Seasonal Modifiers that Remains in Modern Ruleset Circulation

Hello, there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Game Modifiers in Splinterlands change the conditions of every battle by limiting the cards that you can use, giving different abilities or debilitations, inflicting damage on units, and more. Depending on which rulesets are at play can dramatically influence what cards players will use, as they have to adapt their tactics on the fly so that they can win the battle. So, it is not an exaggeration to say that the Game Modifiers can sometimes pose more of a threat than your opponent.

As time goes on, the number of Game Modifiers in Splinterlands keeps on increasing, which may even bring confusion to any veteran player. There were even some time-limited rulesets that will only come into play during certain times, such as during the holiday season, so it might be gone already before some players can finally get used to them. At the same time, there were also seasonal rulesets that have become a mainstay in ruleset circulation even after the event where the Modifier was introduced ended, and listing those will be the topic of this post.

Seasonal Modifiers That Remains in Modern Ruleset Circulation

As of the moment, Splinterlands has a total of 81 Game Modifiers. This is if we include both those rulesets that were retired from the game for whatever reasons and those time-limited rulesets. Except for Wood League, each league will get at least 1 modifier in battle, and they could go up to 3 rulesets depending on the league that the player is currently competing in. So far, we have 5 of those seasonal rulesets available, but for reasons, some of them have become a mainstay among the regular ruleset circulation.

These rule sets are:

  • Blood Moon

Blood Moon is a temporary ruleset that was added during the Hallow's Fall in November. With this ruleset in battle, all units will gain the Bloodlust ability at the start of the battle, which gives them the opportunity to increase all their stats by +1 every time they defeat their target.

My strategy here is to usually go with a strong tank that can absorb or dodge the opponent team's attacks for a good duration of battle, as I slowly deplete the health of the opponent's units one by one, cause even if my units have weak attack and are not that fast, they could go stronger as long as they were given the time and was able to defeat their target.

  • Dragon's Breath

Dragon's Breath is a seasonal Modifier that comes just after the Hollows Fall as we next celebrate the Dragon's Feast, which is like the Thanksgiving Holiday for Splinterlands. With this ruleset, units that were hit by either a ranged or magic attack will receive the Burning Effect that causes the unit to lose 2 health each turn and has a 33% chance to spread to adjacent units.

Burning can be removed if you have units with Cleanse or Cleanse Rearguard, but if you don't, you can also just bring units to your team that could use Healing abilities so that they can sustain the damage from both the opponent and the Burning effect.

  • Eggceleration

For Eggceleration, all units will gain +1 to all of their stats at the end of each round, making them stronger as the round goes on and was supposed to be a time-limited modifier exclusive for Eggstravaganza season, which is Splinterlands version of the Easter Holiday and was held around March of the year.

During this ruleset, it is preferable to have a team that originally has good stats, as the ruleset will only make their stats stronger as the round goes, but it is also important to note that they should also have a decent amount of health and speed, so that they can sustain the damage they get from the opponent and can attack faster than them since the opponent also becomes stronger as the round goes.

Closing

And those were the Seasonal Modifiers that have become a mainstay in regular ruleset circulation. There was really no explanation for why these rulesets were kept in circulation, but if I had to guess why they kept them, I guess it is because they were fun to have. But now that they have become a part of regular ruleset circulation, what will happen when the next holiday even occurs? Will they bring a different time-limited ruleset, or will they just increase the odds of which of these rulesets will be available in battle?

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
