Winterfest Is Coming To Praetoria

PUM.png

Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Nullwrought.png

In less than a day from now, it will be the end of another season, and as the new season comes, many are waiting for their end-of-season Glint to use it to either buy rarity draws or loot chests. However, for the upcoming season, it's not just Glint that we are going to get because the next season will also be the start of Splinterlands Winterfest event, which not only comes with a new set of festive skins and holiday art, but also with a new seasonal modifier, holiday gift boxes, and a giftable spellbook that you can give to new users.

So, you better watch out, you better not cry, better not pout, Im telling you why: Winterfest is coming to Praetoria.

Splinterlands Winterfest Event

The Splinterlands Winterfest event will start on December 15th, along with the start of ranked battle season 173, and will last until the year ends. Just like the previous event, it seems that there will be an exclusive holiday art for this event, as well as a new battle screen.

Aside from that, we will also be getting a limited-time battle modifier, which will add a new twist to the game, possibly creating new strategies and never-before-seen synergies among the cards. The ruleset's name was Frostbite, which has the following description.

image (2).png

Frostbite

All Units have Weary. Each round, a unit does not attack; it takes 2 true damage at the end of that round.

Units with Weary have a 10% chance to become Exhausted; the chances increase each turn.

So with Frostbite, being one of the active rulesets, all cards have a 10% to become exhausted from Weary that will increase each round, until it reaches 80%, making it more preferable to finish the battle as early as it can be, because if you don't, there will be a chance for your team to lose even if the opponent team is weaker just because your cards won't attack when they need to. At the same time, what makes this ruleset hard to deal with is that the cards that get exhausted will receive 2 true damage, so abilities like Shield won't help to reduce the damage, not to mention Weary is a debilitation that cannot be cleansed, and even cards with Immunity can also be exhausted.

Winterfest New Items

Along with the limited-time battle modifier, there will also be new items that will be available in the Glint shop, some of which are directly purchasable with Glint, while some can be found on the Loot Chests as a jackpot prize, which will require players to be blessed with some luck if they want to collect them. If Winterfest follows the same rules as the previous event, each Jackpot skins will have a 1.5% odds, temporarily replacing potion % and in case the event ends and there are still skins left in the jackpot pool, they will then be burned at the end of the season. That will keep the supply of the skins very thin, and with the in-game market for these skins finally active, the price for them might skyrocket due to the very low supply.

Skins

For the skins, two different skins that will be available in the shop. The Festive Series and the more rare Permafrost Series.

For the Festive Series, there will be 16 different skins that you can have, mostly by directly purchasing them on the Glint Shop, while some can only be acquired through the jackpot chest, which I think will be the skins for Grimbardun Smith and Eternal Tofu, as well as the Legendary reward and Archon Skins.

Meanwhile, for the Permafrost Series, there will be 11 skins that will be available, including a skin for Arkemis the Bear, which is a promo card for the Chaos Legion set. If it follows through the previous event, I believe that the Permafrost Series will only have 10 copies for each skin, making them very rare.

Holiday Gift Boxes

Another thing that will be coming next season are Winterfest Gift Boxes, which contain Packs, Glint, Energy, Credits, Holiday Skins, and Skin Tokens for guaranteed future skins. The prices of each Gift Box range from $5- $100 and can only be purchased with Credits, which raises the question of why even include Credits in the Box when it could be DEC instead, as they were cheaper? Maybe they do not want to increase DEC inflation, but I do not think that it will increase DEC that much. Looking at each of the Gift Box, I think the most worth it to buy was the $25 box, which comes with either 4 Conclave Arcana Standard or 16 Starter Packs, priced at 16,000 DEC or $16 at peg value, as well as the Spellbook Promo Code, which costs around $10. Even though the DEC is at around 30% discount, I think the $25 Gift box is still a good deal, as it comes with 2.5k Credits valued at $2.5, 50k Glint, 60 Fortune Draw entries, 2 Winterfest Skins, and 1 Skin Token.

One thing that I want to add is that these Gift boxes are not exclusive to the buyers to open. They can also use this to gift to a friend or a new player, so if you want to, feel free to send me some Gift boxes.

Spellbook Tokens

I think this is still related to the gift boxes bundle above. These Spelbook Tokens can be gifted to a user with a Lite account so that they can get their Hive keys and earn SPS, but the difference with the usual spellbook is that the player will not get Credits or Packs. Why need a Spellbook token, you may ask? I think a good use case of this is through giveaways. Sure, there are spellbook code, but the problem with that is you might send the wrong code or the code has already been used, unlike if it is a token that you can easily send as long as you know the username of the account.

Closing

And those were the things to get excited about the Winterfest event. 2025 is a year with many ups and downs, but as it ends, I hope that the next year will go more positively. Happy holidays, everyone.

Thank you, and see you on the next post!
