tried alchemy potions yet. Maybe I might want to try that later.

Is the potion a one time use?
