My entry for the Spliterlands weekly art contest - Byzantine Kitty

Hi All,

I was recently introduced to the Spliterlands world by my husband @lavista. Though I am not a gamer myself, I instantly fell in love with the art and was inspired to take part in the weekly art contest. I am still new to the game and dipping my toes in the water.

Byzantine Kitty was the cutest artwork I found and I knew this was the character I wanted to create in my own style. So here goes my submission and the process.

Brushes: Various brushes (Default brushes and downloaded brushes)

I basically start with a rough sketch of the cat's head as the base on the sketch layer. And then draw the facial features like eyes, mouth and nose on a different layer. I used watercolor brush for the cats head and pencil brush for the facial features.

I added the highlights and details with watercolor brush and pencil on a different layer for the facial features. Clipped these layers on top of the features layer. I also started with the fur of the cat's head, keeping in mind the direction of the fur. I used a free downloaded procreate brush for this.

Then proceeded to add a new layer and sketched the ears for the cat, covered it with the same furry texture. Added another layer above this layer to draw the inner ear features and other details. I used watercolor brush to draw the inner ears and the details.

Added another layer below the head layer for the body. Added white furry texture and a light brown texture for the shading and depth. Added light brown texture where ever necessary for the face too. Now to make the fur look a little realistic, I used the smudge tool and smudged all the furry texture for the head, body and ears keeping the fur direction in mind.

Added the wings sketch in a separate layer below the body layer. Used various downloaded brushes to fill the wings and used shades of pink to give some depth.

After I completed the wings, I sketched the tail using the dry ink brush that is default in procreate. Smudged using the smudging tool to get the tail and fur effect. Also the white and light brown colors gives good depth to the tail. Then I gave some background effect and it's a wrap. Hope you enjoyed the process and my Byzantine Kitty fan art :)
