Is buying packs worth it?

Ever since the untamed packs sold out, I have been trying to accumulate as many untamed monsters as I can. I believe that in the months/years ahead, some of these cards will be pretty expensive and scarce.

In my bid to build for the future, I've been targeting mostly common and rare cards with abilities that make them a dead certainty to be expensive. Monsters with opportunity, sneak, scavenging, and healing ability are my main target.

Rolling the Dice

I decided to take a break from this accumulation to focus my attention on increasing my stock of Dice monsters. Dice monsters are a unique bunch of monsters that are already expensive now, so you can be certain they have an even higher value in the future.

Due to the price of DEC, I have often wondered if it is worth it to even buy packs, rather than cards. For example, the last two times I bought Dice packs and opened them, the rewards I got inside were valued at $0.69 and $1.32. That's a far cry from the 2880 DEC or roughly $2.88 I spent on each pack.

So on the surface of it, buying dice packs feels like throwing money into the bottomless pit. However, assuming I had enough funds to buy say, 100 Dice packs, things would be a lot different because then, the chances of finding a legendary card inside would be very high.

On the flip side of this, there's still the case for buying packs. It is an indirect benefit of buying packs and I am talking about airdrops.

To give you perspective, the last airdropped Dice card was worth about $25 on arrival. That's reasonable profit, especially considering that I've actually received other airdrops for 78 Dice packs I had purchased at the time.

When new cards are launched in the Dice side of town, you stand a higher chance of getting them based on the number of packs you've bought. So in essence, the higher your dice pack purchases, the higher your chances of getting the airdrop.

Gunning for the airdrop

I am trying to get or at least put myself in a favourable position to benefit from the next airdrop, so that's the main reason I'm buying packs. Also, I don't have any liquid available to invest into buying DEC, so I'm accumulating the old fashioned way.

So far, I have been able to buy 2 packs this season. With slightly less than 3 days to go in this season, I think I did pretty well for someone slugging it out in the Diamond 3 league. The season still has some way to go and I'm close to buying another pack with my DEC from battles; its a slow burner approach but at least it's progress and that's all that matters.
