Wildlife Photography: Roe Deer - Roebuck / Rehbock

I took these pictures last summer in my home town of Oberdrauburg. These were pretty much my first attempts at wildlife photography with the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary super telephoto zoom lens.

Diese Bilder habe ich im vorigen Sommer in meinem Heimatort Oberdrauburg aufgenommen. Das waren so ziemlich meine ersten Wildlife Photography Versuche mit dem Super-Tele-Zoom-Objektiv Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary.

When I went out hunting that morning last Summer, armed with the heavy lens (1,930 grams), I was really lucky that this cute roebuck came out of the small woodland the moment I got on the hunter's seat.

Als ich an diesem Morgen im letzten Sommer mit dem schweren Objektiv (1.930 Gramm) bewaffnet auf die Jagd gegangen bin, hatte ich richtiges Glück, dass gerade in dem Moment, als ich auf den Jägersitz gestiegen war, dieser süße Rehbock aus dem kleinen Wäldchen gekommen ist.

Of course the roebuck noticed me after a while, but wasn't really scared and only slowly disappeared into the forest again after a while.

Natürlich hat der Rehbock mich nach einer Weile bemerkt, ist aber nicht wirklich ängstlich gewesen und erst nach einer Weile gemächlich wieder im Wald verschwunden.

Oh, I remember that deer, and cool tele lens :) And your first post about it. I remember because.... I dream about tele lens for a long time, and your post run a chain of events ))) I searched the net, undertook a comparative analysis of lenses I like... and then, I decided to sell all - my camera with lenses and buy new 😁😁😁

May I guess? You bought the Sigma 150-600? The Contemporary or the Sports version? The Sports version is even a bit heavier, but faster. If I am right with the lens - what camera did you buy? A mirrorless Canon or Nikon? I love my Canon EOS R, but I cannot say anything against the Nikon Z because I have never had a Nikon myself.

I might be a bit !DERANGED but not only I have a !BEER for you today, but also a !COFFEEA which I have bought at the !MARLIANS !shop 😉

Oh no.... you will be disappointed. All those lens I picked up were too expensive. And I was unsatisfied with all my old equipment. Photography is such an expensive hobby, you know. 2 years ago dream was to earn money on Steemit and buy new camera. But... it failed.

So I purchased Sony A6400 and 18-135 lens. Yes, it's poor but I gives me time to think where to go next, and it is lightweight - perfect for my lowcost travels

Oh no, I am not disappointed. Why should I be? I just thought you might have bought the Sigma because you asked in such a way... ;)

I have never had a Sony, but I have heard they are very good cameras. Last Year I had to make a decision what camera to buy and I decided for the Canon M50 over the Sony A6... I cannot remember which one came out last year. But this camera has been too small for me and I changed to the EOS R. If I had bought the Sony I might have switched to the bigger Sony A7 as well.

So, I do hope and believe you will be happy with your new camera and the lens is certainly great for photographing everywhere 🙂

As much as I strolled through the various woods, and so wish I had seen the roebuck.
Of course the advantage is your equipment.

A long lens is neccessary, of course, because you don't need to get too close to the deer. I see very often roe deer, but most times it is still too dark to take photos, because this lens needs much light that I can shoot hand hold.
I have seen this roebuck once again, but the next times I was there he didn't came out of the woods.

Da bin ich ja auf einem Hochsitz gesessen und anscheinend war der Rehbock die beobachtenden Jäger gewohnt 😉
Er hat ganz ruhig eine Weile auf der Wiese geäst und ist dann gemütlich wieder im Wald verschwunden.

Ich glaube schon - ich esse ganz gerne hin und wieder Wildfleisch, aber selbst schießen? Nein, das könnte ich nicht - braten ja, aber ein Tier töten, ohne dass ich muss? Nein, das könnte ich nicht.

Ich habe gemeint, dass mich das Fotografieren ganz vom Anschauen und Bestaunen dieses schönen und stolzen Tieres abgelenkt hat. Hab mich sicherlich auch falsch ausgedrückt.

Haha - weil ich ein paar Jäger kenne, kenne ich da keinen Spaß - ich nenne sie immer Tiermörder ;) lol
weil sie nicht nur Hege und Pflege betreiben, sondern auch noch dafür bezahlen, bestimmte Tiere abschießen zu dürfen.

Fürs Abschließen zahlst du, und gar nicht wenig, soviel ich weiß. Natürlich gibt es billige und teure Tiere - ein Bär wird natürlich teurer sein, und dazu kommt noch die Reise nach Russland ;)
Mehr kenne ich mich da aber nicht aus, weil die Jagd ist nicht mein Ding.

Wir haben hier mal ein paar Gänse platt gemacht. Das hat mir furchtbar leid getan. Musste aber sein. Gänse sind äußerst destruktiv.

Gänse kenne ich vom Drüberfliegen, wenn sie im Herbst in den Süden ziehen und von Nils Holgerson, aber sonst wüsste ich auch keinen Bauern, der bei uns welche hat.

Kann dazu also auch nichts sagen ... oh doch, Martinizeit im November ist bei uns auch Ganslzeit - lecker 🙂👍 Diese Gänse werden aber extra gezüchtet auf Biofarmen mit Freilauf und so natürlich wie möglich, habe ich mir erklären lassen, und die, die ich vor ein paar Wochen gegessen habe, war vorzüglich.

Gänse sind herrliche Tiere.
Leider aber scheißen sie überall hin. Ok ist nur Grünzeuch was raus kommt, trotzdem unangenehm. Vor allem weil sie bis ans Haus gekommen sind, sich dort auf den Fließen niederließen und, da haben sie wohl keine Kontrolle drüber, ihren Mist raus ließen.
Der Teich den wir ihnen gebaut haben war innerhalb von 4 Wochen so vollgekackt, das man ihn säubern musste.

ich habe sie später in der freien Natur dort wo sie alles haben ausgesetzt. Ich hoffe sie haben überlebt.

So ist es bei uns mit den Tauben - die Leute füttern sie und die Viecher, nicht umsonst "Ratten der Lüfte genannt" scheißen alles voll und du kannst dann schauen, dass du den Dreck vom Auto runterbekommst, bevor er sich in den Lack reinfrisst.

Mit "platt gemacht" habe ich tatsächlich "platt gemacht" gemeint, aber du hast sie dann, wie es scheint, weiter weg in der Natur freigelassen - sehr brav und lobenswert 👍🙂

Die Babys haben wir platt gemacht, waren aber nicht fett genug und haben dann nur als Hundefutter gedient.

Gitta und Gustav konnte ich nicht platt machen, dafür war die Beziehung dann doch zu stark. Sie frassen mir aus der Hand und kamen wenn ich sie rief.

Wenn man den ersten Satz liest und den Zusammenhang nicht kennt - ich hoffe, der Uruguayanische Geheimdienst liest nicht mit und leitet den Satz an die Polizei weiter ;) lol

Ich hätte das nicht können - so schlimm können die Tiere mich gar nicht vollscheißen ;)
Als wir Kinder waren, hatten wir Hasen, welche zum Essen gezüchtet worden sind. Einmal waren wir beim Schlachten dabei und das Töten erfolgte so wie damals üblich mit einem Holzscheit... Der Hase hat noch gezuckt, wir haben gedacht, er hat große Schmerzen, haben ihn geschnappt und sind mit dem toten Hasen davongelaufen, bis er nicht mehr gezuckt hat. Heute kann ich über die Geschichte lachen, aber ich würde mir auch dann schwer tun, ein Tier zu töten, wenn ich keinen anderen Ausweg hätte, aber das hatten wir ja schon mal mit deiner Schlange ;)

Beim Hühnerschlachten habe ich zu Hause beim Nachbarn öfters zugeschaut und manchmal ist eine Henne nach dem Kopf Abschlagen geflüchtet und dann kopflos eine Weile herumgelaufen bis sie umgefallen ist ;) Das hat mir komischerweise nicht wirklich viel ausgemacht.

Das ist richtig, selbst machen könnte ich es nur, wenn ich wirklich müsste - wenn es nichts Anderes mehr zu essen gäbe als das Huhn, das im Garten herumläuft.

ES war halt einfacher die Jungtiere zu schlachten als das Elterntierpaar zu dem ich ja eine Beziehung aufgebaut hatte.

Das ist vollkommen verständlich.
Meine Mutter hat damals die Hasen gefüttert und sie hatten auch Namen. Sie hätte sie aber nicht schlachten oder essen können. Sie hat die Hasen aber für uns gebraten, abschmecken musste jedoch ein anderer.

ich dachte mir damals die Gänse als etwas Besonders, das waren sie dann auch. Habe sogar extra vor meine Büro und Schlafzimmer einzäunen lassen damit die nicht mehr so dicht ans Haus komme, weil sie eben alles voll machten.

Als wir dann aber eine Nutzgarten machen wollten, haben wir gemerkt, dass denen nichts heilig war. Du kannst mit den Tieren nichts anbauen.

Darum haben wir dann gesagt, weg mit denen. Nur Gitta und Gustav hätte ich niemals töten können. Selbst das aussetzen ist mir verdammt schwer gefallen.

Ja, verstehe ich, ein Tier, an das man gewöhnt ist, einfach irgendwohin zu setzen und dann dort allein zu lassen, ist sicherlich schwierig.
Ich verstehe deshalb auch die Leute nicht, die junge Hunde, die sie nicht mehr wollen, auf Autobahnrastplätzen aussetzen.

Great shots. Wild life photography is not easy. One has to be very patient. The object or subject is never still for longer. By the time you focused you camera, they have moved. 😊 Have a great weekend.

Right, and patiens is one thing I don't have. If I expect so see a deer or rabbit or any other animal or bird I want to see it within a few minutes or I'll move on. I cannot sit for hours and wait. So I am always glad, when I see a deer or other wildlife 😉
And of course, they move - when the light is not bright enoughI don't get the shutterspeed I need, and so the images are not as sharp as possible.

Yes, I have seen it, and I loved it, when he looked straight at me - these photos haven't been sharp enough though.

Oh, that's no fawn - that's an adult roebuck, but I must admit that it is very cute, @cloudblade 🙂
Such are called high seat and the hunters sit there waiting for deer to come - just like I did, but I only photographed it ;)

A roebuck does not have much longer antlers - they are quite small deer, as you say it right 🙂 ... they are small and cute.

Yes, I did climb up there, but I did not have to wait long, because right when I sat down the deer jumped out of the forest. I think it has seen me smiling and this is why it didn't run away 😉
You know I could never be a hunter - maybe I could kill an animal if my family wouldn't have anything to eat anymore, but otherwise I'd only watch the animals and take photos, of course 🙂

Yes very true. Although I do a disservice to other animals like birds if I take photos of them because the photos are so bad!

Birds are not easy to photograph. You need much patience, a steady hand and a fast shutterspeed, because birds are so fast moving.

You must feed them and talk to them and when you are friends with them they will come to you and you can take as many close-up photos as you want 👍😉
