My Fomo Protection: Stick to my Goals

avatar

my fomo protection.jpg

I have been away for a couple of days. First I went to a Karate tournament with my daughter in Luxembourg and from there we travelled to Europapark in Germany where we spent two nights. It was enjoyable but the weather was fresh and wet, so that I caught a cold...

Before I left and while I was away, I still couldn't miss everything that was going on in the Splinterlands world. There was the Riftwatchers pre-sale, the Tower Defense pre-sale, the NFT's on Ethereum pre-sale and finally the Riftwatchers sale started... Just as a side notice, the next legendary summoner was airdroped during this time... Well there was definitely plenty of fomo potential.

Not enough to go into Riftwatchers

I was first hesitant. I wanted to go into Riftwatchers but finally I had to concede that I couldn't go into it at an interesting level. It was only worth it, if I could buy at least 100 packs and I didn't have enough money lying around to do that.

The land expansion also taught me not to invest into things that are not yet finished. For this reason, I skipped the Tower Defense pre-sale. Since I'm no friend of Ethereum, I also decided not to invest into the NFT... So what did I buy? Well I bought a total of 6 Riftwatchers packs and that's it... So boring...

Concentrating on what brings me closer to my goals

On a deeper base, I told myself that none of these pre-sales would bring me closer to my Hive Goals. The only way that my Splinterlands assets could help me to reach my goals, was to add the tokens that I receive in the game to Diesel pools and get more return. That's exactly what I did...

Instead of opening plenty of packs and living the dream of unpacking a Gold Foil Legendary card, I simply added some more to my diesel pool stakes. It's not exciting but I believe in the long run I will be grateful to myself that I kept my Hive and my HBD and continued on the road to reach my goals...

it's a great thing to be discipline and stick to your goals...i couldn't help it on RiftWatchers achim and i bought 55 packs on pre-sale...it was way beyond my defense mechanisms not to take part in the pre-sale
...i have to admit that i love all the RIFTWATCHERS cards....the art in these cards is incredible
i have no idea what the price of them will be in the long run but speaking as a collector i love to collect them
tower defense is another story....i also believe in the game and i like the thing that it is connected to the original game through staking the NFTs....i 'm really looking forward to experience the launch of it
i think they still haven't come up with a name for the game

When I look at these cards, I can't help to like how they look and also what they can do in the game. The problem is that in order for me to be playable, I need to upgrade these cards and it can become pretty expensive lol.

Reading this, I realized that many older players missed this point. Who bought up everything then? 😅

Haha, it seems that not everybody was thinking like me, on the contrary lol

lol I salute anyone that can, especially when it comes to Splinterlands stuff. I have way too much FOMO in this game lol

The fact that I was not around and didn't have all my keys with me certainly helped lol. It's really, really difficult to resist... Especially those Riftwatchers cards seem so cool...

The gamble....Bought 130 packs so far. Not a single GFL lol

If I bought that many packs they would be all open already... Buying packs is very dangerous for me lol.

I feel you there. I am also sticking with things that are already running where possible, so don't get involved in Tower Defense until it's live. The Runi could have been interesting though, but I don't like queues and rushing. lol

I did however buy a stack of RW cards which I've added to my deck and a few choice ones for rental.

You were not far from us in Europapark. I hope you had a good time despite the weather, its got chili quite quickly!

There are some really powerful cards in Riftwatchers but I will probably buy some selected ones, once I know which ones I lose against lol.

It was cold and rainy but the advantage was that we had almost no cues for the rollercoasters. My kids enjoyed a lot and I did some stuff that I hadn't done so far :-)

Not easy holding off against FOMO, couldn't pick up more than 4 packs myself. I think you did well sticking to your plan.

All the best

I have to admit that the Riftwatchers packs really look tempting but we simply can't go into everything. I will probably buy some selected cards instead of packs.

Yes, sticking to the goals is a good one. Well, sometimes FOMO and other things will keep in mind. Stay strong, nothing is the best excluding reaching your own hive goal. No regret 💪

In fact, I retired from Splinterlands because of that. 😅 I think it's kinda hard to keep in place to update the cards, upgrade, and do many things to reach the peak. Like if we want to go to the peak of Splinterlands, we will full all out to Splinterlands only.

You are not wrong. The Splinterlands ecosystem pulls you into its embrace and once you are comitted, it's very difficult to stay reasonable lol

I'm glad that I was at Hive Fest when all the hype was happening... I missed ALL stuff from the SL, TD, etc, and I really don't have the feeling that "I missed a lot"... Maybe regret will come later, but we will see...
So far so good! :)

It's definitely easier when you are not in front of your computer when this stuff all comes out lol.

"Forgive me father, for I have sinned..." I have to admit that I resisted the much I can the temptation, but in the first day I gave in in the FOMO and bought a bunch of GFs... Oh, what I have done!!!

In a way, it wasn't that bad. I got some good deals, and I think those cards are helping me to win. I wish they have been summoners, but I was too slow. On the other hand, I had to stop myself, because I didn't want to keep buying as if money had no end. I admit I wanted the Runi, but it was too expensive and at the end, I couldn't solve my aversion around ETH. I'm still working on it, though! But definitely, I stayed away of TD and buying RW packs. It feels good that I'm not alone in the same line of thinking! Thank you very much for sharing this. I really feel less lonely, but a little bit empty, for those unexpected buys. That's for sure. !PIZZA !PGM !CTP

I think that buying some selected cards is the best way to go. Like that you buy what will help you to improve your gameplay. That's my plan as well :-)

Interesting the number of comments of high level players that resisted the FOMO that has been running rampant lately. This is my first grouping where I could participate in much of the FOMO so only time will tell if I feel good about it in a couple of months. Got 154 packs but only opening as I get potions from chest.

I see the problem of high level players as follows: If we want to get the new cards, we don't need them once but up to 400 times so that they are fully developped and they can be used in our decks. The financial investement to reach such levels is pretty high and I believe this is the reason why many try to avoid buying too many packs :-)

Yes that makes good sense. I need 10 - 60 of most cards to reach Silver so getting that in packs is reasonable.

Great to hear that you did not go into FOMO Achim, slow and steady usually is the better strategy, enjoy your long term rewards and stay awesome.

It's always good to be able to hold on to our goals so that we don't invest in every shiny thing around :-)

Solid decisions and great fomo armor, staying the course and focusing on moving toward your goals.

It doesn't work all the time but when you see that Fomo'ing into things will take you away from your goals, it gives you a different perspective and this is often just what is needed to resist :-)

It's tough to manage sometimes but there will always be more opportunities in the future. So I don't think it's too much to worry about and you should just focus on what your goals actually are.

I agree, my experience with the game has shown that it's often better to wait a bit a buy stuff later, most of the time at a cheaper price...

Seems like we had the same approach and for the same reason, although you were kept from doing any major moves by your trip too. I only bought 20 TD packs for the time being.

The trip was definitely helpful to avoid all the Fomo lol. When I see how much HBD I would have needed to get RW cards at a high enough level, I simply prefered to keep to my goals :-)

Ah this is so true! Could totally agree with it. I have spending more time posting on Hive and reading/voting on Hive, and spending less time playing Splinterlands. Not exciting but like you said, I think it's better in the long run from the perspective of Hive goals. Great sharing!

I love SL cards but when you play at diamond level, you need to develop them at least to level 6 so that they become competitive... This means you need to invest a lot of money and I prefer to invest my money in Hive Power and HBD at the moment :-)

Ah that's true! Silver has another set of issue.. Lesser to invest but the rewards have been reduced to near nothing. The value of my EOS chests (61 Silver chests) was USD 0.61. Not sure how the players in Bronze are coping though. Hmm.

That's indeed not a big reward with that many chests. Bronze must be a kind of wasteland lol

Hello Achim, I hope you are very well
It was a crazy week, I share almost all your points of view but I decided to take some risks, I entered strongly in TD to have access to the closed BETA, I knew that it was a risk to invest with the game is not ready yet, but to have access to the BETA closed I think it gives the possibility of being able to win more SPS when the game starts, luckily the distribution of SPS 1 million per month to the holders of TD was approved.
This game is already well on its way to being like magic the gathering (so being a competitive player will require constant investment), so I'm evaluating the idea of focusing more as an investor and less as a player (more on renting cards, lands, having licenses and sps stakeado), greetings

Hi! Thanks for your comment. At the moment SL is very challenging for me. I'm always struggeling to reach diamond 1 and I want to improve my deck going forward to be able to compete in Champions again. Therefore I will invest in some selected cards. You are right about TD. Being in Beta will definitely be a big advantage once the game comes out. I fear that I simply don't have the time to play them both :-)

Champion is giving large amounts of SPS, but now it takes several summoners to the maximum to get there :(, until just 3 months ago I could get there with my lvl 6 summoners, but well we will continue in the fight hehehe, greetings
