Card Impressions: To The Depths With You

Greetings hiveans and welcome to another card discussion post. This week we will be taking a look at the Kulu Swimhunter (a card that offers good core statistics). In fact, all it offers is it's good core stats because it has NO ABILITIES. This card has excellent stats for any lvl, but because it doesn't offer any abilities usually another 4 cost card will be used instead. This does not mean this card is bad just generic and can be used to build many good lineups. However, this card will be a jack of all trades in Modern for the upcoming Wild/Modern division where a lot of previously used staples won't be available in both formats.

Strategy and Placement: Ranged in Back

In my battle located here I place Kulu Swimhunter at the back of the lineup, which makes sense in this and most rulesets. In this particular battle the "Back to basics" ruleset is present along with "Enrage", this means that all cards gain speed and melee damage when at less than full health.

image.png

This fight is a rather simplistic engagement. Oceanus is a good choice in the "Enrage" ruleset, because his resulting high speed makes him notoriously difficult to dodge (8 speed AFTER enrage). In this fight (like many "back to basics" fights), this came down to having more damage per turn AND a greater overall hp.

image.png

Oceanus and his enrage is for naught, as the one attack he COULD dodge hits him dead center and takes him down. Additionally, the placement of the ranged pealacor arbalest in front of another magic character resulted in less damage per turn in the final rounds as it moved to first position.

image.png

As you can see the enemy is steadily bombarded by magic (and our trusty Kulu Swimhunter), and we emerge victorious in this engagement purely from the combination of superior damage/ greater health. A match in which we really did go "back to basics", this match is also a good representation of the common strategies in this ruleset combination (magic damage being able to attack from any position being a very key part of "back to basics" strategy in the majority of situations).

Talking Tidbits: Kulu Swimhunter

Kulu Swimhunter is mot particularly special as far as synergy or strategic implementation, but this card fits a more general spot in our collections. It must be considered that many of the staple ranged cards that would be used in it's stead ARE NOT present in modern. It is likely this card will be a water splinter ranged damage standard for the modern format.

The lore of this card is rather basic, they are adept thrown weapon hunters of the underwater squid people "Kulu". They hunt for glory, carnage, and food. Aside from that the lore is rather vague and incomplete, perhaps we will see more "Kulu" in the future to expand our understanding of this new race of creature to appear in #Splinterlands

Thanks for sharing! - @lenonmc21

Your content is genuine, I like the way you write, however, cross posting very constantly is considered SPAM, please don't do it, this could bring negative things to your account. Decide in which community to set your content.

Big thanks for this @lenonmc21 , haven't been able to get a straight answer about if cross posting is bad. A lot of people have told me "It's not bad if the communities being cross posted to are actually relevant and tagged to the post". But if crossposting is considered spam. In what case is cross posting ok? A tutorial about these sort of less obvious social aspects of hive that aren't really publicly mentioned in the readily available tutorials and would be super helpful, if such a tutorial exists I haven't found it yet (and if you could link some helpful media to enlighten me in my ignorance I and those reading this post and comment would appreciate it).

It wasn't crossposted with the intent to spam, just to have the content be seen in it's relevant and tagged communities. As communities cross posted to are relevant to gaming and might not necessarily have a front end in each case (only cross posted to tagged communities too, I really really am not trying to spam people). It was merely to have more people see the write up and to actually have it appear for them in said tagged communties. I will not crosst post in the future, and appreciate the comment. And I would appreciate additional info aswell. I would like to avoid being considered spam, thanks for the tip. I've heard a lot of conflicting things about cross posting all over hive so it's good to get a message from the curation team to know where the stance is. Some follow up info would be great as cross posting on hive is quite confusing, honestly. Thank you.
