Tuesday: Cutoff Date to Survey your Plots or Start Losing SPS Rewards

If we look at Praetoria's map right now, we see claiming land reached 120 out of 150 regions.

This is really good, considering before Land 1.0 (Surveying) was rolled out and @jarvie's proposal passed, we were still in the Land of Prosperity (40-60s range, approximatively).

But still, we have 30 regions unclaimed, and some of them will probably remain like that. It's been well over 2 years since the presale for land, and I wouldn't exclude the possibility that some big whales even forgot they purchased land on Splinterlands, and haven't followed through.

I'm curious how much land will remain unclaimed in the end, if it's less than 10 regions I'd say it's a huge victory for Splinterlands and for the Land Expansion. Even 15 would be a good result I believe.

Anyway, starting from Tuestay (after the maintenance), this unclaimed land won't be eligible for SPS rewards. Even more, those who have claimed their land but don't survey it by that time, will also lose their land SPS rewards until the time when they survey their land.

This is the reference to the Tuesday maintenance window when SPS rewards will be switched to surveyed land only (this fragment is part of another proposal that consults SPS stakeholders on modifying land SPS rewards according to the Land 1.5 whitepaper):

This is obviously a bad thing is you haven't claimed or surveyed your land and won't do it by the time this change goes in effect. Although, if you do it at a later time, you will only lose the land SPS rewards you would have received in the meantime, so it's not the end of the world.

At the same time, this is a good thing is you surveyed your land, as the land SPS reward pool will be shared among fewer players/investors, so the rewards per surveyed plot will grow.

For land owners, in particular, especially if they don't follow recent news.

Surveying is a mandatory step to ensure that SPS rewards will keep coming your way for the land held. But now I see that Splinterlands is pushing that further and next you'll get the rewards only if you are working the land. I think they are trying to get even the last penny that you have with such initiatives pushing the play to pay and pay and pay. I start seeing the fairness of this play2earn game fading if their strategy will continue to take as much as possible from existing user base, while trying to get new users in the game and use those funds for covering the costs.

This was announced from the start and it makes sense only to receive rewards if you work the land. Plus, the reward pool remains the same. And all those rewards go to players, not to Splinterlands.

This has nothing to do with new users. Most of them don't have land and this shouldn't concern them. The reward pool for land SPS rewards will be the same and distributed daily, no matter what, only the composition of those receiving them will change from passive to more active users in the game (all having land).

I wouldn't be surprised and two years is a long time. Some of them may have quit Splinterlands and they might still have the land or some may have also lost their keys. Also, I hope Tuesday's maintenance isn't as long as the previous one that pushed land 1.0.

Yeah, a lot can happen in 2 years in crypto. Plus, with many distractions, some may have even forgotten about their investment in Splinterlands.

Also, I hope Tuesday's maintenance isn't as long as the previous one that pushed land 1.0.

Depends on what else they push in Tuesday's maintenance window.

It's actually more games in one. The base game, from where they started, is a trading card game. Players battle each other in different similar game modes (ranked battles, brawls - this is team play, tournaments). To fight, teams of 1 summoner + monsters are selected to fight the opposing team based on the game ruleset and the strategy chosen. The last standing wins. If no player has cards alive at the end of the fight, it's a draw (quite rare).

The Land Expansion - about which I've talked in the post - is practically a different game that is or will be linked to the base game. It is what is called a resource management game. The aim is to generate more resources, trade them, upgrade buildings, etc. And earn rewards while doing that.

I talk about what is Splinterlands more extensively here.

If you decide to check out the game, I'd appreciate it if you use my referral link. And ask questions, if you have them.

Thanks for the update @gadrian.
I'm not surprised about how well the land is doing.
I bet it will be very successful!
Have a great weekend!

I think it will be. And not only for the land game, but for the entire Splinterlands.
