The End of Rewards

avatar

This Splinterlands season has been cray cray!

Does anyone say that still?

This is the first season with the new reward structure and early on and after my cards stopped renting at the last EOS, I played a lot of games and got some focus rewards - like this collection from today. I had to play a lot again as I pushed into Champion 3 a few days ago already, but really wanted to get into Champion 2, which meant re-renting cards.

27 cards:

That is almost 9 dollars for about 12 hours of rental!!
I have cancelled them now.

Because I squeezed into Champion 2

image.png

But it cost me.

image.png

More than the cost of rentals, it was the cost in time. However, most of these games were played when I was ill at home, so it isn't quite as bad as it looks and, I was generally doing other stuff whilst playing - Like finishing Ozark and the new season of Love Death + Robots - the last clip is spectacular by the way.

Better than watching the markets.

I quite like the new reward system and it seems that it has changed the way people play and how much they play for the time being. The cost of renting is much higher now and key cards are very expensive, like the legendary summoners that are 2000 DEC mid-season - which is unheard of! I had to take a Llama and Valnamor at that price - it made me wince. But, at some point, I am not going to be able to compete in champions because the cost to rent key cards will be too expensive and buying them is out of the question at the prices they are going for. This means that unless there are more summoners coming that will level the playing field a little, only the old timers and the diehards will be able to be in the Champion leagues.

That would be a shame.

The other part of the rewards system that came in other than Focus (that affects me) is that rather than getting a set number of loot chests at the end of the season based on which league, they have to be earned by playing, with the "quality" of the contents dependent on the last season's finishing league.

image.png

At the end of season, I will get 55 chests and I finished in Champion 2 last season also, so hopefully I get something better than what I have been getting in the Focus boxes. I have been quite underwhelmed, after playing for so many hours, but it really isn't the reason I play, so it isn't much of an issue.

However, I have never been rewarded with a Gold Foil Legendary.

With things getting crazy at work, at least next season I will go back to limiting how much I am playing and while the prices are up, I will likely rent most of the season and try to get back to Champion 2 in the latter half, if there are any cards to rent that is. If not, I will have to drop back to diamond or something and then, will I still want to play? I like competing at the pointy end, so I am not sure I will continue if relegated due to a lack of appropriate cards - but, we'll see.

Things to think about at least.

As is whether I am going to pick up another node or not. Currently, the price of SPS is in the buy zone, but with everything on the markets dropping based on the latest inflation figures out of the US (probably), I am a little hesitant to buy just yet. If it drops like it did earlier to under 6 cents, I will grab a chunk and hope the price increases before I get the node, so that I end up keeping a bit more SPS. It is risky to wait, though I need to collect more vouchers anyway.

I think that after the week it has been, it is time to get into bed early - well, 2am is early for a Friday night, isn't it?

Night all :)

Way too many games for nothing :)

Also I will disagree about the market. I enjoy looking at the market as it goes down, as I always enjoy shorting. It’s more efficient than going long. Look up any market chart, takes years to go up, months to come down :) efficient to trade the wrong way I say :)

Excellent day at the market today!

Yes - but it was "one of those days"

I have never shorted anything. Don't know how :)

I have, quite a bit, two decades ago. I came to the conclusion that's it's a suckers game and decided never to do it again.

There are basically two ways one can win at it:

  1. "It's a gamble, use gut feeling, enjoy the thrill but box your risk carefully" - if you do it for a while and manage to stop you can get off on top.
  2. "You have priority access to privileged information" - then if you implement correctly you should be able to win big.

But otherwise (no priority access to privileged info AND not keeping in mind the huge risk at all times) you're going to get wrecked, sooner or later (mathematically)

This is what has kept me away from it, as I have seen and heard of many more getting wrecked. I am also not bright enough to keep up with all the information needed to play these games :)

It is 3.30 AM and I am still reading posts on HIVE :) I might thought that the price of SPS would not have dropped as much as cryptos because it was based on a game.

Unlike the cards, SPS is far more liquid, making the price fluctuate more overall - but give it time and it should spring back :)

Renting cards at the end of season was the old tradition, but every day you have to battle for the loot chests for both of the EOS or DAILY FOCUS. As a result the playing has become more compettitive and renting good cards is also crucial if you don't get good cards in loot chest. So, I am not renting too much for my loot chest I don't wnat 15/20 loot chests everyday or 100 at the end of season, it will take long time to get these!!!

I don't want to play so many games, but this was an exception this season. Next season, I think I will play far less.

How have you liked the Focus?

Yeah, it will be tiresome for playing too much! But it is true that the revised reward system needs more struggle than the previous system though rewards are also inspiring, especially for the lower league players like me in Gold league .
And I like the Focus as it is an excellent rewarding mechanism for the regular players and bot farming will be affected badly. And for higher leagues will be more rewarding in terms of the possibility to get more DEC, GF cards, more CL packs, more legendaries and so on. And I have already got 42 loot chest for the seasonal reward chests without playing overtime but I can't manage to get more than 7 loot chests due to time and higher competition in higher rating as my deck is not strong enough and I need to rent the high level summoner and I prefer to chose normal and cheaper one.
May target is to get at least 5 loot chest from DAILY FOCUS and around 60/70 from the seasonal reward! which is a great improvement as previously I used to get only 22 loot chests after the season ends!

Hope you feel better man!

I haven’t been getting any rewards for my daily quests and it’s annoying me. This method totally favors the bots and it’s annoying in many ways. I know the incentive to play more is always on the mind but at one point we have to factor in the people who casually play for fun and don’t get under 80% ECR most of the time. I’m lucky if I get an hour to play so it’s a bit of a pain in the balls to get such shit for rewards despite having bought a lot of stuff in the game.

But I can’t have my cake and eat it too right? I like the different rewards that are out there based on tier and all that. So it’s a toss up but I definitely don’t like the style of focus right now. It wouldn’t be so bad if after the focus finished we started with 10% of the focus chests we had as long as our ECR was over 75% or something. A way to cater to human players over the bots.

I haven’t been getting any rewards for my daily quests and it’s annoying me.

It takes a lot of games. The only way I got so many for this focus, was it was Earth and I happened to get a lot of earth heavy sets with a Llama that helped. Also, because I hadn't played in a few days, my ECR was at 100% and it affects the RP.

The other thing to consider for especially the players who have assets is, should there be so many ways for them to earn? At some point, new players have to have advantages in some areas that the old don't - but at the moment, older asset owners are reaping from all over the place, including the rewards :D

Sounds like a major effort if you're trying to get into the hardcore tiers XD

I'm almost too scared to log in again as I only play long enough to do my dailies, I'm worried that's going to take longer now even at the baby levels that I play at XD

It seems like a major effort! If I didn't play early though, I could have just done the last few days and got into C2 with a couple hundred games instead.

I am starting to like this reward system. With it I have to rent summoners to be competitive but rewards seems to be better. Few days ago I got about 1000+ DEC from focus chests. I hope that season rewards will be great as well.

A mix of breaking bad and a much darker version of Weeds.

Yes, th3 focus chests have been pretty hit & miss.
The best was some 7k of Dec that I added some to the Guild.

Well done to get to Champion.

The changes are good for the sake of change. It forces changes in game approach & opens up some new ideas.

On an unrelated note, I notice more immersion & discussion about the Lore.

I think it would be cool to have secret clickables in different parts of pages, where you find a hidden chest because you were reading the Lore.

Treasure hunts are fun.

I agree. It seems that the disruption has made even experienced players, try different things.

I haven't got into the Lore of it yet - I just don't have the time! But I was thinking about it the other day and how for a lot of diehard gamers, it is very important that there is a story - as it kind of gives them a "why" they are doing it.

Plus some of the writing is good. Even funny sometimes, like the Gladiator card of, Hugo Strongsword...

"They say that Hugo was born with a sword in one hand, which he guided through the birth canal with such innate precision that the first life he saved was his own mother’s."

Just watched it... interesting!
I only have one and looking for a second, but I get vouchers very slowly (comparatively to my impatience)
