My deep respect to the developers and artists of this not only exciting but also incredibly stylish game. It was a true pleasure to study the details, dive into the lore, and work with the character you created.

“The Scales That Remembered”

A short tale in a Tolkien spirit, with a faint Kafka-like quiet strangeness

The winds above Centrum were heavy that morning—so heavy that Larissa felt as though the sky itself hesitated to go on being sky. A familiar pressure stirred behind her curved horns, that faint tingling her ancestors once called the Warning of Stormed Paths.

Below her, the great Dragon city behaved oddly. Its towers shimmered as though seen through half-closed eyes of some immense drowsing creature. People walked slightly out of step with their own shadows, which trailed behind them by a heartbeat. It was the kind of quiet wrongness one noticed only when living long alongside Dragons and magic… or when one’s blood carried memories too ancient to be clear.

Larissa halted in the high corridor of the Gloridax keep. Her hands—once stained with charcoal from painting portraits in the streets—now thrummed with Dragon-taught power. Something was approaching Centrum. Something that remembered her people.

A messenger ran in, pale as morning frost.
“Champion Larissa—there’s… a shape beyond the eastern cliffs. The watchers say it is shaking the mountains off its shoulders as it walks.”

She needed no further explanation.
The Titan of Doom—or some remnant echo of it—had found its way through the Splintering’s fractures.

But before she could reach the gates, the sky answered first.

Thunder cracked the clouds open, and a single figure spiraled downward: scales like molten dusk, wings rimmed with living lightning.

The very Dragon—so legend claimed—who had witnessed the last stand of the chamen.

It landed with a weight that made the stones themselves remember old battles. Its storm-veined eyes studied her not with command, but with recognition—an ancient, impossible familiarity.

“You came,” Larissa whispered, though she had never believed Dragons replied to calls.

The Dragon lowered its head, and in that motion lay a deep, solemn wisdom—heavy with centuries of memory. It had not come for Centrum. It had come for her—the last promise of a dwindling people whose bravery the world had forgotten.

A low, trembling rumble rose from its throat—not a threat, but a sorrow.
The Dragons had remembered the chamen, Larissa realized. They always had. Even when Athua forgot. Even when the chamen themselves nearly vanished into myth.

The Titan’s echoing steps rolled across the horizon like muted, distant bells. For one strange, uneasy moment, Larissa felt the quiet absurdity of it all: a street artist with charcoal-stained fingers, standing against a reborn colossus—yet expected to be a champion.

She placed her hand upon the Dragon’s warm scales.
“Then let us go,” she whispered. “For my ancestors. For Centrum. For those who stood before me.”

The Dragon exhaled a spiral of lightning that wrapped around her like a mantle, lifting her onto its back. Together they rose into the air—girl and storm, champion and ancient witness—flying toward the looming shadow with the calm certainty of those who know that history is watching once more.

And as they flew, Larissa felt something stir deep within her, older than fear and older still than Dragon magic:

Her people were not gone.
They lived in memory—
and in a Dragon’s loyal return,
arriving exactly when it was needed most.
