BEGINNER'S GUIDE: Essential Nature Splinter Rentals for High Rank Bronze

avatar
(Edited)

This guide is the second in a series I am writing to give beginners an easy way to reach 1000+ MMR and beyond. You can use these tips to either reach Silver I very quickly, or to compete for top 20 bronze to earn seasonal DEC rewards.

I will explain all of the cards that you should get to be fully equipped for 95+% of rulesets using the nature splinter. Every time you play nature, if you have level 2 or 3 of all these cards, you'll be able to build an S tier meta build in Bronze.

The idea is simple: Rent level 3 copies of all the common cards, level 2 of the rares/epics, and level 1 for the legendary cards. These are the highest levels for Bronze.

Summoners

Summoners are the most important. You need a high level summoner to be able to use higher level copies of other cards. If you have level one summoners, you are doomed. This is the very first thing to rent as soon as you are able to earn any DEC.

Wizard of Eastwood

This is my primary hero for nature class. Reducing armor by 2 is very useful and usually means removing all the armor on a monster. That can save you one or more attacks on the path to killing it which is a big tempo swing.

Mylor Crowning

1 mylor crowning.png

Mylor is the fun option, giving all of your monsters thorns. When it works, it really works: opposing melee attackers will receive 2 damage every time they attack any of your creatures.

That's a huge swing and a win against more fire splinter teams. However some splinters use mostly magic and ranged attacks, which mylor does not help against. I mostly use this hero in rulesets that restrict or weaken magic/ranged attacks.

Monsters

Brownie

This card gives you a double Creeping Ooze essentially because you can boost your own speed by one for only a single mana. Since Ooze slows the opponent's monsters by one, that gives you a big speed advantage.

I use this card in about half of my nature matches. It isn't essential to force it into every single lineup, but whenever it is convenient to leave an extra mana open I do it.

Earth Elemental

With 9 total stat points for only 3 mana, this card is the definition of value. The downside is that one attack isn't very much and will do no damage against a creature with the ability shield. I use this card in many of my nature matches.

Flesh Golem

1 flesh golem.png

Level 3 Flesh Golem is one of the strongest cards in the bronze splinter. It heals itself for three health every turn, so if your opponent is running a low damage set up they are probably screwed.

Combine this with Wood Nymph for even crazier heals. If the opponent uses melee attacks, you can use Mylor Crowning and get the heals + thorns for the big nature stall strategy.

Khmer Princess

For two mana, getting one magic damage that you can hide on the bench is an excellent value. If the opponent doesn't have some snipe or opportunity to kill this card, it can turn the match.

Magi of the Forest

This card is nice for fast steady magic damage. If your opponent has been using a lot of high armor monsters in their recent matches then a magic strategy including Magi is possibly the path to victory.

Nectar Queen

1 nectar queen.png

Four melee damage is a lot, especially combined with eleven health. This is a good tank for certain rulesets and the flying ability can allow you to clutch some victories.

Nectar Queen is more of a backup option for specific rulesets, I would look to Flesh Golem and Unicorn Mustang as your primary choices.

Unicorn Mustang

1 unicorn mustang.png

This card is one of the most effective answers to an opponent who has been using high magic damage strategies in recent matches. If you see them using the crazy high magic damage water splinter strategies, you'll need Unicorn Mustang to tank at the front of your team.

Wood Nymph

1 wood nymph.png

Wood Nymph is your primary healer in the nature splinter. In high-mana rulesets you can use it alongside Flesh Golem for double heals, or in midrange mana rulesets you can combine it with either Unicorn Mustang or Nectar Queen for support.

Wood Nymph tends to die very easily to snipe and opportunity trait monsters, so keep an eye out on your opponent's recent matches. If they regularly use opportunity, especially with Pyre, you might not want to use it.

Conclusions

Nature splinter is a great class for many rulesets. The level 3 Flesh Golem was one of the big turning points for me as I started to consistently win 75+% of my matches in bronze. So many opponents don't have an answer for the self-healing golem, and it combines so powerfully with Mylor Crowning.

There are some other cards you can consider for this splinter but I believe this list contains all of the most essential choices.

I'll be tackling Water Splinter next time. At first I had no idea how to play Water but now I'm starting to get an understanding of how it works and it is an incredibly powerful option for many rulesets.

I love nature splinter. I learned about some new cards today.

Flesh Golem is just insane.

This is probably my favorite splinter to play right now, and Mylor is definitely my favorite summoner at the moment.

So many good tanks, like you mentioned. Give them thorns and heals and it's just dirty.

Dirty is the perfect word haha, so fun to destroy opponents with the thorns
