My Background for Chirpily | Fan Art

Since the Holozing team announced the New Holo to capture I was delighted with them, especially with the evolution of Chirple, Chirpily, this bird has many features that I liked and I was thinking until today what fan art to do. I was undecided on how to make a drawing so in the end I decided to create a background for him. Since the previous contest I really liked the dynamic of making backgrounds for the creatures, so I went that way and made this beautiful landscape as a fan art of Chirpily. I hope you like it.

Artwork Steps

Being a flying creature I had to make a background according to it, so I went to the internet to look for inspiration, this process took me some time because I had several ideas in mind, but doing it was fruitful because I could clarify the way I was going to design. In my case I worked with Adobe Photoshop brushes because I don't have a graphic tablet, it was a laborious process but the result was undoubtedly satisfactory.

The image that shed me more light was this one of Pidgeot, I intended to make a mountainous landscape with trees and that had some perspective, that way I could give it a better finish, so with my mind already clear I began the artistic process.

Initially I started to create bushes, as the image is perspective type I had to start from the front to the back to create that effect.

Then I decided to place a black background to be able to trace better with the brushes, that way I could see the details more clearly. One of the advantages of working in Photoshop is that you can work with layers, that way I can go back and forth until I get the desired result. The first thing I did after the bushes was to create the mountains. I placed them on the top and that way I could create the perspective I wanted.

Once I had the mountains ready I started to fill the remaining space, for this I created smaller bushes to denote distance, the farther away the smaller they should be seen, that way the landscape is in a correct perspective. I also made some stones near the mountains.

At this point my landscape was almost ready but some details were missing, so I made some cactus in the mountainous area, added clouds and also made some fog spheres to complete it.

The coloring process was the one that gave me the most work, the advantage of Photoshop and working with layers is that you can also work with opacities, so it is easier to find the right tonality. After painting that's what I did until I got the desired result.

As for the ground I was a bit confused, I tried with several colors but none of them I liked, so I left it black, but I added more details so it didn't look so hollow. With the black ground I could only paint a night sky, imagine painting during the day with the ground like this, it wouldn't look good. But with the night sky everything fit perfectly. I also enhanced some details of the mountains and continued playing with the tonalities, finally I made some details in the composition to obtain the almost definitive background because I was missing the shadow of Chirpily and with that I would be completely finished.
