The Vulture's Last Stand: Splinterlands Challenge of the Week - Scavenge!
This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Scavenge ability.
And I have possible the ULTIMATE Scavenge showcase this week - a battle featuring the Screeching Vulture who ends up in LAST STAND position thanks to the Sacred Llama Mage....
The Vulture is one of my favourite Scavenge card, hard to believe he is a mere reward card!
He has some decent stats - with health being his weakness, but that's mitigated by Scavenge, as long as he can get through a couple of rounds with other monsters dieing!
The battle below features the Vulture in a LAST STAND epic!
The Rule Set and Line Up
- Mana 13 - Vulture = 3 mana, nice for low mana battles!
- Equaliser - good for the Vulture with his low health
- Only Melee Monsters - so Opportunity monsters are good!
Summoner - Sacred Llama Mage
- The Cocatrice - Risky low mana tank, relying on misses!
- The Chicken, always gets an in with low mana
- Brownie - agains low mana, and two buffs for one mana
- The Vulture - the main damage card, angling for Last Stand!
Did my strategy work?
YES, YES, YES, one of my most stylish victories.
- Round 1 - Carnage from the start - I win the speed start and take out his Chicken, the Vulture doing his bit, but he gets my Cocatrice - err, what about those misses?!?
- Round 2 - I take out his toad, again the Vulture doing his share of damage, I lose my Chicken.
- Round 3 - I lose my Brownie, he has more damage than me, but now Last Stand triggers on the Vulture:
Just in case the Vulture's stats aren't clear enough:
- Round 3 continued - The Vulture takes out his Brownie
- Round 4 - Double miss on my Vulture thanks to that 8 health, i hit his Vulture.
- Round 5 - I hit his culture again, taking it out thanks to my now 5 health. The Harpy misses again
- Round 6 - I take out the harpy, BOOM! And end up with MORE health than I had in round 3:
How important was The Vulture and Scavenge
Absolutely CRUCIAL - his scavenged health was vital in keeping him alive in the last rounds of the battle.
And in combination with the Sacred Llama Mage's +2 health and last stand giving him a serious boost, he proved very resilient, and VERY missable thanks to the extra speed!
Although maybe the Last Stand was more important - it blew my opponent's scavenging vulture and double opportunity out of the water, which is usually a pretty effective strategy!
THE PROBLEM is that he'd be useless against the BORING stock 13 mana strategy which is Llama Mage plus Maxed Flesh Golem.
Final Thoughts: The Vulture: worth buying?
YES - get a gold one if you can, he comes in VERY handy!
If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

Not last stand but my vulture took all of the monster from opponent team. Indeed if it go on kill ,it can be very hard to stop. I guess I won almost a lost battle there.

That's interesting! Engrage has more of an impact than last stand, except for the health aspect, funny battle!
That is one awesome card.
Nice Job with the battle.

.I do like the vulture. A lot of bang for the buck once it's levelled up a bit.
Yes, it's one of those where you get a lot from Level 6!
I have a gold level 6, so there's more incentive to use it. It's helped me win a lot of battles.
Ah, I never tried llama and vulture combo but Look at vulture man, last stand made him even more powerful.
