ABOUT THE CARD :
With Chaos Legion edition, the Life splinter got some extra attention towards Ranged monsters courtesy of the summoner General Sloan.
Though General Sloan is not the most powerful summoner with it's Ranged monsters, that does not mean it is not powerful. And Chaos Legion edition has surely provided us with the firepower to compete with General Sloan at the highest levels with Ranged monsters having fantastic synergy and Prismologist, our featured card of the week is one of such cards.
But before we see the card in action, let's have a look into the details and stats of the card.

Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: EPIC
Element: LIFE
Attack: RANGED
Abilities:
Blast
Forcefield
Silence

Prismologist is a 8 mana card that has 3 range damage, 2 speed, 2 armor and 4 hp at level 1.
Additionally, it has Blast which makes the card even more interesting.
At level 4, the card gets it's second ability Forcefield and at the highest level i.e. level 6, the card also has Silence.
At level 3 and above, Prismologist has 4 range damage which when teamed with General Sloan becomes 5 and that means 3 additional damage with Blast which is absolutely insane.
For our today's battle, we will be covering a battle from my alt account where I had rented the all the cards used in the battle except Prismologist which was delegated from my main.

THE RULE SET :

image.png

  • Mana Cap : 36
  • Rule sets :
Counterspell: All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability.
Holy Protection: All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability.
  • Available Splinters :
    Water
    Earth
    Life
    Death

THE LINE UP :

PositionCardManaLevelDescription
Summoner44For this battle, we chose a level 4 General Sloan as the summoner. Though this is the cheapest summoner available, I strongly feel it is way undervalued and will be appreciated when we are out of Chaos Legion packs.
Position 165As our tank, we are playing a level 5 Chaos Knight that comes with 3 melee damage, 3 speed, 3 armor and 5 hp.Though the hp for the card seems low for a tank, it is nicely compensated with the abilities Shield Giant Killer .
Position 235At the second position, we have placed a level 5 Stich Leech with 3 Sneak melee damage, 2 speed and 4 hp. For the cost of 3 mana, this is a great Sneak card specially at level 6 and above when it gets it's second ability of Life Leech
Position 335In the 3rd position, we have placed one of my most used card, Uraeus. The level 3 copy used in the battle has 2 melee damage, 3 speed, 1 armor and 3 hp along with Sneak.
Position 464In the 4th position, we placed a level 4 Pelacor Arbalest. This card deals insane damage when played with General Sloan with it's 2 ranged damage (that gets boosted to 3) with Double Strike.
Position 544In the next position, we are playing a level 4 Venari Crystalsmith with 2 ranged damage, 3 speed and 5 hp. This again is one of the more used card from Life Splinter simply due to it's damage paired with the Tank Heal ability.
Position 681In the last position, we have placed the card of the week, Prismologist. Spoilers : Though we are playing only a level 1 copy of the card, this card is going to be the MVP of the battle.

THE OPPONENT LINE UP :

PositionCardManaLevelDescription
Summoner42For the summoner, the opponent chose a level 2 Obsidian, the go to summoner for heavy magic damage team from Chaos Legion set.
Position 173At the first position, we will be facing a level 3 Pelacor Mercenary with 3 Melee damage, 2 speed, 1 armor and 9 hp. The card also has Flying ability at all levels which is quite decent ability as well.
Position 292In the 2nd position of the deck, we are facing a level 2 Mycelic Slipspawn that comes with 2 magic damage (boosted to 3 by Obsidian), 2 speed and 11 hp. The card is best known for it's ability of Taunt.
Position 331In the 3rd position, the opponent decided to play a level 1 Spirit Hoarder with Triage to support the Mycelic Slipspawn. Additionally it will deal 2 magic damage each turn with Obsidian.
Position 451In the 4th position, we are facing an older Reward card, Spirit Druid Grog that comes with 2 magic damage (boosted to 3) 1 speed and 1 hp. The card's core strength lies in it's ability of Resurrect that alonecan change the course of a match.
Position 541In the 5th spot, we will be facing a level 1 Queen Mycelia, which happens to be one of the best support cards from the Chaos Legion set. At level 1, the card offers 1 magic damage which is buffed to 2 thanks to Obsidian and having 1 speed and 4 hp. More importantly the card will add 2 armors to all alliance monsters with it's Protect ability.
Position 641In the last spot, we have the most annoying monster from Chaos Legion set to face, Doctor Blight. Though, the opponent is only using a level 1 copy of the card, it can still be deadly with Obsidian as it's magic damage gets boosted to 2 and it is having Affliction and Camouflage.

THE HIGHLIGHTS :

  • Round 1:

image.png

In the first round, the first blood was drawn by our star card of the week, Prismologist as it takes out the Mycelic Slipspawn from the opponent deck. However, with Spirit Druid Grog's Resurrect ability it was Resurrected instantly.
Later in the round, Spirit Druid Grog takes out our tank Chaos Knight putting us in the backfoot.

  • Round 2:

image.png

In this round, our Venari Crystalsmith finally eliminates the Mycelic Slipspawn giving us ray of hope.
However, we soon loose our Stich Leech which gets taken out by Queen Mycelia. In the very next turn of the round, we were right back as Spirit Druid Grog kills itself with magic reflect damage with an attack at our Uraeus, thanks to the Counterspell ruleset.
This though was not the last casulaity of this round as we were now down to our ranged monsters only as our Uraeus too gets taken out by the next attack from Doctor Blight.
Things are not looking good for us as the magic damage is destroying our front line at ease and we are now exposed with our ranged attackers who will not be able to attack from the first position.

  • Round 3:

image.png

Situation worsens in this round, as the Prismologist misses it's attack on the Pelacor Mercenary and the Spirit Hoarder takes out our Pelacor Arbalest and we were down to our last two monsters and Prismologist is now the only monster from our deck that can attack as Venari Crystalsmith now a meat shield only at the first position.

  • Round 4:

image.png

In the very first turn of the round, Prismologist shows us it's potential as it gets a double kill from a single hit and simply wipes off Pelacor Mercenary and Spirit Hoarder from the opponent deck.
The opponent deck was now down to Queen Mycelia and Doctor Blight. But, facing 2 magic damage dealers is still a tall mountain to climb for us.

  • Round 5:

image.png

Like the previous, the Prismologist starts off the round with a kill. This time it eliminates Queen Mycelia. Our celebration was cut short as Doctor Blight takes out the Venari Crystalsmith and Prismologist is unable to attack anymore from the first position and the battle seems to be over for us.

  • Round 6:

image.png

Surprisingly, we hang on and the rulesets are working in our favor as we do not intake any damage in this round thanks to Holy Protection and in courtesy of Counterspell Doctor Blight receives 1 magic damage.

And, round 7 turns out to be the lucky round as Doctor Blight kills himself with the magic relect damage giving us the victory.

DID MY STRATEGY WORK?
My strategy was to go heavy with ranged damage and eliminate the opponent deck. The Prismologist had a pivotal role to play in the line up as it's role was not only to to kill the monster from the front line but also remove Holy Protection from the next monster with Blast and in this battle that came in clutch as the magic reflect damage could hurt the opponent and was not negated by Holy Protection.
The reason we placed Prismologist at the last position was to have some extra protection against Sneak with it's armor in case the opponent had any Sneak monsters. Though in this particular battle this was not put to test but this is another use case of the Prismologist to consider when used in battles.
Though, the rulesets favoured us to get the victory in the end and some would consider us to be lucky,
we have to admit, facing magic heavy Obsidian is tough and the opponent had a very solid deck with very strong cards and we would have lost the battle it the rulesets were something else.
The Prismologist nevertheless was the star of the battle getting 4 kills in total and got us the victory.

Do I like the Prismologist? Why or why not?
I love the Prismologist and I play it quite often in higher mana matches.
Along with the high ranged damages the abilities Blast Forcefield Silence are absolute game changers.
Though I only own a few level 1 copies of the card and do not have enough to level her up, I do plan on buying a higher version of the card once I have enough funds.
