Splinterlands: Thanalorian Scion is great in Target Practice

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Thanalorian Scion.

Featured cards

Thanalorian Scion is a water splinter that costs 5 mana. This splinter starts with low health and speed, but it has high armor. It starts off with corrosive ward and void armor. It learns true strike at level 5. As it levels up, the speed and health never change, but that void armor ability is what makes this card great. At level 11, it's the equivalent of 11 health so long as the opponent does not have the shatter ability, even if the opponent is using magic monsters. I don't think the true strike does much on a magic monster, but I guess it might be useful if the opponent has phase.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Target Practice. This means that there all magic or ranged monsters gain the snipe ability. There is also 29 mana available, and I can use fire, water, life, or dragon splinter.

This ruleset is interesting because it's a pure battle of how magic/ranged monster attacks work. That snipe can go straight through to your backline if you are not careful.

My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank is Halfling Refugee. Thanalorian Scion is my backup tank. Daigendark Surveyor is my second backup tank with magic reflect. Daarg Deadblast adds weapons training and swiftness to my team. After that are some non-attacking monsters to take advantage of weapons training, and a magic monster for damage.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Halfling Refugee is there to delay the melee monsters and allow my Scion to tank more snipe damage. In the case that Halfling Refugee dies, then Daigendark Surveyor will be the snipe tank. The rest of my monsters are just there for damage.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match. My opponent has quite a few monsters that can't attack, and he has a monster with burn to hurt his own lineup. In a battle of endurance, my team will definitely win. My opponent also doesn't have any magic or ranged monsters.

Round 2

A round later, my opponent has already lost 2 monsters while I have only lost 1. My damage is mostly intact, but my opponent just doesn't have the damage to kill me before burn kills him off.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. I had Thanalorian Scion as a backup for the magic or ranged monsters, but it ended up being a backup against my opponent's melee monster. I was overprepared, but it worked out well as most of my damage was intact due to Scion. My opponent made too many mistakes by having a few monsters that could not attack in his lineup.
