The Hidden Scarcity: A Reflection on Card Availability in Splinterlands

As I take a moment to reflect on the future of the Splinterlands ecosystem, I've come to realize a crucial aspect that many seem to overlook: the potential for card scarcity. While it may appear that there's an abundance of cards circulating within the ecosystem, the reality may be quite different due to factors such as inactive accounts and lost collections.

One of the common phenomena in the world of cryptocurrency is the presence of dormant or inactive accounts. These accounts may have once been active participants in the Splinterlands community but have since lost interest or moved on to other pursuits. As a result, their collections of cards remain untouched, effectively reducing the available supply in the ecosystem.

This situation is reminiscent of the concept of "lost" bitcoins in the broader cryptocurrency market. It's estimated that there are around 4 million bitcoins that will never move again due to various reasons such as lost private keys or abandoned wallets. Similarly, in Splinterlands, there may be a significant number of cards that are effectively "lost" to inactive accounts, contributing to their scarcity.

Furthermore, we must consider the deflationary nature of cards in Splinterlands due to their combining utility. As players combine cards to level them up or create more powerful versions, the supply of individual cards decreases, leading to increased scarcity over time.

When we combine these factors—the presence of inactive accounts and the deflationary nature of cards—we begin to realize that many cards may already be scarcer than they appear on the surface. While the marketplace may seem well-stocked with various cards, the actual availability for active gameplay and collection building may be more limited than we realize.

As we navigate the future of Splinterlands, it's essential to keep these considerations in mind. While the ecosystem continues to evolve and grow, the underlying dynamics of card availability and scarcity play a significant role in shaping its trajectory. Thank you for joining me on this reflection, and let's continue to explore the fascinating world of Splinterlands together!

Good insight. The truth is we only need a couple hundred serious players to come into the game to wipe everything off the market. This is why I'm hopeful Matt has a solid marketing strategy in place once NPE is done.
