Deck Building...Questions About The Best Strategy

When I got into Splinterlands first, I knew nothing about the game play. Card games like this, were so off my radar it wasn't funny...

Slowly, I've been getting more involved and learning how to play. While I'm not what you would call an expert, I think of myself as a savvy player in training. And right now, I'm trying to figure out how to get out of Gold and into Diamond league for the first time in my career.

And to do that, I need to build some effective decks.

Problem is, I didn't understand this aspect of the game (and still have trouble with it to be honest)...And I'm trying to decide what the best course of action is.

Upgrade your summoners

So here's the problem with this plan of action, most of the best summoners in the game are kinda pricey lol

But regardless, if I want to grow I'll need to invest in these...So the question, which summoners would you invest in first to grow from Silver / Gold...To Diamond league?

Do I focus on one splinter at a time?

This is another question that I keep asking myself. I love Fire, Water and Earth...Should I focus on these splinters first to build up the decks?

Or do I need to have a much more spread out approach to deck building?

Renting vs. Buying

I will be honest, I'd much rather own the cards. However, that whole 'price' thing comes into play.

Would it be worth it to perhaps rent out the cards I'm missing? Or stick to my guns and even dollar cost average into owning the cards I would need?

And there are so many more things going on in my mind when it comes to properly and effectively building a 'Diamond League' deck.

So I'm hoping to get your feedback on what the best approach is.

Just to note, I'm an investor first and then game player second. So telling me a card is a great investment is o.k. LOL. I'm just trying to see where I should focus my energy and attention on first...

Because I'm happy with my deck, but I'm pretty sure I went about it all wrong when I was leveling cards up and buying some. I did focus on getting mostly level 1 cards....Especially the summoners :(

Looking for suggestions and would be grateful for any help!

Yes, you can easily play the game with three splinters, even less. I find three the right balance.

From an investment perspective, I think getting more gold foils and legendaries would be best as their value seems to hold up. But the official guide when playing the game says to upgrade the summoners first.

Yeah I have a few summoners maxed, all the rare Untamed ones.

But I play with the big boys mostly, Yodin and Kitty lol

I'd like to think we have similar situation especially when it comes to summoners.
I've been building my strongest elements first from summoner to monsters then I move to the next element.

Most of my summoners are level 4 which the less pricey ones. But then there are those summoners out there that one should really own which are now the cost of a leg and an arm 😃, which I sometimes ask myself what should I do with the summoners I've been leveling up.

The answer to myself is I will keep leveling up the summoners I have. Am hoping someone suggests a better strategy too 🙂

Looks like summoners are the way to go.

But dang, they are pricey. Guess I need the slow and steady approach to leveling them up lol

You have to keep in mind Diamond is the first league with no limitations for summoners and monsters. So without a leveled up deck, you'll have a tough time resisting there, even if you reach Diamond.

The advice is good, summoners upgraded first, otherwise you won't be able to use your monsters to their full level, even if they are upgraded.

I am not one who focused on particular splinters, but it's quite easy to rank up with top decks for only two splinters. I'd advise against choosing only 1 splinter to level up and play it consistently, because then the opponent knows in advance what you will be playing. And sometimes that can be fatal, even if the deck is awesome.

On choosing the summoners. Be careful not to choose (only) niche summoners (which can only be effective in a limited number of rulesets and combinations) and also have at least one summoner of 3 or 2 mana leveled up. High mana summoners (like Yodin Zaku, your favorite) can be great, but they are useless in low mana battles. And in higher leagues, low mana battles are more frequent.

Yeah I've noticed that...99 mana games are far and few in between lol

Thanks for the advice man, appreciated!

I am very interested in the answers to these same questions. Since I am just starting out both investing and playing, I would like to make the choices that benefit both at the same time. I have noticed that summoners are not readily available. I look forward to reading what comments you receive. Take care.

I think I'd target some of the lower cost summoners, you can still get some of the DICE and UNTAMED ones for cheap...Well cheap-ish lol
