SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! RIVER NYMPH

[source]

Hi everyone! It's time for the a weekly battle challenge, and the challenge for this week is River Nymph.

About the Monster

River Nymph
River Nymph is a low cost rare card with 1 Magic attack, 3 health and 2 speed, and has the Cleanse ability at level 1. The Cleanse ability is useful against debuffs against your tank and also removes the Poison from the tank in the Noxious Fumes ruleset. It gets the Amplify ability from level 4 and the Swiftness ability at level 8. I’m using a level 2 version of the card, which is slightly faster.

Ruleset

Armored Up: All Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor set
Heavy Hitters: All Monsters have the Knock Out ability
Only the Water and Dragon Splinters can be used
Mana Cap: 25

PositionNameDescription
1Torrent FieldIt costs 0 mana, has only 1 Health and is used here to take damage from the first few attacks.
2Djinn OshannusIt has 2 Magic attack and 10 Health. It is used as the secondary tank here as it has high health.
3Merdaali GuardianIt's main purpose here is to heal the tank.
4River NymphIt has only 1 Magic attack, so I was trying to poke the opponent to death while hoping that the shields last.
5Venari WavesmithIt gives an additional 2 shield to all the monsters which will allow the monsters to take a few more physical hits.
6Chaos AgentI placed it in the last position to absorb some damage in case the opponent used a backline attack.

Strategy

The Armored Up ruleset meant that all the Melee and Ranged attacks are at a disadvantage. As such, my strategy was to use Monsters with Magic attacks to bypass shields. As far as possible, the Monsters should have high shields too, to fend off the Melee Ranged monsters. The Heavy Hitters ruleset is irrelevant to me since I didn't have any Stun cards in my Water Splinter deck.

The opponent used Kelya Frendul as well, and also largely a similar strategy to mine. The key difference was that I had the Merdaali Guardian to heal the tank while his was to have the Spirit Hoarder heal the backline. My strategy worked out in this case because the opponent was defending the backline while I concentrated attack on the frontline. Of course, most of the attacks were rendered useless due to Djinn Oshannus's Void ability, and the battle took painfully long as a result.

Thoughts on the card

I like the River Nymph even though it is not very strong. Its especially useful in rulesets like Little League and Noxious Fumes, and also great against opponent's debuffs on the tank. It's unfortunate that Djinn Oshannus rendered it almost useless in this battle.

Very evenly matched teams, it was the tank healing that won the match.
