Not quite a Splinterlands report

Anyone interested in Splinterlands at the moment?

A short journey in

A month or so ago, I caved into peer pressure and bought Splinterlands card packs to speculate on the price and two weeks ago, I opened some of them and started playing, as well as benefitting from card delegations from generous friends, as well as some tips along the way. This means that while starting from scratch, I wasn't exactly starting from scratch either.

bunny.jpg

I am still a bunny, but I played 412 battles and won 210 of them, giving me a win percentage of just over 50%. I have "wasted" a lot of time trying to work out the game and strategies, which was also a lot of fun. I was talking about the game to a friend today and saying how one of the main reasons I started playing was to stretch my thinking processes a little after having a stroke 6 weeks ago, as it makes me do some simple but relatively quick calculations in my head, other factors in the game, like attributes of speed, power, attack etc, as well as the strategy in general and the types of games. This isn't always easy for me to do, especially on a timer.

Note: I have just found out that 412 rounds is a lot to paly in one season :D

So here are my stats so far:

image.png

And in the last and my first season, I managed to reach the Gold II League. I don't know what is good or bad in this regard, but I am guessing that if I really had to start from scratch with small money spent, I wouldn't have got anywhere near as far.

image.png

So, what have I spent?

Well, this is a bit of a tricky thing to workout, as I don't really know all of the bits and pieces, but I do remember the major ones.

10 signup
200 for 50 odd DICE on H-E
400 for 204 UNTAMED on H-E
~540 dollars (at the time) 110 DICE in-game = 300K DEC/1650HIVE
120 in potions in-game

I might be forgetting some small things, but this is about 1270 dollars worth spent in the last month or so on Splinterlands.

Investment potential?

The value of my collection:

image.png

Just a few moments ago, I decided to open the 40 DICE that I had left on Hive-Engine (I sold 10 the other day) so I could see what the difference in value was. The other 110 I have, I am holding in-game to get an airdrop or something later - I am not sure.

Value before opening:

image.png

Value after opening:

image.png

Granted, I bought about 30 dollars in potions also, but that is a 50% gain in seconds. Considering I paid 4 dollars a pack for them, that is 160 dollars buy value, turned into 770 a couple weeks later.

New value of my collection:

image.png

The next thing to consider and something I didn't have any idea about earlier, is that there is a 365 day airdrop of the SPS token, which is able to be sold or staked daily. I suspect that at least for some time to come, this is going to fluctuate in value quite a lot, but at the moment, I am getting about 50 SPS a day with a spot price of about 44 cents each.

image.png

In a hypothetical world where the price stayed at that rate, it would take about 6 weeks of airdrops to cover the total investment I have made in the last month. There are obviously quite a few people out there receiving massive amounts of these tokens and since most would have bought in early, they are possible clearing their initial investments in a matter of days, especially since the Splinterlands marketcap value has gone parabolic in recent months.

Still potential to come?

As far as I understand, there are a lot more things in the pipeline coming and as more players start playing the most popular game in crypto, value should increase far more. Not only that, because new assets are being printed, there will be more opportunity for new investors to get in and and gain investment value also.

Not only that, this is a game on the Hive Blockchain and each account created becomes a Hive account and this creates a lot of synergies (I hate that word) in the future, with them all feeding off each other and compounding to create a massive pool of value. This future value will increasingly be used in AMMs and the like to create DeFi products and generate even more value across the entire network. this is what Hive was designed to facilitate, it just takes time to build the industry it needs to align its attributes.

Worth having a look at?

Now, I don't think I am going to do many Splinterlands posts, but I thought this would be interesting for some people to read from an investment perspective, from someone who has been around this blockchain awhile as an investor, but has only just got into Splinterlands as both a player and an investor.

It is very possible that at the same time I was doing this, there were other investors doing the same and getting into Splinterlands for the first time and effectively getting a 400% gain in a month or two and now getting an additional 20+ dollars worth a day of SPS dropped to them, whether they play or not. From an investment perspective, that has to be an attractive return for even people in crypto.

If they are playing as well, they are also getting DEC as rewards and if they are completing the quests and the like, earning more rewards, with the potential to get some decent cards with good values in the mix. All while having fun playing a game.

I was asked what my battle reports might be like - How did I do?

I caved into peer pressure

So True!!! Aggy should pay me! LOL

The other 110 I have, I am holding in-game to get an airdrop or something later - I am not sure.

Again you should open. Since you bought them in game, you already qualify for the airdrop. With only 110 card, don't expect much. The best bang of the buck is now to open them again. Then you can level up some of the summoners and monsters.

Since you will be playing mostly gold league now, you should at least me looking to level up your rare summoners to Level 4, which is essentially Silver level (a league lower).

He kind of does ;D

Oh, I thought I had to hold them! My trainers only give me half the information! ... at this rate, I am going to have to start reading stuff for myself....

Buy potions, and open them. Anything you open now is direct profit. In addition you can really use the cards to level up. Higher the level you play more the rewards.

I will get right on it.

I was meant to write a real post tonight, but this one took me ages to put together....

Yep and now you can RENT out those cards for daily income. The rental market is BEGGING for more cards to be listed... we can't get enough. Therefore if any old hive users are thinking they have some old packs or cards... let's get them on the market. Best interface for that is peakmonsters.com it will help you price them even.

Damn. Thanks! That was on my list of things to mention, but my brain isn't what it was - and it wasn't much earlier :)

I am just trying to work out how to rent myself. I have rented a couple from there already :)

People are renting hundreds and hundreds of cards in minutes and coming back to me and saying that 30 minutes later they're already making 10-20$ a day.

I just put a few dozen for rent - it is pretty good once I got the hang of it. I don't think my deck is going to bring in any dollars a day, but some are renting :)

For @jarvie

I have loads of cards to rent, but I have so far only managed to rent some of my legendaries. But the trouble is the management for someone like me. Right now the tools are fairly rudimentary. My issues:

  1. I can't find easily when a particular card has completed its rental cycle
  2. I can't find easily that 3 days back I rented a 1 BCX Zaku for 30 DEC/day, but now it is renting for 300 DEC/day, and I am potentially losing 10X
  3. I can't filter easily the items that are rented vs. the items that are not
  4. I can't find which card and which levels are empty at the market now

Things like these, if they are added, will be highly valuable

That's why you use peakmonsters... takes minutes we have upgraded certain rental tools in the last couple of days that have doubled people's earnings and cut their time down by a ton. And it's pretty substantial earnings.

All the filters and sorting mechanisms are there for you.

I was talking about peakmonsters :)

I am there nearly 4 hours a day for the last few day :)

Those points were directed at peakmonsters exclusively.

image.png

You see?

for example I like to know which 1000 DEC/day cards I havenn't rented? Can I adjust the price (lower) to rent them quickly?

If you go into PeakMonsters and click on the Bulk View button, and then sort by Listed column on the far right you'll be able to see which cards you've put a rental price on... and the ones without a value on the Delegated To column are the ones that are unrented.

Hope that helps!

I know:)

But that "rented" and "delegated" button doesn't work all the time.

Also there is no way to sort rental are are in the process of being canceled vs rented and active vs not rented but listed.

I have thousands of cards in various forms of delegation and rentals. It's difficult.

Thanks for the reply though. I am quite familiar with the tool. Just suggesting some potential improvements and bug fixes. It's an excellent tool.

Ah sorry... you did mention that you spend hours with the tool so I thought you might know it... but I can't know what you already know so just wanted do make sure.

I also caved in into splinterlands through peer pressure from some of my friends at neoxian city. I got bored playing my account after getting employed at teamshare to play a maxed deck owned by dkid14 but after he sold his deck to use the proceed to venture into a business offline, I just lost interest in the game cos my own account was below max and unappealing to unleash the full potential of the game. The game is best enjoyed at champ league.

Anyways, I am happy that your investment is yielding good dividend even after giving in into peer pressure.

Happy splinterlanding.

I don't mind playing, though I think that my own deck is not overly great. Even though, I don't mind playing at the levels I can :)

The game is still in its early stage. There is so much potential in it.

I am still struggling to get my head around it all, but it is kind of fun to learn something new for me on Hive. :)

I just started playing. I have no idea what I'm doing and most of the investments you mentioned I have no clue about lol. But I too, thought about how learning this game was a good mental exercise. I'm going to have to do a lot of tutorials about strategy. I'm wondering if I should spend a little money. I have about 40 cards from steemmonster packs and that's it.

I am definitely not the one to give advice, but the rental market is good and you can pick up some decent cards cheaply - literally fractions of pennies a day. Once you get an idea of strategy, it might be a good option.

that's a good idea. I really gotta get in there and take a beating for awhile

Sounds like you've absolutely getting the feel for it all. You played a lot of games... but if you click on the Last Season button you'll see that people played SO MANY games in Season 54. It's nuts.

Have you seen this?
https://kiokizz.github.io/Splinterlands/seasonReportCard by @kiokizz?

It'll give you a ton of data from your last season. I love it.

I am getting the feel for it, slowly in my opinion, quickly in some people's :D I have never played anything like this before, so the entire concept is unfamiliar, but it is fun!

I had a look at the tool before writing this, but since I have no idea what most of it means, it was easier and made more sense to just make my own :)

Hahaha, fair.

Basically if you put in your Splinterlands/Hive account name, it will then tell you what your win/loss ratios are, your most played cards, how you went with specific rulesets, etc.

My last post is my version of this report... if that helps... but yeah, it's a lot of data.

Yep. I plugged it all in to have a look, but it would have been a lot of cut and pasting to add this post (which I already had in mind) into it. So, just rolled this way. As it stands, this took me far longer to put together than I thought it would :D

@tarazkp oh yeah...welcome aboard! I think there is so much potential with this game, once the land comes onboard...I think this game and its developers are the premiere NFT/blockchain game. I play a few here and there, and this one has some legs I think.

I don't know what the land stuff is yet - but it seems like it has gone crazy in value over the last month.

I really had a difficult time wrapping my head around the idea of NFTs (and still struggle at times), but I see an immense market for NFTs that fit in games...now it's just a matter of trying to figure out what games will have longevity; I can't see the future of course, but Splinterlands does have an edge over other games, I think - it is the perfect onboard game for collecting NFTs. Not financial advice, of course, lol!

I was asked what my battle reports might be like

it seems that I heard these words before...strange.😜 You did well.

I think that tournaments are awesome. yesterday I was in a huge tournament where entry costed maybe 10 DEC I only won one round and got 5000 DEC(?) reward for that...

But not all tournaments are this good. I tend to avoid the ones that have a high entry cost if I need to finish in very high place to make profit. For me that seems like too big of a gamble. The number of players participating is another factor. Few days ago I was tempted to rent a bunch more golden cards just so I could enter one insane tournament. It only had 27(?) participants so I would likely have won 10000 DEC just by entering. The problem is that I would have needed to get A LOT power to enter. So I thought that it would not be worth it.

Speaking about renting. That is another thing you might want consider in the future. Once you feel more confident in your strategies you could rent golden versions of some of the cards that are working best for you. With golden and/or alpha versions of your monsters you could earn more. And some tournaments don't allow to use normal versions of cards...

I am not the tournament kind of person - especially at my level :)

I rented some cards last night for the first time, just to see how it works. Might rent some others that I don't use much later too. It is a good option for non-players.

If I remember right I also only started playing in the tournaments only much later.

Was a nice surprise to come back from my social media break to notice that my Splinterlands collection had gone 5x meanwhile :D I don't play the game, therefore I have all my cards on rental market and I'm getting some 5 dollars daily which is not too bad really. Oh, not to forget the aridrop, too!

5 dollars a day is really decent for doing nothing and still gaining the airdrop and having the cards increase in value for the foreseeable future :)

Hope you are well mate and had a great summer.

You are late on the bandwagon. Who says gaming is not productive? I get more HIVE from gaming than I do from blogging (shhh... don't tell anyone). Things are swinging around here.

Very, very late - I wonder if the SF3 gift code is still valid? I might have mine somewhere still :D

I am unlikely to ever get rich from splinterlands - but considering I only bought my first assets maybe 6 weeks ago - the return has been pretty good.

That’s great you dipped your toes into the addictive water if Splinterlands! It’s a lot of fun but also a little tricky to play sometimes lol.

Shit I just read now that you had a stroke! Hope you’re okay man! Was it a miniature one (hard to call such an event mini lol) I hope? Glad you are at least able to keep things going but damn that doesn’t help a lot of things for sure with the house and life!

It has been fun to play, though I am getting hammered at the moment.

Yeah, it was a "small" stroke luckily, so I am not drooling in the corner of the room, but need to do a bit of rehab for the next 6 months or so. Hopefully I will get back to closer to where I was than where I am now. One thing after another in this life....
