Enchanted Defender Weekly Battle Challenge || Ep. #61 || Splinterlands

This week's battle challenge focuses on the Enchanted Defender:

This steaming and sputtering pile of power is the result of years of secret Gloridax experimentation. The Enchanted Defender combines the latest magical technologies (stolen from Azmare) with indestructible metals from the quarries of Khymeria. Its Power Core is made from the concentrated sap of the Burning Land’s Everburning Trees, and spied gear systems from Gobson have provided its complex inner-working. The Dragons named it "Defender" as a sort of cruel mockery, knowing full well that it was designed to destroy.

A Promo common rarity monster from the Neutral Splinter at level 5:

  • Estimated cost: $5.276 (for gold foil version)
  • Mana cost: 4
  • Melee attack: 2
  • Speed: 1
  • Armor: 6
  • Health: 1
  • Thorns ability: When hit a melee attack, does damage back to the attacker

The Enchanted Defender is a pocket-sized tank. What it doesn't have in health and damage - he makes up for it in armour! The Enchanted Defender is the card I always go to in Little League and Super Sneak rulesets battles. I have the gold foil version and have levelled it up to level 5 to unlock the Thorns ability. When I look at the Enchanted Defender usage stats, its usage in the Bronze, Silver and Gold league is relatively low, which I can understand. Most new players look at the card and see that it has very low health and it requires an investment to up the health a bit. I hope with this weekly battle challenge, I will showcase that the Enchanted Defender can be a handy addition to your deck in specific rulesets.

Battle Details

  • Mana cap: 14
  • Ruleset(s): Super Sneak, Broken Arrows

Lineup Details

  • Tyrus Paladium (Summoner): +1 armor to all friendly monsters
  • Sacred Unicorn: primary melee damage tank
  • Enchanted Defender: support melee tank and thorns ability to deal with super sneak ruleset
  • Furious Chicken: sacrificial monster to lure in enemy monsters

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

Most definitely! In these low mana cap battles, I generally like to use Enchanted Defender as a support tank and use the Furious Chicken as a sacrificial lamb to hope the enemy's magic monsters target it first, before focusing on the Enchanted Defender. With the Super Sneak rulesets, where all monsters get the sneak ability, I knew that the Enchanted Defender thorns ability would be crucial (as long as he can survive any magic attacks). All these strategies worked in my favour and what this battle showed is how potent the thorns ability is on the Enchanted Defender!

Do you like the Enchanted Defender? Why or why not?

The Enchanted Defender is a useful card, and I almost always use it in Little League rulesets. But I do understand why most people are not swayed into using it due to its low health. Nonetheless, if you intend to use it, it is an absolute must unlock the thorns ability as it just provides another layer of usefulness to the card.
