SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! CAVE SLUGS

Hi guys! I'll be sharing with you guys a battle I did using this week's theme: Cave Slugs

Battle Details

The rules for the match were Target Practice and Odd Ones Out, here is what the rules mean:

image.png

Target Practice: All ranged and magic attack monsters have the Snipe Ability (they will target monsters with ranged, magic or no attack that are not in the first position)

Odd Ones Out: Only monsters with odd mana costs may be used.

Here is the list of Summoner/Monsters I used:

Summoner : Lorna Shine

Ability: All friendly Monsters receive divine shield at the start of the battle

I used her as I wanted to let my team live longer, to let my backline deal more damage

Silvershield Paladin

Ability: Shield
Reduce damage from melee and ranged attacks

Good tank to use, high health and has shield, which can tank 1 hit regardless of the damage(with the exception of magic which passes through shield). Also reduces damage from meelee and ranged, which is very useful especially in this match.

Baby Unicorn

Ability: Strengthen
All friendly monsters have increased health

Good monster to boost the tankiness of your team overall, hopefully allowing them to outlive the enemy and win (which it did in this match :D). I placed this on the second position to function as a second tank in case Silvershield Paladin died

Cave Slug

Ability: Opportunity
May attack from any position, targets the monster with lowest health

Excellent choice to pick off the enemies backline and kill their damage dealers, following which we can kill the tank and win the game.

Cave Slug is my main damage dealer for this set up, everything else is to stall the enemy to buy time for cave slug to destroy the enemy damage dealers

Lone Boatman

Ability: Snipe
Target monsters with ranged, magic or no attack that are not in the first position

Additional damage, also has snipe due to the battle rules and can help pick off the enemies backline. Has shield, can tank a little in case of a sneak monster on the enemy side.

THE BATTLE

My opponent used more low mana cards and also opted for a stall tactic, with baby unicorn providing health and truthspeaker providing armor. He also had creeping ooze to slow me down.

In the beginning, my baby unicorn took all the hits from the enemies backline, while my tank remained unscathed by the enemy tank due to shield, negating his 1 attack completely. My lone boatman began chipping away at their baby unicorn while my cave slug targeted one of their damage dealers, the divine sorceress.

It wasn't long before my baby unicorn died, and the enemy monsters with snipe turned to target my lone boatman. Meanwhile, my cave slug managed to kill one of their only two damage dealers, and not long after, my lone boatman killed their baby unicorn.

Both my lone boatman and cave slug continued to damage their back lane, with lone boatman taking hits from the enemy. Eventually, my lone boatman died valiantly, but the enemy was only left with their tank - crystal werewolf, truthspeaker and their only damage dealer: highland archer.

Their highland archer moved on to target my tank after killing lone boatman, as cave slug was not ranged nor magic, both of which were targets of the snipe ability (as well as monsters with no attack).

With their monsters all targeting my tank, cave slug was able to pick them off one by one, while my tank shrugged off the attacks and taking no damage due to his shield ability.

My win was secured.

My key takeaway from this is how melee monsters with opportunity (such as cave slug) were not the targets of snipe monsters.
I also realised that snipe monsters will target monsters starting from your second monster and continue from there instead of targeting according to health ( My baby unicorn had 4 health and was in 2nd place while my boatman was in 4th place but had only 3 health)
I wasn't really familiar with the different abilities yet but i learnt a lot from this match.

Thats all for today, thanks for reading :)
