So this is unfinished tune,

which will be my official submission for the Splinterland's Music/Lore contest when I finish it. I was just playing around with some instruments in the 'World' pack, from Native Instruments' Komplete Start package, and I thought it had a bit of a medieval vibe, so I rolled with it, adding some strings, bells, timpani's, and hand drums. Next up will be adding a B section of some sort, and alternating the instrumentation/dynamics a bit.

Track 1 uses an instrument

called the 'Oud' which has that guitar/lute sort of vibe, and provides the basic chord progression. The Blue section plays a Dmin (i), Bb (Vi), C (Vii), and Dmin again (played 2x through). When we get to the Green section, there is a bit of dissonance added with some non-diatonic chord changes added. We begin on a Bb, then move up to an E (a tritone away, which initially feels a bit odd, but with the bell melody, works nicely), to Bb again, then C, before resolving to the Dmin in the Blue section.

Track 4, Bells, Green section.

Track 2 is the hand drums,

also from the World pack, which works with the timpani (Track 6) and cymbals (Track 7) to complete our percussion section. Track 3 adds the strings, which stick to the bass/cello range, and Tracks 4 and 5 provide the bells. Track 4 uses the crisp, more staccato bell sound, while 5 provides a more ambient, floaty bell, which fills things out a bit more.

I'm going to continue working on this tonight, so stay tuned and see what it becomes! Thanks for listening!
