Dark Enchantress || SPLINTERLANDS CONTEST WEEK

Hello Everyone!

It's been a very long while since the last post. I've just been so swamped with commission work (which is a good thing) but I've had to buckle down and work.

I've decided to return with another @Splinterlands piece for the SPT contest. An easy choice because I haven't painted or drawn any witch or sorceress art. I decided it would be a standard character portrait to mostly showcase the Enchantress in an 18th and 19th-century style. Honestly, this is mostly a catharsis for haven't done a Lilliana Vess art in such a long while LOLs. but I get to that soon when my schedule opens up or even during commission approvals and feedback.

Reference

The first lady of the Dark Eternals began long ago with the distant memory of a life in Lyveria as a simple farmer’s daughter. She had met the Lord of Darkness, fallen in love and signed the Dark Contract herself. Now she was the Dark Enchantress, all-powerful in magic and the Dark Lord’s true Queen.

Process

In the first instance, I begin with a block out so that I could make out the important shapes and the pose for the character. Following that I established some broad make up for the outfit and the major shapes on the body inside the contours and then I threw in a couple of diffuse values on top.

I established some shadow shapes on the diffuse values and then followed that up by toning the whole picture with some warm highlights and some shadows that have a little bit of violet in them. Following that, I used a color blend layer in order to put a glaze on top of the diffuse and shadows, after that it was just a matter of rendering everything to a finish. For the background, I just put a couple of candles on top of candelabra and establish some kind of background lighting.
