Data on the Splinterlands DEC Token | Supply, Burns, Staked and Top Accounts | Aug 2026
The DEC tokens have been going through a maturity phase in Splinterlands. It was the first token that the game introduced, effectively incorporating the play to earn system back in 2019. The initial design was to provide an in-game token with a semi stable value and use it for trade and price in the game.
Through the years it went through several redesigns, especially in how DEC is issued and removed. The data in this report is updated through August 10, 2026.

DEC was introduced in 2019 and it was a reward token that gamers received when playing and winning games. At the beginning the focus was on providing support for the token on the downside, because usually in game reward tokens tend to be sold from gamers. To achieve this Splinterlands uses a so called “product backed currency” where packs and otter assets are sold in fixed DEC price.
Later, in 2021, the SPS token was introduced, that made the price of DEC surge on the upside. There were no efficient mechanics in place to limit the DEC price on the upside and DEC reached 10x the value it was designed to. There were some mechanics in place (printing more when the price is higher), but this was not effective enough to peg the price on the upside. This was back in 2021.
Since then, more tweaks to the DEC tokenomics were introduced. DEC is now not a reward token in the game. It can be created at a fixed price when burning SPS for DEC. This gives it a lot more effective limit on the upper side. On the downside, more products and use cases are introduced where DEC is used or burned. Some of the most recent has been the Land 1.5 expansion that requires staked DEC in order for the land to produce. Another one that is just fresh is the DEC fee to unlock reward cards. Users receive reward cards as locked, soulbound, and after some period they can unlock the burning some DEC in the process.
We will be looking at:
- Daily and monthly DEC created/burned
- DEC created VS burnt
- DEC supply
- Staked DEC on land
- Top accounts staking DEC
- DEC price and market cap
Monthly DEC Supply Change
Here is the monthly chart for the net change in DEC supply.

The monthly chart shows how quickly DEC supply conditions can change. March, April and May were mildly deflationary, followed by a much larger 374M DEC reduction in June. July moved in the opposite direction and added approximately 313M DEC.
For August 1 through August 10, supply declined by another 18M DEC. The recent sequence shows that minting and burning remain event-driven, with large movements around game sales, treasury activity and new DEC sinks.
DEC Supply
Here is the chart for the DEC supply.

https://www.hbdstats.com/sps.html#dec-total-section
This chart shows the DEC supply trend most clearly. Total supply stood at approximately 6.387B DEC on August 10, down by about 148M DEC, or 2.3%, from March 5.
The supply reached an all-time high near 7B in 2022, declined through late 2023 and expanded again during 2024 and 2025. In 2026 it has been volatile: a sharp February increase was followed by contraction through June, a July rebound and another decline during the first ten days of August.
When we plot this as a yearly inflation, this is the approximate data for the last three years.
| Date | Supply | Yearly Inflation |
|---|---|---|
| 1.1.2020 | 4,173,764,521 | 9.77% |
| 1.1.2021 | 4,581,715,347 | 29.90% |
| 1.1.2022 | 5,951,779,514 | 5.17% |
| 1.1.2023 | 6,259,245,902 | -13.55% |
| 1.1.2024 | 5,411,095,406 | 1.57% |
| 1.1.2025 | 5,393,883,993 | -0.32% |
| 1.1.2026 | 6,230,857,143 | 15.52% |
| 10.8.2026 | 6,387,105,929 | 2.51% YTD |
We can see that 2021 was the most inflationary year for DEC, while 2023 was strongly deflationary. Supply increased again during 2024 and 2025. Through August 10, 2026, DEC supply is up 2.51% year to date, despite the large month-to-month reversals.
The structure of the DEC supply remains as important as the headline total. At the August snapshot, approximately 1.67B DEC was staked on land, while the two main DAO accounts held around 1.41B DEC. Land liquidity markets held about 154M DEC and the company account about 272M DEC. These balances reduce the amount that is immediately liquid even though they remain part of total supply.
Staking DEC on Land
Staking DEC on land is relatively new, since November 28th, 2023. Here is the chart.

Most DEC staking happened soon after Land 1.5 launched, but the balance has started moving higher again. Around 1.667B DEC was staked on land on August 10, an increase of about 78M DEC, or 4.9%, from March 5. Staked DEC represented approximately 26% of total supply.
The chart for the current DEC allocation looks like this:

The two main DAO accounts held approximately 22% of the latest DEC supply snapshot, down from 44% in the March allocation. This does not mean that the full difference became freely tradable: balances also sit in company, bridge, market, credit-reserve and other system accounts.
Staked land was the largest named category at approximately 26%. Land liquidity markets represented about 2%, the company account about 4%, and the remaining 45% was grouped as other balances. The allocation chart uses the public DEC account snapshot from August 11.
Top Accounts Staking DEC
Here are the top accounts that staked DEC.

The top account remains @vugtis with approximately 211M DEC net staked. @jarvie follows with 63.7M, @cryptomancer with 55.7M and @azircon with 46.5M. The next largest accounts are @redundancy4040 and @michealb, with 34.6M and 31.8M DEC respectively.
Price
So, after all of this burning and use cases for DEC how is the price doing. Here is the chart.

This is a zoom in chart for better representation in the last two years when DEC is having better mechanics to keep it around the peg. Previously in 2021 its price was 10x the peg and that is offsetting the chart.
DEC traded near $0.000309 on August 10, or roughly 31% of its intended $0.001 reference value. The price fell about 54% from March 6 and reached a low near $0.000177 on July 15, before partially recovering in late July and early August.
Using the August 10 price and total supply, DEC had an approximate market capitalization of $2.0M. This is well below the 4M to 6M USD range discussed in the previous report and reflects the lower token price more than a change in total supply.
All the best
@dalz
Thanks for sharing DEC inflation data!
Great insights and I am waiting also for the Splintershards report as that's were all my assets are. Do you have a timeline also for SPS to publish?
I did one recenlty:
