Getting Started with Splinterlands - Better late than never! Strategies of a newbie to complete his first Quest!

avatar

So finally I decided to give Splinterlands a try!

I've been hearing so much about it from friends but never really understood the concept, or I didn't try to. So a couple of days back, I just wanted to have a break from all I was doing as life was getting pretty overwhelming and I decided let's check this out. I logged in and didn't wanna buy the Summoner's Spellbook as I was Sure it's just a one time thing and I won't be back to play this again!

First i started by reading the How to Play and the I started to look into the abilities of different monsters and what they could do and all that good stuff. Surprisingly this was like reading a story book, and if you had read my Introduction to HIVE, you know I'm a bookworm! On top of that, being a hardcore Harry Potter fan and all these magical potions and abilities and monsters made this really interesting for me.

Then I started playing a few practice battles and I'll be honest, at first I didn't really like it as I couldn't understand the battle strategies. Even if I won, it was by fluke. I had no idea what i was doing.

Making my first purchase on Monster Market!

But I kept playing and I began to understand more about the strategies and abilities and how to use them in a battle and positioning my monsters etc. Within two day, I got so hooked into this new world, I decided to go ahead and buy the starter pack from Monster Market which is run by @reazuliqbal and @zaku, who also runs the BDCommunity HIVE Witness now! You get a 3% cashbak on ever card you buy from them and it's 100% authentic as you're in fact buying straight from the splinterlands market, using their website.

Completing my first Quest

Now that I had the Summoner's Spellbook I could start doing quests and earning reward from battles! I completed my first quest by playing for 2 hours straight.

My splinter for the quest was Life, damn it! The splinter I didn't like to use at all was my first quest. And I did find it very difficult to win battles using the life monsters available to me at that time, as most of them don't go with my strategies. But that's the challenge, right!

My Strategy

As the cards I could use were limited, I was playing most of the battles with Crystal Jaguar at first position and Horny Toad at second position because of it's reach ability.

I wanted to have a meele attack monster at my second position because when my first position meele attack monster is defeated, I wanted another monster to take place who also has the meele attack. And of the available monsters to me (I know there are probably much better monsters out there, I just don't have them yet) Horny Toad fit my strategy perfectly. While it could come in after Crystal Jaguar was defeated, at the same time it could also attack from position 2!

But if the battle was of a higher mana cap, I really enjoyed using Luminous Eagle. It had the reach as well as flying ability and it's meele attack damage was also better, and it's speed was also better than horny toad!

Towards the end of my quest, Horny Toad was missing too many attacks and the opponents were also stronger and I was losing too many battlse. I had to change strategy a bit. With Crystal Jaguar at position 1, and Luminous Eagle at 2, I decided to go with Elven Mystic at position 3.

The reason for this is magic attacks can be used from any position including position 1. But previously I was having a Range attack monster at position 3, and because the opponents were strong, in all the battles I was losing my position 1 and 2 monster and the position 3 monster was finding itself at position 1 and it was useless as it couldn't attack from position 1. So making this change worked wonder and I chose Mantoid for position 4 as my range attack monster.

As you can see, this change in strategy Worked wonders for me and after a losing streak of straight battles with a range attack monster at position 3, I finally got the last win I needed to complete my daily quest!

Since then, I have kept playing with different splinters and already made my way into the Bronze 1 league in less than a few hours. I'll talk about all the monsters I have enjoyed using so far in my next post as I don't wanna drag this post too much!

Conclusion

I was so wrong to not have tried Splinterlands for so long! This is a wonderful game and everything links up so well and the transactions have been extremely smooth for me. I later bought an untamed booster pack, also from Monster Market! I love this website so much, it's so simple an easy to use, plus you get 3% cashback instantly!

If you haven't dived into this land of magic and monsters yet, I can guarantee you you will love it! Do use My Referal Link to start playing!

Until Next Time!

Peace!

I'm so glad you took the plunge AND that you like it!

I'm much like you... even way back when it first started, I was like, "meh'. But once I gave it a chance I actually really like it... and still do! Last night I was playing on my phone (I never play things on my phone... but it's that fun), I blurted out "I love this game!" LOL!

If you find yourself bored check out some of the LORE blurbs on the website and if you want even MORE nerdy stuff check out Splinterlore.com where you'll find all the offical stuff, maps, and fan art and fiction!

Splinterlands seems to be a very well crafted universe. The possibilities are endless! I'm gonna check out the lores!

I agree! My brain LIVES in the Splinterlands. But to be fair, me and the hubs are creating it...

I'm stoked for the Encyclopedia of the Splinterlands to go out to Kickstarter backers THIS WEEK! PHYSICAL BOOKS! WOO! Once they are out we'll be releasing the book in PDF form for free... cause we want everyone to have access to the info so they can create more amazing things!

And if you have ANY suggestions about the lore site- holla! I've created it and keep it updated... but always want to improve it... and you can't hurt my feelings. I just want it to be awesome. If it's not awesome help me fix it!

Final thought- the phone thing is the funniest to me! I have a bit of an adversion to it and generally dislike that the world lives with their faces in them... but... the game is so fun and it's quite nice to be able to lay on the couch and play. 😎

An actual book! This is real, wow!

Love the idea of having free pdf, but here's a crazy thought. Why don't you guys publish the book and have it physically available at bookstores and libraries.

With an attractive cover and the name Splinterlands is quite intriguing to begin with, this will grab people's attention, people outside crypto, real mass adoption!

I don’t know how feasible it is with publishing cost and all, but just an idea!

About the lore, I'll let you know on diacord if I have anything on my mind.
