New Chaos Legion Plans... Buying in Gradually!

The pre sale plans for Chaos Legion were somewhat different to what I had been expecting.

The price increase was greater than I'd anticipate -

at $4 a pack these are now twice as expensive as the Untamed packs, however this is understandable given how much card values have increased and I don't think this increase is at all unreasonable, it sounds 'about right'.

The real shock for anyone who hasn't got a deck worth more than half a million dollars already is the voucher system.

You will need vouchers to buy packs in the pre-sale: one voucher pack and one million vouchers are to be dropped on SPS holders daily for a month, relative to their SPS stake.

I was lucky enough to catch the announcement post early and so immediately bought an additional 12K SPS with some of the funds I had put buy for Chaos Packs. I bought most of this at around 27 cents and it's since increased to the mid 30 cents range.

Now, with 42K SPS staked, I will be dropped around 400 tokens, which will just about allow me to get into the mid tier bonus level if I buy another 100 vouchers to bring my pre-sale purchase up to 500 packs.

Vouchers, of course, are going to be tradable, and so anyone who wants a large buy-in during the pre-sale is going to have to pay the whales for vouchers.

I'm basically OK where I'm at - I'm set to be able to get a decent buy-in of 500 packs, buying another 100 vouchers is going to hurt, but it's only a 20% top-up so that's not too bad.

Now staking AND pooling most of my SPS......

I'm holding off selling any SPS or DEC for at least a couple of weeks - and part staking the SPS, part pooling with the DEC I earn from rentals, as there's still a very decent return in SPS from the drop to DEC.

And buying in packs more gradually than I'd planned.....

I had planned to buy $10Ks worth of Chaos packs in the pre-sale, but I'm now NOT doing that - I'm not going to pay someone for vouchers just to get in early, I'd rather just buy in batches as the packs are released over the coming year - I imagine that if I hold and pool most of my DEC earnings and stake most of my SPS I should be able to hold my level for future voucher drops and be able to buy in batches of 500 until I reach that $10K target, or I might stop at $8K.

I might buy more, but this is crypto, and I don't want to predict what's going to happen 4 months down the line, we will see!

Farming for stables.....

I've got to be sensible about how I use my Splinterlands Investment, I am NOT going to play the game where I get steered into holding and buying in more and more and more.

I am going to make sure I farm off at least some of what I earn, probably starting in two week, I might leave it a month depending on what happens with my share of the SPS drop.

But at some point before the end of October I want to get back to farming off around 30% of my DEC and SPS earnings for stables like I was doing in the early days of the airdrop.

SPS and LAND thoughts....

Just a quick thought - I think this very tight ratio of SPS - Vouchers is really setting the scene for LAND - If 40k SPS is barely enough to satisfy my pack-purchase desires at this stage, I'm almost certainly going to need a much higher stake to manage a TRACT of land - no doubt there is going to be a pre-sale on items linked to that too!

I think SPS is where it's at going forwards for Splinterlands!

You're in a nice position. Its as a newb because I'm not sure how to take advantage of my assets. I don't plan to play higher than bronze so but would like to benefit from being here before the drop. I will only have about 300 sps and 30,000 DEC at drop time so I probably wont get much.

Having said that I wonder if I should convert my dec to sps or use my extra hive to buy either dec or sps. I don't have much but I would like to be in the token that has the most value for me.

actually you need to go at least up to silver, for better results and 2 chest for daily quest instead of 1, so you will develop twice as faster. rent of buy cheap cards to go there.

Definitely aim for silver level. East to achieve with a couple of rentals and your account will start to grow a lot faster with sps and reward cards.
I like fire and water at low levels. Quick and easy to win.

Any word on what the promotional free card is for presale buyers of 50 packs? I've heard it's a summoner, is that true?

Awesome overview of the CL presale hype! I am also not going to go all-in at once. Because I would like to buy a piece of land too. So maybe 100 CL Packs during the presale and then a LAND from Hive-Engine. Will have to see how much these vouchers would cost once the first day of drop happens.

SPS is going to be a very crucial asset going forwards so I am trying to maximize my airdrop points by investing in DEC.

LAND could go crazy so maybe not a bad idea!

Amazing how people are holding and there's no hype about that at all!

I wouldn't sell SPS if you don't have to. If Axie is any reference it could go to 10$ no problem

Bye bye my dream of getting the Legionnaire title... unless they'll count purchases made after the presale as well. I'll probably aim for 500 as well. And that's because of the voucher limitation, otherwise I would have gone for 1000.

There might also be a sort of phycological game. Because there are only 1m packs in the presale, and vouchers will be drip-dropped. So they won't go right away, but you can't know when they go either, because people might amass vouchers for the extra bonus of buying in bulk.

I think they'll be pretty hot property those vouchers!

Yup! I'm curious who will sell in high enough quantities to satisfy even partially the demand.

Yeah, i noticed, all those pesky SPS seems to be the key to be succesfull in the future. but there is no way to get the 2000 packs for the max bonus. not without paying it dearly.

Wow, 500 packs is a nice bit! As for me, I'm thinking just 50 packs, for which I'll need to have 5K SPS accordingly. My currently held 1K SPS is worth $350 USD, so I should still buy another $1,400 USD in order to get those 50 vouchers for the packs I'll still have to pay for with SPS. Putting it this way, the offer of "free cards" stops feeling attractive any longer, even despite the certainty that it will be worth it in the end.

It's just the way the gamify it - keep people buying more and more and more, they're very good at it!

I'm with you, the pricing and voucher access is all a bit more... expensive... than I was expecting/hoping for. Not a problem for me but I'll also likely wait until packs are fully available. IDK, those presale rewards will have to be really good to justify how expensive vouchers might get.

I think those vouchers are going to be worth a small fortune!

Damn, yes, the price hike! And the vouchers! I've been trying to read as much as I could and was also waiting for your post, trusting you will share your ideas as always :D

I'm thinking now: I will wait till the last moment to buy packs, hoping (FINGERS CROSSED!) I will get 100 vouchers airdropped if I include those I still get during the 4 week pre-sale.

1 million vouchers for 1 million packs available, so there's no reason to buy before November 17th as far as I know. (Or you must want to maximize SPS airdrop because the bought packs will count for 300 airdrop points, so there's that.)

I am also trying to not add too much 'outside money' into the game, I actually even want to try to buy all the packs with SPS, IF one week before the end date I will have my 100 vouchers I might unstake SPS for one week, and buy with that: I will get the 10% discount from buying with SPS plus the 10% bonus packs from buying 100 in a single transactions.

So yeah - there's my 'strategy' but a lot of it comes to this: WILL I MAKE IT TO 100 VOUCHERS IN TIME!?

Haha.

Maybe buy some more SPS as long as they're below 0.50$ or so ;-)

It's a tough one for me, I was in cash-out mode then I came to my senses and realised nothing else is giving me a 200% return like the SPS drop for DEC.

I'm actually piling in more of my stables into this, going the other way.

Once I've got my packs I'll then start taking something out again.

It's a tough one, just hodl and stack.

I think I might buy all in one go at the end, for that discount!

Rather brilliant in regards to creating value for creating value for SPS, however, the game is slowly becoming really expensive for new players.

The same as every other medium player. How to get enough sps for vouchers to buy 1k to 2k packs?

Im hoping that at $4 some of the larger accounts would rather sell than whale in again but that might just be wishful thinking. They will probably do the exact same again.

I can't see selling vouchers being that popular! If they go for less than $3 a pop I'll be amazed.

A voucher is only worth getting in on the presale and to most small accounts that is nothing. I think you will pick them up for less than a dollar as the days wear on. Not many people will be willing to pay big just to get in a small bit earlier. Unless the perks are very good.

SPS and DEC are both on the rise again price wise. DEC more so as I think people are thinking they can not only build up supply of DEC ready for the new packs, but also earn more SPS per day in the airdrop. If that's what they are doing it's not a bad idea.

Vouchers are going to make this pre-sale interesting, I feel like people will be changing plans as they go along as who knows how much these Vouchers will sell for. If everyone is trying to hold onto them then the price could be high, or if people see them as a quick way to make some money before the Chaos Legion officially launches. We could well see the price for them to be low.
Just to throw another spanner in the works the Vouchers will be able to be kept for future uses unlike previous vouchers. This could see whales holding onto them just incase they need them later. After all like you said Lands are coming up and who is to say they will not be needed for lands.

One thing is for sure SPS is becoming very valuable and even just to play some tournaments now you need to have x amount of SPS staked. Who knows what the future price of SPS could be. At the moment the airdrop is actually working to keep the price of SPS some what down but the more use cases it has the higher that price will rise I feel.

Anyways thanks for posting it was a great read.

I just bought $1000 worth of DEC SPS thinking I may as well get it now - I can't see it going down before I buy my packs.

I thought the vouchers would be useless after the presale, these particular ones at least?

Smart move, a gradual investment makes more sense in your circumstance as trying to rush in will cost a decent amount extra due to needing vouchers. I have similar plans for presale as you (Our SPS staked is similar).

For general sale its likely I sell all my early vouchers. I highly suspect that the voucher system will be removed sooner rather then later. I hate to even say this but there is a decent chance the vouchers become too big of a detterent for new users and boosters sales slow down more then expected. Forcing the hands of the devs to remove the voucher system earlier then they would of liked.

My strategy is a gamble of the voucher system failing / being less succesful then anticipated. It also allows me collect boosters for "FREE" or at the very least collecting boosters while not spending any of my current currencies.

I guess with selling it all depends on whether the price you get outweighs the benefits of the drop for a month or so on the packs you'd be holding and/ or cards you'd be renting.

Personally I'm buying as many as I can, packs that is!

Price we get for vouchers + value of the booster itself (once sold out on official site) vs. airdrop points. I admit its a close call as there is HUGE potential for SPS to sky rocket in value. My thoughts are as followes. We see UNTAMED being sold for $40+ USD and those were originally $2.00 each. With boosters now costing double + whatever a voucher is worth I can see CL boosters going for upwards of $50-$100 each almost directly after official print runs out. If vouchers are near the price of a booster itself that means my 400 monthly vouchers will eventually give me 400 "free" boosters.

EX. (Using my numbers) If the voucher system is in place for just four months that would mean I would have 1600 Boosters on month five for free. Actually more then that due to bonuses. With just using the base number of 1600 and using the low end price of $50 a booster that's $80,000 added to my networth with little risk to me. Of course this assumes that Splinterlands continues to be successfull. I still might not do the above but its one of the frontrunners for what I plan on implementing. I do like my SPS, such a hard decision.
