LIFE SAPPER: All Rounder Filler Monster

(Edited)

Hi everyone, welcome to my Splinterlands weekly battle challenge. This week we should have LIFE SAPPER as our main theme, and I have decided to put two entries about this funny monster. Life Sapper is a good rare card, a Chaos Legion Edition of Death Element. This card actually is not something that special, because we have Venari Bonesmith who has a very similar function with Life Sapper.

As we can see above, both are similar. Venari Bonesmith is a bit stronger due to having more mana requirement. At first I think having a Life Sapper is quite useless regarding I have a high level Bonesmith, however as time progresses, I start to see how Life Sapper can work in the area which Bonesmith can not.

3 Mana Requirement

Sometimes we get a battle which 1 mana is very crucial, for example in small mana cap ruleset or Odds Ones Out (Only Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles) ruleset. This is where Bonesmith can not take part in the battle.

Strength :

  • Low mana required, as mentioned above paragraph
  • Life leech, he will grow big and bigger as the battle progresses

Weakness :

  • low hit damage, rarely we see Life Sapper comes out to kill opponents
  • low health, most of the time we see this monster dies first without doing something significant

Battle Preparation

I found out it's very hard to get a battle where life Sapper had opportunity to shine, most of the time there were monsters which might be better than him. This was the ruleset I found for him:

  • SUPERSNEAK ~ All Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability.
  • 16 MANA

This was a small mana cap battle, the options were limited and thats why I thought Life Sapper might have chance to perform well.

PositionCardAbilityPlan and Strategy
Summoner-1 magic damage and -1 healthOur Favorite Chaos Legion Death Summoner
Main TankThornOur Favorite Chaos Legion Death Tank, high hit damage and high health point with only 6 mana requirement.
SecondLife LeechOur main theme for this battle. I needed him as a mage and as a secondary tank
The LastShieldThis was my backline wall, with a shield to protect incase opponent came with some sneak melee attackers

It's a guild brawl battle for Novice Chaos Legion only fray. Fire vs Death Battle. Both of us came with a combination of magic-melee attack.

Let see how this would go

Round 1

image.png

  • The game started as both party buffing and debuffing their monsters and opponent's monsters.
  • My opponent had 1x3 magic damage and 2 melee damage. Combined all they became 5 damage per turn.
  • My team had 3 melee damage, and 1 magic damage. Combined all became 4 damage per turn.
  • By number, this should be a tie

battle 1 - 1.gif

  • We exchanged damages but none died in the first round

Round 2

battle 1 - 2.gif

  • Life Sapper managed to kill their Antoid Platoon. it became 1 vs 3 for my favor.

Round 3-4

battle 1 - 34.gif

  • This was the situation where we could see RECHARGE ability failed awfully, making the mosters became a punchbag.
  • 1 vs 3, ended as my team bullied their Ifrit Rising to death

Battle Discussion

I got the battle from begining due to Thaddeus Brood, he literally silenced Ifrit Rising down to a level he lost his letal recharging attacks, from potentially 6 damages per 2 rounds to 3 damages per 2 rounds only.

The second key points I had was LIFE SAPPER, if I used a range attacker things would go more balanced/equal for both side.

However there were two points that my opponent, Mr Kumar, and I had in commons:

  • We used monsters with shield ability. It seemed both of us believed Shield or Void might be a handy one in small mana battles
  • We used Magic attacks. Below Silver League rank, whether it's a Rank Battle or a Guild Brawl, Magic is a bit more powerful than Range due to limited monsters with void ability
