Splinterlands: Levels matter because it lets you hit earlier
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a battle where I won because I had higher level monsters.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Weak Magic and Junior Varsity. This means all monsters hit armor first, and monsters can't have a cost of more than 6. There is also 44 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for fire, death, or dragon.
The combination of the rulesets makes it such that magic monsters are not as effective, and we can't use high mana cost monsters.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incessant Sage | 6 | Summoner | +1 armor |
| Spellmonger | 4 | 1st | Thorns |
| Paprikash | 6 | 2nd | Reach |
| Lady Amara | 6 | 3rd | |
| Wild Horse Tamer | 6 | 4th | |
| Hungry Ulund | 5 | 5th | |
| Grand Consul Minion | 4 | 6th | |
| Total Mana: | 37 |
My summoner is Incessant Sage for the +1 armor. My tank is Spellmonger with thorns. Then I have Paprikash as a backup tank with reach. Lady Amara is another backup tank, but it's magic-based. Finally, I have three ranged monsters as damage dealers.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while I deal as much damage as possible. My first three monsters work more as tanks, while my last three ranged monsters focus on damage.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is to my advantage. My opponent is using the same monsters as me but in a different placement and at a lower level. In this way, I think my lineup is superior, and with a higher level, my cards will attack before his.
Round 4

A few rounds later, my opponent is left down to 1 monster while I still have 3 of mine. My opponent can't attack so it is my win.

I won that match a few rounds later.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned because I had higher level cards. My opponent was using the same cards but in a different lineup, and that level advantage let me attack earlier than him. This let me kill off some of his monsters before he could attack me, and let me win this match without too many issues.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

First time I see this new ruleset, it never happened to me yet, hard to keep up with all those
This ruleset has been out for a few weeks, but I do agree that it is hard when they are adding in new rulesets almost every single week.
