Can Earth Deck overthrow Water Deck in this new Meta Part 2: The Synergy

avatar

This is the continuation of my last post (it took some time) and the focus this time will be on the less known/used monsters that can synergize well with Obsidian, Queen Mycelia and Mycelic Slipswpawn
Silver First Quest4.png

Djinn Biljka

Djinn Biljka_lv1.png

The least popular Chaos Legion Reward card will find its place in the current Meta shift being a magic damage dealer and having protection from Mycelic Taunt, Queen Mycelia Protect and its own camouflage

  • Pros
    • Camouflage: can't be targeted unless it's on the first postion and doesn't require careful placement (of course not in the second position)
    • 3 Mana Cost: Perfect for low mana battles, providing 1+1 Magic damage!
    • A chance of getting it for free by doing Daily Quest
  • Cons
    • Weak stats: low health and low speed, we can't ask more for a 3 mana card
    • Needs to be at least at level 3 to get decent stats and Weaken

Scavo Hireling

Scavo Hireling_lv1.png

Don't get mistaken by this cute creature, it can make your life a nightmare in a never-ending circle.
Won't go through the pros and cons since it's all about the synergy:
Slipspawn as a tank with taunt + Goblin Psychic Tank Heal + Queen Mycelia providing Protect + Scavo Hireling with Repair, each round Slipspawn get healed and get its armor back from Protect + Repair: This is huge! Absorbing a heavy hit from a fast melee/ranged opponent will make that enemy monster kind of useless and keeps The tank Alive much as possible while dealing tons of magic damage.
If Scavo got magic damage, it'll be broken with Obisidian!

Doctor Blight

Doctor Blight_lv1.png

The subject of all the hype and FOMO for the first Chaos legion pre-sale round and it got even better after swapping Slow for Camouflage.
Doctor Blight is a better version of Djinn Biljka for an additional mana cost and the higher its level the better and Solid it becomes (5 Abilities at level 4)

  • Pros:
    • Magic damage: Profits from Obsidian +1 buff and no risk of missing
    • Camouflage
    • Affliction: Great to stop Lama/Kron Rampage, Life comp with double heal, mirror matchups, Haunted Spirit etc...
    • Neutral Card can be used in 95% of your battles
    • Low mana cost perfect for low mana battles
  • Cons:
    • Needs to be leveled up to unlock the full potential of Dr Blight.

Spirit Druid Grog

Spirit Druid Grog_lv1.png

A not-so-popular legendary card, but its ability Resurrect can synergize well with this composition:
After Slipswapn death, it gets resurrected with 1 Health and 2 Armor from Mycelia Protect, if we're lucky enough, it can get healed by Goblin psychic to make it survive a bit longer after the resurrection.
Spirit Druid got 2 magic + 1 magic buff can deal serious damage but 1 health and 1 speed make it a mediocre choice compared to many monsters that can do a better job.

It was enjoyable brainstorming about the different synergies between the Chaos legion monsters and the older editions, moreover, the higher the league, the more abilities get unlocked and probably better synergies can be made!

I haven't played Bronze/Silver after the changes, but this seems pretty dope. It's nice to have a change of meta in the lower part where everybody pretty much plays with the exact same strategies and stuff. Seems like I'll have a good time next season.

I do feel at lower meta that one or two comps are dominating while I feel in higher leagues it's somehow balanced but Chaos legion cards aren't finding their place among the older cards.

Spirit Druid Grog to resurrect and Goblin Psychic to heal. This would seem to be a great combination. Does Spirit Druid Grog resurrect only himself or can he resurrect other monsters?

Resurrect works on the first monster that gets killed. That's why there is always a little blurb during the game to not waste your resurrect on the Furious Chicken.....

That is cool. Splinterlands is different in this aspect as the game never stagnates it just keeps getting more interesting and just when we start getting really comfortable with our decks they release new boosters 😀

Because Mycelic Slipspawn has taunt, it'll most likely be the first to die, so spirit Druid will resurect it and will have the + 2 Armor from Queen Mycelia, making it possible to tank a few more shots! (Sorry for the late reply)

No need to apologize for such an awesome reply. That is a great combination. 😀

Magic strats have been some of the most consistent and powerful in my experience. Thank you for sharing some thoughts on the new meta, i wanna try these cards

Magic is too powerful and there is not too much to counter it!
I'm glad I could help, it's fun brainstorming about the new possible compinations after the release of Chaos legion.

Doctor blight is a G I love this guy wish I got to use him with the scavenge even though I only have a level one lol but when he gets that ability the stuff he can do is nutty.

Dr Blight is an Alpha and you're right, Decent at level 1 but becomes a monster at level 4 and many Gold-Diamond players are playing it.
In addition to Scavenger, Affliction and Poison are a nightmare for enemy team!

This is a though provoking post on the evolving new CL meta. Please keep them coming.

I am curious about your opinion on using magic earth attack to counter Zaku based ranged attack game.

I reckon this might be tricky at the lower levels due to the lack of a Triage to counter the blast damage. Khmer Princess only gets it at lvl 8 and Queen Mycelia gets it at lvl 3.

Speed is still the most effective way to counter Zaku, and most of the fast Earth cards are Ranged, so will not benefit from Obsidian's +1 Magic.

Maybe at higher levels, the following line-up might work : Mycelic Slipswpawn, Centauri Mage, Regal Peryton, Queen Mycelia, Khmer Princess and Goblin Psychic.

You have a full CL deck, what has worked for you in Champs?

Agree with you bro. It's hard to survive the first barrage of damage from Yodin's army without losing too much, so attacking first is always a great strategy. If you actually come up with something that survives the first barrage of damage AND can kill some monsters in the back, that should probably do it, but at lower leagues it's kind of tough.

It's a great pleasure receiving positive feedback from a Champion player! Thanks a lot for passing by and I hope you'll my opinion will be helpful:
We expect a Zaku with ranged attacks and no magic with all my monsters pick at level 1:

  • Mycelic Slipspawn will get destroyed so I won't pick it
  • 1st position: Mycelic Infantry since he got shield (gets reduced damage)
  • 2nd Centauri Mage: it'll return fire from Snipe monsters as well as from the blast damage when enemy hits the tank
  • Queen Mycelia: Having extra Armor will especially help Centauri mage stay alive longer
  • Scavo Hireling: with Repair it keeps reparing the armor of Mycelic Infrantry or Centauri Mage

I do believe these 4 monsters are good enough to put a fight against yodin, If mana cap isn't yet reached, adding Goblin Psychic and Doctor blight might help a lot.

That is an interesting composition, but that's at least 25 mana. It can work, but Mycelic Slipspawn has 1 speed so you can't count on his damage very much, and almost all your damage comes from Return Fire. Don't know how much this would work, but to be honest Yodin Zaku has not many counters in lower leagues, the guy is just a freaking monster.

Sadly, Yodin gets a free pass in almost all battles in most battles, Silver League and below. When climbing up from Silver League, I still sometimes lose to a Lvl 1 Yodin with Lvl 2 monster cards even though I have am using Lvl 4+ Summoners & monsters.
It gets easier once you are in Gold League with the higher lvl cards....

I've had a chance against Zaku by playing Lir deepswimmer with Sea Monster and crustacean king + Axemaster for the damage, really works if yodin is level 1.

You're right Mycelic Slipspawn will get killed even before launching its attack! Sadly we only have Centauri Mage with Return Fire and I really want to try this composition to see if it works or not (as you said we need a 25+ mana ruleset)
Zaku is too OP in bronze/silver.
