In Splinterlands some monsters are genuinely very confusing during selection. You often come across monsters whose powers and abilities make you wonder whether they should be used as a tank on the first position or as a backline monster.

Today I am going to talk about Fenmoor Wood Troll. If you look at its stats and abilities you can easily get confused for a moment about how exactly to use it. Should it be selected as a tank monster or should it be played as a ranged attacker?

If we talk about its stats at level 10 the biggest thing is its armor. It has 5 armor points which makes it a strong tank monster. As we learned in the Campaign mode armor protects the health of the monster.

Until the armor is destroyed melee and ranged attacks cannot directly damage its health unless the enemy has magic attackers. Once the armor is gone only then does the health start taking damage.

Besides that it has 10 health points which greatly improves its survivability during battle. Generally monsters with high health are considered strong and are often better suited as frontline or tank monsters.

Another important attribute is speed. Speed increases attack timing and also improves the monsters chances of dodging enemy attacks. Faster monsters can perform much better during battle and thats the beauty of this power.

Now the surprising thing about this monster is that it also has 3 ranged attack power meaning it can work as a ranged attacker too. This combination makes it a little confusing because a monster that looks suitable as a tank also has strong ranged attack abilities.

To clear the confusion monsters like this are usually best used in the midline position or as a secondary tank. For example in high mana battles your first frontline monster should ideally be a pure tank with extremely strong armor and health even if it does not deal much attack damage.

After that you can place Fenmoor Wood Troll in the second position. It will continuously attack enemies with its 3 ranged power every round while also acting as a secondary tank because of its solid armor and health. This helps protect the rest of your team.

At maximum level it gains the Wingbreak ability which always targets the first flying enemy unit regardless of position. Another powerful ability it has is Blind. Blind gives all enemy melee and ranged attackers a 15% higher chance to miss their attacks. This makes it extremely valuable defensively.

It also has the Headwinds ability which reduces the ranged attack power of all enemy ranged units by 1 each round. This weakens enemy ranged attackers significantly during battle.

Its final ability is Affliction. When this ability affects an enemy monster that monster loses the ability to heal itself or other allied units can heal them. Any monster suffering from Affliction cannot recover health which is extremely useful against healing based teams.

The most interesting thing about this card is its price. Even at level 10 its market price is still very reasonable. One possible reason is that there are many copies of this card available in the market. Its price is around $6.33 making it a very worthy monster card.

If you can afford this monster I would definitely recommend adding it to your deck because it performs very well both as a secondary tank and as an attacking monster.
