Avengers or Scavengers? Or both? (A Splinterlands weekly battle challenge)

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a card game, similar with Hearthstone, where you can play battle against other players to get a better rank or in tournaments. It is a NFT game based on Hive Blockchain, but the crypto rewards (DEC is the name of their native token) can be used on ETH, TRX, WAX and on the lately added Binance Smart Chain (you can provide liquidity to mine CUB on Cub Finance). You can also provide liquidity on ETH network, but this is a bit more expensive, even if you get some Uniswap bonus in DEC paid straight to your game account (I got 3-4000 DEC monthly with around 60K DEC providing liquidity). DEC is similar with a stablecoin, most of the time, 1000 DEC being $1.

And now it is easier than before (one of my main complain was about beginners not having enough cards at the start) because they offer quite a lot of cards not to the one starting to play, making it a more pleasant experience - I remember losing game after game when I just started 7 month ago, so I am glad that the developers sorted this out. There are big changes and improvements coming soon, according to the Hive rumor mill. Splinterlands governance token will start airdrop soon, every day, if i understood correctly, with DEC being the best choice to maximize it, and all the lands from Praetoria are sold now. Just check this awesome page about what are the Lands supposed to do.

On this week challenge we have something different, instead of a monster, we got a skill, and the lottery brought us the Scavenger ability. So, I can count 9 monsters with Scavenger skills, and here it is a list of them and at what level the skill is activated:

  • Ant Miner - Level 1
  • Feasting Seaweed - Level 6
  • Screeching Vulture - Level 6
  • Cave Slug - Level 6
  • Maggots - Level 6
  • Dark Ha'on - Level 2
  • Parasitic Growth - Level 6
  • Gelatinous Cube - Level 1

Now, Scavenger is very useful in certain rulesets, like Fog of War, where you can use them for the 5th and 6th position, or one with plenty of deaths, like Earthquake or Poison, where I use them on the 4th and 5th position. I usually use the one from the splinter I play, and the Parasitic Growth, you can even up the scales with the Cube if you can afford it. The can be useful even in the Little league ruleset sometimes

So, for the challenge, this were the starting conditions:

Mana Limit: 46

Rulesets: Little League - all monsters and summoners need to cost under 4 Mana

Teams:

Mine - Summoner: Daria Dragonscale (+1 Melee Damage), Crystal Jaguar as tank for its return damage, Horny Toad to Poison the enemy tank, Manticore as back-up Reach user, and for damage I had Parasitic Growth with Scavenger and 2 Ranged damage units, Fire Spitter and Peacebringer.

Opponent - Summoner: Mylor Crowling (all units return melee damage), Failed summoner as its only tank, even if it has Thorns and Magic reflect, lucky me, I did not had any magic user, then Magi of the forest for heavy magic damage, Goblin Thief to strike on my back, Nymph for heal, Khmer Princess and Child of the Forest for some extra kick.

I must to admit, at first I thought this game is lost, but then there is always some randomness, mostly against me. His Failed Summoner fell in the second round, followed by his Khmer Princess and Magi and my Jaguar. Not a bad second round. In the third one all they could kill was my Toad, and in the fourth round I manage to get rid of his last three monsters. A close fight, at least at the beginning, and my Parasitic Growth manage to finish the game with 5 Health, despite the melee return damage boost of the opponent.

Star of the game?

On the side note, my continuous support for Splintertalk.io is going well, with my SPT tokens number raising at almost a million. 935K of my target of 1000K reached and hopefully the 1 million will be done in one or two months. A bit difficult now as the price went up a lot. All of it is delegated to @monster-curator, as this account is doing a great work curating the best posts on the forum. bottom spt.png

All the best,

George

Parasitic growth has a low mana number that is convenient when the ruleset limits players to low mana cap cards.
