Someone's been putting in legwork on this.

A search for "splinterlands twitter" yields these results:

Hive is back in the news.

Not in the way you'd expect!

This Twitter ban may end up helping us a little more than it hurt us. Funny how that works out eh? Same thing happened during the hostile takeover. We get attacked but somehow we can generate value from the attack. So weird... books will be written about concepts like this, as they are completely alien and can only happen within the cryptoverse.

The policy states, “You may not use our service for any unlawful purpose or in furtherance of illegal activities. This includes selling, buying, or facilitating transactions in illegal goods or services, as well as certain types of regulated goods or services.”

The breach is unclear because the corporation does not sell financial goods, is a game platform, and does not create secondary marketplaces for its items that are supervised by the community. Even yet, with no prior notice from the platform of any infractions, it’s difficult to say whether they were the culprit, especially given the large number of other users engaged in similar behavior.

When Splinterlands got banned I also checked their terms of service to see what the issue could be and found this same vague rule. It's clearly the one they are going with but with no warnings or explanation it becomes highly suspicious, which may be why so many news outlets have picked it up.

Though entirely speculative, Chris Roberts, Splinterlands’ Content Director, pointed out the troublesome timing in a post published on Peakd. The company’s account ban corresponded with a same-day decision by Twitter to unveil its lineup of NFTs for sale to its 60 million followers, making the suspension either a little suspect or tone-deaf.

This seems like one of the big reasons the story was picked up by so many outlets. The timing of the ban was ridiculous and clearly a conflict of interest. Twitter is publicly gatekeeping and the corruption is getting worse to the point of absurdity.

Members of the Hive blockchain community are no strangers to this type of censorship, and they are well equipped to not only survive it, but use it as an opportunity to grow their platform and attract even greater attention.

Splinterlands is built on Hive, the decentralized and censor-resistant blockchain that is also home to multiple platforms like Peakd.com, a haven for bloggers who may otherwise be a target for censorship on mainstream social media platforms. On the Hive blockchain, creators can share content for rewards in cryptocurrency with no looming threat of restriction.

The Splinterlands gaming platform was built atop the Hive Blockchain, a decentralized and censor-resistant blockchain that is also home to multiple platforms like Peakd.com. The Hive Blockchain and Peakd.com are particularly becoming popular amongst bloggers, as the platforms discourage the censorship of content or users in comparison to traditional social networks.

The incessant censorship of contents by big tech social media has stirred the clamor for more blockchain-backed censorship-resistant social networks. While these are yet to gain traction, there is an expectation that the blockchain revolution is billed to extend to the area in the medium to long term.

highlighting once again the need for more censorship-resistant platforms, like Hive Blockchain and Peakd.

Seriously? Wow.

So Hive is back in the news, and we get glowing recommendations and free advertising for the entire network. Thanks Twitter, ya dicks!

Shadow bans

What we have to remember about Twitter and other social media companies is that every time they outright ban or suspend someone they are going to employ shadow-ban techniques ten times more often to avoid the blowback.

For example, how do we know Twitter isn't throwing a bunch of the #Hive people into an eco-chamber where we get very little exposure to the larger network? There are some tools to check if you've been overtly shadow-banned, but at the same time Twitter knows how those tools work and have likely created even more ways to segregate communities that are untraceable.

Divide and Conquer

That's just the way it is it seems.
The thirst for control, power, and data continues.
Business as usual.
However, Hive seems to be breaking barriers.
Be on the lookout and ever vigilant.

Twitter will get a bite of its own poison in time as more decentralize micro blogging platform will rise. Hopefully Project Blank will be launched this year, that would be great!

That is cool that Hive got so much good press. Hopefully it pays off for us in spades. It seems that people are still hesitant and set in their ways. It is going to take some time for them to make the move.

Oh shit!

To think that few days ago, I have been encouraged to start using my Twitter account to share my contents on hive, and promote hive as well

Now, they are shadow-banning Splinterlands? This censorship is rather uncalled for

I mean what are they afraid of? That we will outperform them?

Of course, they should be because, Hive is out to do a lot more than outperforming all of the social media platforms who are bias in their decision making

We will break those Barries, and it will be to their faces.

This will have a negative effect as creation of awareness through twitter has been disconnected. But i believe a little bit of under ground work will help

Was the first thing I thought upon discovering this.. the fact that they care enough to ban the account means splinterlands is doing something very right to get that attention. However I was thinking it would be good for Splinterlands specifically but wow, a lot of free press for hive and its tribes in general that's gold. Way ro go twitter hehe

Political voices and unpopular opinions are not the only thing that gets kicked to the curb. Entertainment and artists (including those in the game industry); we've known all along what it's like, and it started long before social media. I've known and even demonstrated for years Hive is the place for unrestricted creativity. It's unfortunate twitter and whatever else that wants to be a dick has to be like this, but history dictates, especially in entertainment, if you knock something down, it's just going to rise up ten time faster. Burning records doesn't stop the sound.

Amazingly, our "permanent suspension" was mysteriously lifted this morning not long after these stories came out. I guess "permanent" in this case was used to mean the exact opposite, in the same way that people say things like "he literally carried the whole team on his shoulders"...

Permanent unless revoked is how I run the discord I moderate too with like 8k people, but unlike jerkoff twitter we actually allow people to send us appeals that we then actually read and consider, which is how folks get their otherwise permanent bans revoked.

perfect. You could maybe think about leveraging it with some paid press releases too. IMO it shouldn't damage at all, because it looks like a newsworthy event

Hears the ban has already been lifted. Good news, but still the absence of a solid explanation for removal in the first place is extremely troubling. Can't say am surprised though, but it is a real jerky move

What a great PR storm for Splinterlands! This is a great story and they obviously did a good job promoting it.

haha, nice

Well if Twitter is banning Splinterlands to stifle competition of its NFT release then I can't see any negative towards that. After all it is a centralised platform that is basically a law in its own and people that use it are at their mercy to do as they please.

It's none government, and only answerable to themselves and their stake holders. Which are their shareholders not the public that use it.

It's a dog eat dog world and Splinterland is not really a stake holder of the platform.

No power.
No pressure.
And no chance to cancel a platform that pretty much is the cancel culture central to begin with.

Plus we here have this high and mighty standard that anything resembling Twitter is downvoted, because "it does not show enough value."

"It's a social media platform that has rules that outline you have to post a thousand word pieces in order for the sticklers to allow you to exist here."

"Hive Police that constantly raise a standard that clearly only benefits them."

Clearly we can see what stake holding allows one to do. The only solution to anything resembling social media and freedom is to have a stake in the system you want to use. No stake? No steak.

Hive being made out to be the good guys by the mainstream crypto-media?

You love to see it.

The coverage across a number of news sites has been great to see.

Also...

Whoever is using the DAO to pay for those really uninspiring Hive press releases, this is a glimpse into what actually works.

dApps/communities are the key to our overall Hive marketing effort.

They offer a narrative that readers can relate to, so why not use them?

Jacks’s bots are out of control. When you rail against Splinterlands you will get splinters.👾 Meanwhile, we keep stacking our chips on Hive while big tech users get their data sold to the highest bidder.

We should leverage it. Some whale could maybe sponsor a campaign above it. Could be worth it.

I am so far behind on the news but its nice to see HIVE and Splinterlands on the news. I read the comments below and it looks like they got reinstated on Twitter but the issue I see is that there are no real good uncentralized social medias right now. I am hoping Project Blank changes this.

Great seeing hive getting all the free advertising for all this. Twitter seems to be doing us all favour. I expect Twitter to continue the fight but the more the attack, the more attention we get.

As I said before in one of the related posts, there is no such thing as bad publicity, any news, no matter how small, can serve as a springboard for Hive.

I'd say Twitter learned their lesson and will stick to shadow banning. I'm really telling you guys we need to take a look at TikTok for promotions: https://leofinance.io/post/@d-zero/marketing-talk-why-tiktok-will-matter-more-than-youtube-and-twitter

TikTok is a Chinese govt spy tool.

Yep! That's true. American big tech is part of government spying too. We need to use these websites/apps to onboard more people to the decentralized more private competitors. It doesn't hurt to use the enemy's platform to get users there on to Hive/LEO etc.

I’m glad to be a part of something Twitter feels to be a threat! Gonna keep everything I can that offends those centralized snowflakes. Hopefully a Fakebook ban is coming soon too! Lol
