Splinterlands: First Maxed Soulbound Card!

For me, one of the most exciting parts of being in the Splinterlands ecosystem is the Collection process. In the past, it was a matter of economics to bring resources in and buying assets to build your Collection. However, after the challenges of oversupply of Reward cards due to the bot farming exploits, the team executed an immediate plan to end print rates of open NFT reward cards and instead make them Soulbound. While it was not the most happy time for me to hear this, it was probably the right thing to do. The question now became, how long could it take to get the set completed for our competitive levels?

RNG has never been my friend but it does what it is supposed to in that over time, things will fall into place as expected. That has been mostly true for my Collection of these Soulbound cards. I have slowly but surely gotten a good distribution of cards throughout the process. Of course there are outliers on both side but that is RNG playing out. I have actually felt benefited so far as I have finally gotten my first maxed Soulbound card. Unexpectedly, it has been a Gold Foil Legendary, Beria Snakeye.

Since Gold Foils need less BCX to combine for max, I was lucky to get two separate pulls of Berix to get a maxed copy ready for battle! I originally thought it would be a common card as I have started to get a number of them towards level 8 and almost 9. However, the amount needed for Common is much higher and dependent on RNG for amounts and even foil. The fact that I got the same GFL drop is pretty lucky so I guess I can no longer complain about RNG.

As I look through the rest of the cards, I am basically at Gold League level ready which is great as I have already been able to play with some for both ranked battles in Champion and even for some Gold League tournaments. It has been fun learning the meta around some of these new cards as they bring some interesting combinations. Unfortunately, the more interesting combinations will come with the new Summoners but those have been more difficult to accumulate. Given that I would need them to be maxed for my league playing, it may take a couple of more Seasons (and luck) to achieve that.

While I wasn’t happy at the beginning of the Soulbound announcement, I am enjoying the grind to accumulating these cards for my Collection. I actually think I will benefit from these as I never sold any cards in the past either so once I get a maxed deck, I can just start accumulating for my Land where I will need plenty of cards anyway. If I get even more luckily and have time, there may be some more Gold Foils maxed version I could get as well which would align with my Modern approach as well. This is a great example of letting decisions from the team roll to be positive in the end!

This looks to be a high powered card.
I would love to rent it out, it may bring consistent income, and when I play in high mana matches it would be pretty awesome !
