Whoa! Champions League with LOTS of time to spare!

avatar

I've just reached Champions League 3 not once, but twice this morning after starting close to the beginning of Diamond 1!

Why twice? Because I was "in the zone" and had a pretty good 8-streak in Diamond 1 and I pushed it one more game after reaching CL3 (not before claiming the rewards). Well, I lost that one pretty badly at the strategy level, but it happens. Looked lost from the beginning:

image.png

I played one more game afterwards and I was back in CL3. Then I stopped.

I don't remember in recent history when I was in CL3 this early in the season. That surely happened in the seasons when I reached CL2. Not to mention the 2 or 3 times when I was inches away from being in CL1. But those days are long gone. Now I'm generally pleased with CL3.

image.png

Which poses a question for me. What do I do in the following 3 days and a bit?

I already reached my goal for the ranked season. Do I keep playing attempting to reach CL2? That can be quite risky. Because when you are not happy with what you have, you might end up with less.

Frankly, knowing how difficult it has been for me to reach CL3 in recent months (sometimes during the last few hours, sometimes not at all), it seems a stretch to try to go for CL2.

It might be possible, but unless I see the same kind of consistent results at least a few seasons in a row, I won't take that chance.

What I'll do instead is to rent out my cards from the playing deck for the end of season. These are very powerful cards some of them, and I'm sure they will provide a much better ROI than continuing to play for the next 3 days.

As we know there is a renting craziness at the end of season, which means renting them out too early would be detrimental to me.

What I'll do is offer my teammates from the guild to delegate any card they want from me for about 24 hours for a chance they'll rank up. Then I'll take them all back and rent them out for the end of season.

That will also most likely mean that I won't play during the first day of the next season, because many cards will not have returned. We'll see what that means for the next season's results.

Never tried Splinterlands before?

Many decided to give it a chance long time after they heard about it. You might be surprised. If you are an investor, a gamer, a collector, an NFT or crypto enthusiast, this game and its ecosystem can be for you. This is my referral link if you decide to take the step.

Congratulations on getting into the Champion league!

I have never thought about doing this, but now, you make me think... So, in general, for you, it's more profitable to rent cards for 3 days than to do your daily quests and earn DEC from winnings?

Not for 3 days. For the final day, maybe a day and a few hours. It'll most likely be WAY more profitable. Especially since I have some very good cards. But it's the first time I try it with my playing deck, since I never reached CL3 so early after Splinterlands boomed last summer.

Zoltan, do you need Yodin or any of my cards that are not delegated and I haven't used today to play with them until tomorrow around noon?

Well, I will not reject Yodin... lol... I have rented out a lot of cards and "limited" myself to Diamond 2 league, as I don't have "regular" cards to support stronger summoners... IN reality, maybe I could push to the Diamond 1 league, but I'm still not ready for that...
But, I have finally decided to reorganize my cards, and slowly selling stuff that I don't use and buying what I do use... So, there is a chance to do better in a near future :)

Reorganizing your cards should work out. It takes time to do it, which is probably why you avoided it so far, but that will pay off. I'll delegate Yodin right now.

Thanks for the card!
And you are right, it takes time... I'm doing it little by little for the last 3 days and I'm still on 1/4 of the work... lol... As I like to do things right, I pick priorities and buy cards that I can rent until I decide to use them... I know, I know, I'm a sick person... 😂

Well, I did something stupid. Being used to move cards between my accounts I sent you Yodin instead of delegating it, lol. Can you send it back so I can delegate it this time around? I'd leave it to you until tomorrow, but you might not be around when I need to pull the delegations back.

I deserved that, lol.

Luckily it was you and not someone else.

I delegated it to you this time. I double checked.

Thanks for the card!!! Appreciated!

I have tried to use it, but in the last 4 battles, I got, or a low mana rule, or the Fire splinter was disabled... lol
Bad luck! :)

Congratulations, I will be head to champion 3 by the end of the day or maybe champ 2 or 1. It's not difficult for me but I can say this, I am based on rent so the higher I get in the leagues the better for me. Delegating cards to teammates so one very useful way to help them. It's good showing considering to others

Thanks!

I haven't really tried to play with rentals. That's a different play style, depending on rented cards but also having at disposal a top deck to play with with minimal investment. Using rentals you need to advance as quickly as you can, to minimize the cost of paying for the deck, using your own assets you can take your time, but you might not always have the best cards against other top opponents.

Good luck getting as high as you can this season in CL!

Let your power recharge back to 100% and earn some more DEC plus you might hit CL2

I would be at 100% ECR by tonight - changed my strategy and don't play as much daily as I used to. But I don't think I'd earn more DEC by playing, especially during the EOS, than by renting out.

Wow! It feels great to read this post and the comments from Hivers who play Splinterlands at the Champions League. I never imagined I could reach that level. I am more than happy to reach Gold III by the end of the year.

One step at a time. First you reach gold. Then you reach and stay in gold. Then you'll have a tough time reaching Diamond 3. Then you'll get comfortable in diamond leagues. And finally, the step from diamond to champions is not as big as the other two, because there are no more limits to the cards starting from diamond.

Yes, that's a difference of 150,000 collection power. That would be very challenging to reach Diamond 3. Actually, in my mind just playing at the Gold league is enough to be my long-term goal in playing Splinterlands.

Yeah, I hear many times CP limit is a more complicated milestone to reach than ranking limits. Maybe you learn from hariton who commented here and reaches champions by renting cards.

Well, when I was still playing at the Bronze league, I encountered several times my card rentals canceled out during the last day for I usually rent cards more or less two days before EOS. Now, I am just renting cards no longer to increase my CP but to use cards with a great utility on the battlefield.

Yeah that will keep happening as long as there will still be this EOS rental craziness. Personally, I'd prefer more uniform rates throughout the season. Easier to manage and more predictable for both sides.

Nah, you shouldn't! I just had a head start (almost from the beginning) and was consistent over time. But you can see new players all the time who play at high levels. Some of them kick my ass.

Congrats on the Champion's League achievement! Even though I don't play Splinterlands, the community's infectious enthusiasm and the awesomeness of the project has been something I have kept an eye on since its inception. I love learning about how it all works from fantastic writeups like yours, so thanks for sharing!

Wandered over from Listnerds, hope you are having a splendid day!

Will the new change to cooldown affect your strategy to loan/rent out the cards?
I have been finding that I have to stop playing a card for 24 hours before it will let me rent it out.

No. I took at least 24h off before the EOS anyway, so I can micromanage my cards before I decide what goes out to renting and what stays in the playing deck. Except now I'll also rent out the playing deck for the EOS.

Congratulations! 💪 Reaching Champions league is not easy nowadays.
I wouldn't worry about not playing the first day of next season because it's the worst day to play: The reward pool is empty (supply of DEC come on the 2nd day of seasons) and it's a struggle because everyone tries to rush it to get to the top as soon as possible.
You're gonna make a lot of money renting out your cards on the last day 😄

That depends. I pulled quite nice rewards during the first day (and the second day). The problem is indeed the competition which is pretty high early on.

You're gonna make a lot of money renting out your cards on the last day 😄

I agree.

Congratulation @gadrian, It is nice to see that you spend some time gaming once in a while and not just focused on your analytical activities. The brain needs a break once in a while. I have just started fumbling around in Splinterland but I did get my first win yesterday, That was cool even though I don't really know the strategy very well, but it is coming, eventually, lol

Great to hear that you've had your first win. What league are you in? Novice-Bronze? At that level there's little strategic play, and a lot of teams submitted with your eyes closed, because there aren't many variations you can pick from. Just look at the teams the opponents that beat you use. And try to understand why they used what they did.

You may be surprised, but Splinterlands is one of my main focuses. :) I just haven't written about it in a while. But I play daily. Plus the management, claiming and everything else that takes a good chunk of time.

Thanks man! With my main account I'm good where I am, been there since the beginning of guilds. But if I want to push forward with my bronze league account, I'll let you know. At some point I will decide to push forward, most likely when I'll have enough CP for bronze 2 without renting every time.

Just make sure to leave enough collection power so you don't go down in rank. I have been happy with Gold II for the past year or so but I have also noticed that going up in ranks is a lot harder with the huge influx of new users.
