Business Simplification based on a "Blain Jones"-ism

I want to peel back the covers a bit on the quality of mentorship we receive in the CTP Inner Circle group. We have access in our group to several quite knowledgeable folks who discuss business ideas.

Recently the following was said in our Telegram chat:

If the finish line isn't defined, what are we running towards?
-Blain Jones

Blain's one of the owners\developers of #CTP, List Nerds, and several other online business models.

That's good advice. Let's see what happens when I act on it.

Plan in reverse - Start with the Finish line. Work in reverse

Since I am scattered thinking-wise for the last couple years since my TBI, and am now starting to address some of my cognitive issues, I write things down.

All the time. I may not act on them, but I write continuously. Otherwise I forget.

My problem is that I have loads of content I've written and never published, and because of how I think and my processing now, I seem to always have several irons in the fire.

That being the case, I can definitely agree with Blain. I do better when I slow down, focus on one item, and plan.

Therefore I decided to simplify everything down and spend time focusing on one portion of my online business. After all, focus is Follow One Course Until Success.

I already do this at work, since we have a runbook with lots of processes that I edit and write on daily.

Yet with my personal online business efforts, I am all over the map. Alright, let's shed some ideas and put some stuff on pause and narrow the focus to one thing.

dadjokesnmemes.com - My dad joke site Isn't monetized, but I have 9.9K Facebook Followers for my dad jokes page on their platform I can leverage.

3Steps.Today
This started because of the 30 days no excuses challenge that occured several months back.

I wrote an email autoresponder with the steps of the challenge and links to resources for each day. I bought the domain, and put up a wordpress blog, and created some lead capture pages.

This became my primary funnel for emails to promote

  • CTP,
  • List Nerds,
  • Plus 1 Success

Each day was 3 steps (3 sites) one with each of the three platforms listed. I didn't create the idea. Jon O. did. :) I just turned it into my autoresponder series and used the 3 platforms and steps as a way to generate people to come sign up for my e-course 30-day series of 3 steps.

3Steps.Today URL would work well as a general site about taking 3 steps each day and encouraging people to do so. That's REALLY what I want.

3 steps: Plan, Act, Evaluate.

FreeAds.Club
I bought this domain, and I lease an adboard for a pittance each month and send paid traffic to it. I make the cost back of the site lease and my paid traffic cost due to affiliate sales from the emails sent to advertisers weekly and the upgrades on ads. This one makes a small profit. Small.

However, I don't currently do much with this either. I could definitely see me working this into something special, by posting all upgraded ads on Hive, and giving that as a bonus.

There's lots I can do with this one. No matter what, I am keeping this one going on the back burner until I have time to make it shine. It pays for itself, so why not.

Splinterlands cards #spt
I own several cards, and only a couple of worthwhile ones. I rent some out, but never play.

This one I am passing on for now. I can monitor the card rentals just to keep things moving, but I will work on this later. Valid ideas., but later.

My Choice? 3Steps.Today

Months ago at the start I thoroughly enjoyed interacting with people about the 3 steps we were all taking as part of the challenge. I would write about CTP, List Nerds, and +1 Success.

Easy. Why?

Because I use all those tools and like and support them all.

However much I enjoy those folks and those platforms (and I still use ALL of them), I have such a great opportunity before me...

...to create something of my own. I still have those 3 tools\sites as part of my backend funnel, but they don't have to be front and center for 3Steps.Today.

Instead, the goal is 3 Steps: Plan, Act, Evaluate.

Instead of limiting my promotional efforts to 3 tools I use, instead I can create my own tool\site with my 3 steps (PlanActEval) for myself and others, something I have been working on at work for a while.

I use this technique at my day job as a quick way (along with my trello board, Miro, pomodoro time-boxing techniques, etc.) to churn through a lot of to do items quickly.

Sure, I did the 30 days no excuses and made the 3Steps site for it, Now however I'd like to pivot the site. I want it to be more focused on the content needed to help myself and others take 3 steps a day. I need to be consistent at something long-term to get the results I want.

Now that I know WHICH part of the my online efforts to focus on, I worked with the end in mind, and broke down the steps needed to get to the end goal:

Great Content (Value) to Paid Subscribers on How To Win by Taking 3 Steps Daily.

I wrote quite a bit more, but I think I will save it for another post.

Thanks for reading!

If you read my ramblings above and would like to see me take 3Steps.Today to a new level, I'd love it if you'd sign up for my free 30 day email course on taking 3 Steps to improve yourself.

Peace and Love,

-Rob

This post is a real Triumph. Your writing style is very clear.
You have some internet properties with great earning potential.
Splinterlands cards are a great investment. Any cards you are not renting out, if you delegate them to me I will split all of the earnings I make with those cards :-)

Awww shucks. Thanks for the kind words.

We can talk about the SL cards. I only have a few low-level ones, but we can go over what I have. It's all on the blockchain, after all. :)

What a great evaluation of your business. I also was very impressed with what Blain said.
I am doing the same thing and focusing on my funnels. I liked the way you weighed out your priorities. I have found that having to many irons in the fire is too much, focusing on 1 thing at first is really the only way to go in my opinion.
Keep up the great work
Tom

Thanks! I have several items that I am just hitting pause on until I get this part nailed down and turned into a well-oiled machine.

There's a difference between list segmentation, etc. and just trying to do too much at once.

Oh, and yeah, the CTP Inner Circle chat is tremendous. I get busy at work, but I have been reading through the last while's archive of chat to glean what I can.

Plan. Act. Evaluate. Sounds like a sensible strategy. I have chosen to focus on getting to 5000 HP with my @lisamgentile1961 account and building up my HE-Index holdings as well. I do one post a week which I know isn't enough. Glad to see you back around here again. If I could pay for help I would pay someone to write for me.

Re: Plan, Act, Eval, I use a version of that at work as a quick way to get through small projects. When I do this in tandem with other people at work I use Trello and a system of moving our different tasks to different columns\status to track stuff. It works.

Good luck reaching those goals!

You're not the first person on here looking for a writer. Someone said the same thing to me recently on Telegram. (That's a hint for any writers out there.) #freewrite

it's not easy to handle all that life throws at you, but still, Planning, Acting, Evaluating. dose help get the most of the work done. I will apply this to my current plans, thanks for the post.

It’s really easy to get a bit over zealous and want to try so many new online businesses. Trust me, I started 4 blockchain based businesses in a year and a half. But yeah the problem comes from managing the time it takes to work on all of them.

That has been part of my goal is to focus a specific part of my day on a specific project. Not looking at anything else during that time. This has helped me compartmentalize my thoughts and helps me at least touch all the businesses during the day. Sometimes it doesn’t always work out, but it’s all in keeping yourself accountable.

And then sometimes, you need to ride your winners and cut your losers. I actually started about 12 sites in the last year and a half, down to 4, lol.

@hivehistlers - 100%! Amen brother.
I have started a piece of content on this, and hope to have it done soon. I'll tag you when I post it. :)
Re: being "over zealous" -This is something that I believe many of us online face - we over-extend ourselves. I have started focusing on one portion (3steps.today), and the rest of my projects are on back burner, unless working on one of them is fuel for content creation for the 3Steps content. IE: work on my free ads site, but only in the context of documenting it as a blog post in 3 steps showing how I use my 3 steps process to get stuff done.
