An Outsider Can Now Join Modern Battles

Hello, there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

With my most recent season report, I briefly talked about the recent updates that were added to the game. One of which are the 2 recent modifier additions that the team had added before the start of this season. And modifiers are one of the things that brings depth to the game by adding set of rules that changes the winning condition of every battle. Sometimes, it will bring bonuses that could strengthen both teams, while on other occasions, it will bring debilitations that will weaken both of them. Under certain situations, it will even restrict what type of cards each player can use and will even disable some or all of the cards' abilities. So it is not an exaggeration to say that modifiers are sometimes something that a player should be more cautious of, rather than the opponent they were facing.

As I said, there were 2 modifiers that have been added to the game, but in this post, I want to just focus on the Ousider modifier, because I think it can be a fun ruleset that can bring new synergies in modern gameplay.

The list of Splinterlands game modifier keeps on growing. As of now, we have a total of 75 modifiers, including the 5 event limited modifiers. Depending on which league a player is currently competing in, there can be up to 3 active modifiers in play. And now, with these new modifiers in the game, players will once again need to experiment and build new strategies for them to win their battles. Specially with the Outsider modifier, which has the following description:

Ootsider.png

Outsider:
You can summon 1 wild unit.

The modifier's effect is pretty straightforward. Both players can include 1 wild unit in their lineup. This includes any cards from all the previous sets that were no longer playable in modern. The potential impact of this modifier in Modern can be very huge. For example, the Bloodline Dominion mechanics that is mostly used in modern can now have more options by adding Wild cards into their options. Like take a look at how many wild units you can potentially use with the Fire Archon Hanv.

Aside from that, another impact of this ruleset is the slight return of some abilities that were currently sunseted in modern. Units with abilities like Forcefield, Giant killer, and Martyr can now be used when this modifier is active.

About 7 months ago, I made a post about Some Ruleset Ideas I Like To Share and the first ruleset in my list is the one I called "A Wild Last Boss Appears!", and it pretty much was what the Outsider ruleset is. I wont say that the idea is exclusively mine. I think that other players have also suggested this idea to the team on different occasions. There may even be other iterations to the ruleset that i did not think about but the team is planning to implement in future ruleset updates. Regardless, i was happy to think that I was able to provide help to make the game more fun.

Closing

Given that this rulesets were fairly new, I were not able to encounter them that many times yet, and even when I do, I still ended up with picking modern units. I guess that my brain is still just not conditioned yet to use wild cards or maybe that is just the best lineup that i could come up in those situations. Even so, I still think that this ruleset can be really fun to play and experiment with. So maybe, i will try playing it with Challenge matches so it will not reduce my energy.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
