Splinterlands: Dire Bear is a great damage dealer when it can attack
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Dire Bear.
Featured cards

Dire Bear is an earth splinter that costs 10 mana. This splinter starts with no abilities. It doesn't learn any skills, but leveling it does increase its stats. I don't use this card too often. It has quite high attack, but I can only use it in the first spot unless specific rulesets are there.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are What Dosn't Kill You and Melee Mayhem. This means that all melee monsters attack from any position, and all monsters gain the enrage ability. There is also 27 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for fire, life, and dragon.
This fight is interesting because it is a ruleset that heavily favors melee monsters. I don't see that often, but melee monsters get boosted damage as well as speed.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aurelia | 6 | Summoner | +1 Health |
| Spellmonger | 4 | 1st | Thorns |
| Dread Tafarian | 9 | 2nd | Heal |
| Dire Bear | 10 | 3rd | |
| Great Bear Druid | 9 | 4th | |
| Total Mana: | 38 |
My summoner is Marlai Aurelia for the +1 health. My tank is Spellmonger with thorns. My backup tank is Dread Tafarian with heal. After that is Dire Bear and Great Bear Druid as my damage dealers.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while the rest of my lineup deals damage. Spellmonger is up front because melee monsters are favored in this lineup. It just makes sense to have thorns up front for that counter damage. The rest is just based on damage and how well they can tank hits.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match. My opponent might have quite a few magic monsters, but the enrage will increase my damage when they get hit. So I don't think it will take long to kill off monsters.
Round 3

My opponent is down to 2 monsters just like me. I do have the damage advantage due to the enrage though.

I won that match a few rounds later
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. My monsters tanked the hits while my strong melee monsters dealt damage from the back. Dire Bear was great because it gained 2 extra attack from the enrage, and that made it easier to finish off my opponent.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Great synergy between the summoner and the rulesets.
