Same Splinterlands VOUCHERS, New Use Case

avatar

It's been a while since I wrote about Spliterlands. Yesterday I listened to the recording of Splinterlands Town Hall, and there it was revealed the first new use case for VOUCHERS.

The team has hinted about new use cases for vouchers for a while, and about this particular one - using them for promo cards - as well.

Even in their description on site it says:

Use vouchers to participate in special promotions!

So it didn't come as a surprise, in my opinion.

The first promo card that will be able to be purchased with VOUCHERS or SPS only is Waka Spiritblade, a fully-developed GF summoner from the Death splinter, using 3 mana and adding the Poison ability to all friendly cards.

image.png

That's a card many crave for, but there are only 1000 printed, 500 sold in game and 500 on WAX. Looks scary too!

The price is hinted to be in the hundreds of VOUCHERS or thousands of SPS. How many hundreds or thousands, that remains to be seen.

I love the Noxious Fumes ruleset and poison in general.

It's a completely different strategy when having a summoner adding poison ability, because in most cases the opponent doesn't have it, so you can take full advantage of that.

Obviously I WANT this promo card!

However, I have to keep in mind a few aspects.

On Splinterlands my main focus right now should be to improve my CL deck and to continue to build up my SPS. Depending on the price of Waka Spiritblade, attempting to purchase it (with so much demand little is guaranteed) might hinder these goals.

On Hive in general, my main goals this year are to increase my Hive Power and HBD, with clear and complicated targets to achieve at the year end. I've been using VOUCHERS to help with those targets, and I don't regret it. One has to have main targets, and not everything should go back to Splinterlands as reinvestments.

That being said, I still want Waka Spiritblade, I just need to see if it makes sense for me to attempt buying it. On the secondary market the prices will be prohibitive, so it's either now or never.

I was discussing yesterday with @achim03 about this card and the conclusion was that every next legendary summoner is better than the previous... When Yodin Zaku appeared, all other summoners were doomed... I thought that there is no chance that we will get better than that... Then Llama came, and now this one... Waka is too powerful and I have no idea how to battle against it...
On the other side, it's nice to see a new use case for VOUCHERs...

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project and it will be highlighted in the next post!

There are some counters, don't worry. :)

It's a death summoner, so speed against death usually works. Magic could work against it too. And of course, using monsters with immunity or cleanse and triage. That's only what I thought of at first hand.

A new ability is needed to counter Waka (and Noxious Fumes), and that is a cleanse for the backline. I'm sure that'll come soon enough.

Yeah, It would be even worse if it was the summoner for something else than Death... lol... I play with death just because I have so many cards with poison... now, imagine a Water splinter with poison like WAKA? 😃

And, I agree, Llama with cleanse is my biggest opponent when I play with death... :) But, again, having ALL your cards poisoned from the beginning will be tough to beat... I have no doubts that they will find a way to create even more powerful card after this :)

Don't be so scared of LLama. In my opinion, it is more of a niche summoner than Yodin Zaku (and both have counters). There are situations where it's unbeatable, unless you also have a Llama, but these are not wide spread.

About Waka, your cards won't be poisoned from the beginning. This is different than Noxious Fumes. Their team has a CHANCE to poison your monsters at every hit, but if they miss or if you hit first, it's game over. And since Death doesn't excel in speed, that is a good counter against Waka. Unless you have a reverse speed ruleset. :)

It looks that I didn't pay attention to the class about Waka... :) Thanks for clarifying, that' makes sense that there is a chance of applying poison... ;)

My main problem is that I'm battling against those beasts with lvl 5 summoners mostly, which means lower-leveled cards in the start... I suppose it's a bit easier on higher levels...
I can beat both, but depends of the opponent's cards choice, of course :)

That's tough, most times.

I think this is going to be a pricy thing to get :-). I will probably profit from selling vouchers at a higher price.

It might be too pricy, I agree. I will sell vouchers too, it's too late for me to start piling them up. If I decide to try to buy it, it's going to be with SPS. But that will hurt my goal of staking up more SPS. It'll be a tough call.

There is a possibility that with profits from selling VOUCHERs until it gets out, you (or better said WE) will be able to buy it from the market... We've seen it many times that people sell cards for ridiculous prices when they come out...

will be able to buy it from the market...

I doubt it. It's a limited print (1000), promo card (bonus in battle), legendary GF (bonus in battle, collection power, SPS airdrop boost), already fully upgraded (usable at every level right away). If someone doesn't want to use it, it will rent out at impressive amounts. I see it into the thousands of USD on the market right away.

I doubt it too, but sometimes, the power of FOMO and FUD is too great for some weak hands... 😂

I echo with you, I feel that have so much time invested with SL, I guess it is time to build Hive Power first.

In some ways I regret I wasn't more aggressive following these goals when all assets on Splinterlands were through the roof, but then I had my eyes on the CL presale and targets there to achieve as well.

I will not be able to buy it but I like the idea to make collabs with artists to make new promo cards. It's a win-win for everybody. I hope you'll be able to buy one ;)

Yeah sure! Exposure for Splinterlands and the artist get his/her own promo NFT immortalized on-chain.

It's a card every Splinterlander would die for ... but not many can have it. That being said, I think it does make sense to try to buy him now, because he will also be a great store of value I think. This is a card that will be very much sought after.

Thanks for your input. I'll weigh things when we'll know the details. It will be interesting to see how will the process for selling the card be, because I believe the demand will be much higher than the offer.

I was just reading the AMA as well. I always believed there would be additional use cases for vouchers but it is hard to wait and hold them when everyone else is selling but I held and did not get rid of any. Granted, I am a small holder of SPS so I am not getting very many to begin with. It is good to know they are expanding their use cases. Take care.

I'm sure vouchers will have an increasing value with more use cases. That is great for both those who want to use them and those who want to sell them.

Good luck getting the card but I think I will avoid it. However I don't mind selling off my VOUCHERs later on the market to get some extra funds. Who knows if I will use it to buy some cards or not.

I'm not decided whether I will attempt buying it or not. Depends on the price too. Depends on how the selling process is organized. If it appears it's gonna a be a race and who gets it first in the first few seconds wins, I'm out for sure.

Thanks for using ListNerds to raise awareness for this post...And for Splinterlands too!

As for the card...Oh boy. Do I ever want a copy.

Just need to figure out if I should sell my liver first to get the funds I'm sure I'll need....

If you'll buy it from the secondary market, you might need to, lol.

Always nice to see new use cases for tokens. However we do need to keep in mind our focus and if what we are looking at buying fits into that plan. I have actually just been selling my Vouchers to get more Hive to reach my goals.
