Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Octopider. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Featured Monster: Octopider
The card this time is a large damage dealer and debuffer. Unfortunately my octopider is only level 1 so I will not have the demoralize (-1 melee attack) and blind (enemies melee/range attacks miss more often). My strategy for using this card would be use it to deal damage and if it comes down to it, use its decent HP as a tank.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The rule set has changed my original plan for the Octopider but I would want low HP cards to take advantage of the HP equalizer ruleset. This would mean a card with 1 HP normally would have the same HP as the highest HP card. The enrage ruleset would also be helpful towards my physical monsters but I will have to check how much damage I can do first.
The summoner I choose to use this time is Contessa L'Ament. It only has a -1 ranged attack debuff for the opponent. Unfortunately my death splinter teams are fairly bad and I normally avoid it like a plague. Compared to using a level 1 Zintar, I think having higher level cards would help me more in the fight. Also Mimosa doesn't make sense because it takes up 4 mana that I can use for an extra card or two.
I am not liking the current match up. I went with the giant scorpion because it cost 4 mana. I had to mix up my lineup to get my lineup to be 6 cards with the octopider taking up 8 of my mana.
I am fighting a bot for the match but I am not liking the current setup. That ancient lich looks like it might be quite problematic if I lose too many cards before I can get to it. My opponents zintar will cause me to lose 2 damage a round and they will only lose 1 damage per round from my Contessa.
I took out the Haunted Spirit by dealing enough damage and it saved me some time since it did not have a chance to heal. My scorpion and chicken took some damage but my damage dealers in the back are ready to dish out some pain.
I managed to kill the Undead Priest so I managed to get back an HP for all my surviving cards. But the 3rd round isn't look as nice since I missed so many attacks on the Fallen Spectre. I am hoping my next round goes well and I can start focus on killing off that Ancient Lich.
All my ranged and melee monsters failed to deal any damage. My chicken is also dead so I have a feeling that this might be a very close match. Whether or not I win or lose is going to be based on whether or not I can kill that Ancient Lich.
One of my ranged attacks managed to land so I will kill off my opponents spectre this round. Given this, I have about 6 damage I can deal with them each round so long as my maggot and spectre tanks. It seems like I have decent changes at winning the fight.
I think I was lucky to have my spectre die before it had a chance to attack because my maggot had the chance to damage the Ancient Lich. Given the speed of my cards, I should be able to finish off the Ancient Lich if I do not miss.
The Ancient Lich is dead and there is no chance I can lose because the remaining monsters don't have evade or flying.
I speed up to the end of the match since there wasn't anything noteworthy. The damage I had left far outpaces what my opponent had left.
This time around the battle went as I expected. The octopider and my soulstorm sitting towards the end were able to help me kill off the Ancient Lich. Without that card on my opponent's side, I was not worried about winning the match.
There were probably a few more strategies that I could use if my Octopider was level 3 and had demoralize. With that, using Mimosa as my main summoner would give me an edge no matter what type of splinters they use. However I do think it would not affected the this match.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would of done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
