The Chaos Legion Public Sale has everyone a bit rattled! Here is how you can protect yourself from getting burnt 🔥
In a little under three days the Chaos Legion public sale will commence, meaning anyone will be able to buy Chaos Legion packs using Credits. The following article details the simple strategy I am using to hedge against card price movements, up or down!
⬆️ Many #Splinterlands players are worried because the price of cards has dropped around 40% since the Pre-sale tickets went live and 1.76 million CL packs have been sold. With around 9 millions CL cards flooding the market we have seen card prices steadily dropping across the board on all Splinterlands Series : Alpha, Beta, Promo, Untamed, Reward, CL
By why have other card prices dropped?
With the new CL Series release a LOT of brand new cards & abilities have become available; cards that compete with the previous best combinations as cheap new cards and summoners provide competition against those older tried and tested combinations.
⬆️ Since the CL release, it is a lot cheaper to build a competitive Splinterlands deck.
We have also seen a hefty Bitcoin and cryptocurrency correction over the last few weeks so the crypto industry as a whole has suffered. This is definitely affecting the value of cards (leading to a decrease in overall deck values).
⬆️$Hive has bounced off a a low of $1.26 - Splinterlands card values tend to follow Hive as the game is built on the #Hivechain
Here is my Chaos Legion plan:
Sell off Extra Gold Cards and high Value normal Cards and start hoarding $DEC (if you want BP) or sell for Game Credits if you prefer a stable-coin. NOTE: While the $DEC value has been decreasing, we are at a pretty low level now and it should be a 'safe hold' for a month. The $DEC value may even increase?!
Wait for the Chaos Legion Public sale to start in 3 day's time and monitor the price of cards. I will not make any big moves for at least 2 weeks after the public sale launches, while I monitor the market with players like @synist3r @BesFriend @ultm8x @jbtc19warrior and @xlordfifth. I may only buy 1 month after the public sale goes live.
If Card prices drop significantly I will look at buying as many cards up as I can especially Summoners (Obsidian) , Neutral Cards (Sandworm) as well as cheaper CL and Rewards cards for levelling purposes.
If the flood of new players and/or a booming Bitcoin causes card prices to go up, then my $DEC can be traded for Credits and used to buy Chaos Legion Packs, in hopes of getting those Gold Legendary card pulls!
In a nutshell, I will make sure I have liquid crypto ready to go and wait a few weeks (after the Chaos Legion Public Sale goes live) before making any large or bulk purchases. Either CL Packs ⚔️ or cheap cards 🎴

Is it worth buying Splinterlands Cards now?
I have only been buying cards for "levelling up" purposes, but even those purchases I have stopped for now. I want my main base to be competitive so it is important to keep levelling up cards when they are cheap, but if the prices drop significantly then I will be able to level up those same Monsters and Summoners for a lot cheaper!
I do need to maintain my BP (to stay in Gold League) so can't sell off too many Gold Foil Cards or Legendaries. Around 90% of my Splinterlands deck will remain untouched, but a percentage will be sold as I "take profits" and prepare myself for some big price movements in the game.

Thats a good plan and analysis Jim. DEC is at a pretty low level. Ive sold some extra cards i had just to get as much DEC as possible to hold onto. Good point about new, cheap decks to compete. Listing (not market) value on some cards is holding pretty well actually.
Thanks @captainquack22. Yeah it's a bit tough to sell high value cards right now. Other people on the market are doing the same and you get undercut very quickly. At least by selling for DEC I am able to maintain CP so can still make Gold League! Are you planning on buying packs or cards or Both?
Ive been aping for past few months. I have a pile of cards im sitting on. I work like a robot, spend like a banshee. Trying to slow down. Grind battles, stack DEC, rent a bit. All things considered, the stake apr, and airdrop will make back a bit of money back over the next 200 days. Im chillin anyways, enjoying playing for now.

It'll be interesting to see how the market 'deals' as the Chaos Legion packs become more widely available. Thank you for sharing your strategy I think you have a good idea.
Hey, thanks for the reblog on my post. I, too, think that prices will come down some once the packs start getting distributed. BUT, as I said in my article, I'm not sure how much. It will be interesting to see how many of the "block" purchases there are. The $100k-$1M ones. Those, I think, could bring in a ton of new users. If that's the case, there will be lots of new buyers without much frame of reference for prices. Whereas those of us who've been around awhile may realize a 6 cent coin will probably go to 4 cents, they might just see 6 cents as really cheap already and buy them up. That said, there are going to be literally millions of these cards available so simple supply and demand would seem to dictate prices have to come down some at least. Who knows where the bottom will be. A lot will probably depend on how fast the packs sell out.
As far as selling your cards...I think that's a sound strategy. Unfortunately, I've got all my cards locked, for better or for worse, so that's not an option for me. I did it for two reasons. One, security-I'm not too worried about it but you never know. I now have a big enough deck that it's worth protecting. And two, I think I'm going to want every single card I possibly can when land comes out so this keeps me from selling them.
I'm definitely going to buy some packs. I've only bought 177 so far and I'd like to get up around 500 so I give myself good odds to get the promo airdrops. But I'm definitely keeping a good chunk liquid so I can at least take my CL deck to full Gold Level.
Whatever happens, it's certainly going to be interesting.

@dagger212 Thanks for the supportive words 🚀 Yeah I will be buying packs, even just to HODL. Untamed packs are selling for over $50 now, around 9 months after they sold out.
@dynamicrypto was telling me he thinks the packs will sell out on day 1! So I'll be watching the CL Splinterlands public sale very closely! If demand is super high then I assume the market will be flooded with cheap cards (buys). Also, CL packs will increase in value quickly if they are sold out in the first few days!
The @splinterlands public sale looks good from all angles actually, but I'm still nervous 😂
