Challenge : beat the infamous LLAMA-KRON Combo with 17 MANA

The infamous LLAMA-KRON Combo is wreaking havoc in bronze and silver leagues. A lot of beginners are renting or buying this powerfull combo to quickly climb up the leaderboard. As a result, the price of both cards skyrocketed. At the the time of writing, the lower price for a LVL 1 SCARRED LLAMA MAGE is $699 and 420$ for a LVL 1 KRON THE UNDYING, thus making the combination worth $1,119.

SCARRED LLAMA MAGE + KRON THE UNDYING

Here is a quick recall of the power of this combination at LVL 1.

  • SCARRED LLAMA MAGE is a summoner that costs 7 MANA and gives +2 LIFE, LAST STAND and CLEANSE to all monsters.
  • KRON THE UNDYING is a monster that costs 10 MANA, has a magical attack of 3, speed of 2, 10 LIFE and the HEAL ability.

Together, they thus cost 17 MANA to be played. KRON THE UNDYING is very hard to beat because of the boosted HEAL ability (coupled with LAST STAND) and of CLEANSE. With such buffs, KRON has a total LIFE of 18, a magical attack of 5, regenerate 6 LIFE per round and remove all negative effects at the beginning of each round. I think the only way to beat KRON in these conditions is to deal to him more damages than he does to my tank, while regenerating my tank's LIFE more than he regenerates itself. It's not so easy to build a deck able to do that with the very same amount of MANA than this combination costs (a.k.a 17 MANA).

Yeah, you guessed right ! That's the challenge I am proposing today !

THE CHALLENGE

Beat the SCARRED LLAMA MAGE + KRON THE UNDYING with 17 MANA and BRONZE league conditions (Level limits : Common 1 - Rare 2 - Epic 2 - Legendary 1).
You can play this challenge with other league conditions, but in this case, please specify which league conditions you chose while commenting/answering. As stipulated before, the SCARRED LLAMA MAGE + KRON THE UNDYING is worth $1,119.

Let's find together some cheap way to destroy this infamous and pricey combo!

MY "THEORETICAL" PROPOSITION

Here is my proposition, "theoretical" because I have yet to try it, but if my maths are correct, this combination should break the SCARRED LLAMA MAGE + KRON THE UNDYING.

XIA SEACHAN (LVL 2 - 135$) : 2 MANA. The LVL 2 is important, it allows to invoke common at LVL 3, and the CRUSTACEAN KING only got attack at LVL 3.

TORHILO THE FROZEN (LVL 1 - 5$) : With VOID ability, the damage KRON does to him is compensated by the TANK HEAL ability of the CRUSTACEAN KING.

CRUSTACEAN KING (LVL 3 - 50$) : Heal TORHILO THE FROZEN and does 1 damage (damage starts at LVL 3 only)

PIRATE CAPTAIN (LVL 3 - 12$) : does the missing damages.

All together, they are able to deal 7 damages to KRON, while he is healing only 6 damages per round. The total cost is exactly 17 MANA. At the time of writing, this combination costs $202 (way cheaper than $1,119) .

The problem is that Kron is faster than all monsters which attack him, so there will be misses.
Torhilo the Frozen: 20% miss chance
Crustacean King: 20% miss chance
Pirate Captain: 10% miss chance

So on average it's not 7 damage per round but 0.8 * 4 + 0.8 * 1 + 0.9 * 2 = 5.8 per round.
Another problem is that Torhilo the Frozen level 1 gets 3 damage (5 -> 3 because of Void) per round but it's healed only 2 HP per round. So Torhilo the Frozen has to be level 2.
If you are lucky this combo can win, but unfortunately, Kron will win most of the time.

Combo that always wins:

  • Xander Foxwood
  • Unicorn Mustang (level 3) - melee attack: 4, speed: 4, HP: 11
  • Wood Nymph (level 1) - magic attack 1
  • Child of the Forest (level 3) - ranged attack: 2

So it's 7 damage per round, Kron heals only 6
Unicorn mustang gets 3 damage per round (5 -> 3 because of Void), Wood Nymph heals 3 HP per round
There are 0 misses so this combo wins 100% of the time.

Thank you for your answer. As a matter of fact, I just tried out this strategy and learned the hard way that TORHILO was healed for 2 LIFE only. I just posted here btw, before seing you replied here (https://www.splintertalk.io/hive-13323/@epoq/need-help-understanding-the-crustacean-king-ability). Still, this post is relevant, because I have yet to understand why TORHILO is only healed for 2 and not 3. Thank you for the combo you propose, I was thinking about something like that too. But in order to invoke Unicorn at level 3 (Rare), you have to boost Xander to level 2 (Epic). A bit expensive, but still cheaper than LLAMA-KRON.
