New Friends From The Rebellion

Hello, Splinter fans!

In this brand new Splinterlands article of mine, I'm going to take a look at the new Rebellion cards, how to use them in upcoming battles, which cards they could perhaps replace and which ones they could work with. Also, I'm going to make my (un)educated guesses on their future value!

Let's go!

ANASTH SOOTHSAYER

First of all, it took me some time to find out to which rarity class the monsters belong. After a while, I found out that the rarity symbol is located on top of the card. This can also be figured out by looking the their power.

So, Anasth Soothsayer is clearly a Rare card of the Water Splinter. As I am still on a shoestring budget, I'm very interested in the lower levels(1-4) and what kind of abilities and stat increase upgrading to those will bring to the table.

A single card already comes with a very useful Cleanse and after combining 5 cards we would receive the Blast ability.

In Noxious Fumes ruleset battles I have used River Nymph with my Water deck to battle against Poison and to help my tank unit. If you allow this comparison, I would say Anasth Sootsayer could very well replace Nymph or at least be an excellent alternative in higher mana battles.

StatsAnasth Soothsayer (LVL2)River Nymph (LVL2)
Mana64
Attack11
Speed43
Health53

Based on these stats I would probably still be using River Nymph in lower mana battles and why not in higher mana ones too as the mana difference would allow me to choose a card like Ice Pixie to tag along with Nymph at the cost of Sootsayer.

Then again, that Blast will certainly add some extra value to decision-making. I use magic monsters with Blast a lot and don't want to use Flagulon Reine as an example here cos he's too superior but perhaps Riverboat Captain is a better one.

Another monster retired by Anasth Soothsayer?

Yeah, we could actually think that Anasth Soothsayer on lower levels is kind of a River Nymph + Riverboat Captain at the same price as the Captain(6 mana). However, Riverboat Captain's +2 magic attack(especially with Alric) still makes him a valid choice for normal circumstance battles. All in all, Cleanse is an ability for some special occasions in my opinion.

Price Speculations

River Nymph is currently one of the cheapest Rare Water cards on the market valued at $0.05. However, to my knowledge, Rebellion cards are more scarce than Chaos Legion edition ones so it's hard to believe the Soothsayer price to fall that low.

Also, the new Staking mechanics of Rebellion cards and the fact that Soothsayer will receive more abilities when upgraded will surely make it a much more desired card.

My prediction:

$0.30 - $0.50

Moxian Rebel

Now this one I'm super excited about! Moxian Rebel is a Neutral unit with a Weapons Training ability meaning adjacent monsters will receive full magic attack power of her.

One obvious strategy would be to pair her with Obsidian to maximize the magic power but no, no... I have other plans!

Yes, you guessed it. I'm gonna use her with Alric Strombringer to fill some gaps in my strategies.

I already have another Weapons Training unit to support my Water Magic team, legendary Kulu Mastermind, but the issue with this monster is it being a Melee unit. This means that unless it's some kind of a special occasion such as Melee Mayhem, the weapons trainees will usually be idle somewhere in the middle or in the back.

Since magic units can attack from anywhere, I wouldn't have that problem with Moxian Rebel and we could happily attack from anywhere!

And I do have some great candidates for the Weapons Training program:

  • Merdaali Guardian - a tank healer unit would now also become a serious threat offensively with Moxian Rebel and Alric as she would be dealing +2 magic attacks.
  • Gelatinous Cube - this idle thing has the Scavenger making it an excellent choice for Earthquake and Noxious Fumes battles. Place it somewhere in the back and watch it deal magic damage until the end. Awesome!
  • For lower mana battles I would consider teaming up Chaos Agent or/and Creeping Ooze.

As for Moxian Rebel herself, she will be receiving Phase and Camouflage abilities when upgraded. These will both come in extremely handy as she doesn't have that much health or armour.

Price Speculations

It's really difficult to predict a future price for Moxian Rebel since there aren't Weapons Training units for sale yet so it's hard to tell how high players value this ability. However, being a Neutral and Magic unit, Moxian Rebel has that star quality and perhaps she could become something like a cult hero.

My Prediction:

$0.50 - $1

Runeseer Sevaya

Last but not least is a no-attack Dragon unit with many interesting abilities. Runeseer Sevaya starts with Cleanse and Protect abilities making her a valuable asset even on the first level.

Runeseer.jpeg

As we start to stack up those cards, Runeseer will also receive Blind, Repair, and finally the Amplify ability.

I don't even know where to begin! Cleanse and Protect make her a crazy good supportive unit but it's the Repair and Amplify that make this one a game changer.

For example, imagine a Noxious Fumes battle and Djinn Chwala as your tank unit. Now, Runeseer Sevaya would first add to Djinn's armour with Protect, she would then cleanse the Djinn making it immune to poison, and when the armour would start to wear off, Runeseer would be there to repair it too! Oh, and don't forget the extra damage the opponent melee monsters would suffer when attacking amplified Djinn who has Thorns!

Now this wasn't my plan but when writing this article I got an idea, what if we add Moxian Rebel here to make the peaceful Runeseer a killing machine with Weapons Training? We could even use an old summoner called Delwyn Dragonscale to boost this idea with his +1 magic buff.

I'm quite sure this epic monster will be extremely desired to own.

Price Speculations

There aren't many cards this one can be compared to, there aren't even that many epic Dragon cards in the whole game. One epic unit starting with two abilities is Wave Brood which is currently costing $0.65 on the market.

Even though Wave Brood is a quite popular card, I would guess the future value of Runeseer will exceed that.

My Prediction:

$1.5 - $2

Conclusion

Among other already introduced new monsters in sneak peeks, the three were the ones that first caught my eye and gave me these lethal fantasies. They also gave this familiar feeling of FOMO and I'm now thinking about adding some Rebellion packs...

As I mentioned, the new staking for airdrop mechanics will surely add to the value of Rebellion cards at least for the first 9 months when the staking is on. The new system will encourage players to upgrade their cards as there are only 5 card slots on each Battle Wagon.

Considering this, and the fact that staked cards can be used in gameplay, suggest that there will probably not be too much supply on the market and this will then drive the Rebellion card prizes up at first.

At what levels the prices will eventually settle will definitely be interesting to see as the card market is now starting to show signs of recovery.
