Documenting My Splinterlands Knowledge - How to start

Hello there.

I'm outwars, and I have been playing Splinterlands since August 2021. After more than a year of playing, I still continue to learn new things about the game. Because of this, I think it would be best to make posts of what I know so I can easily go back to them, and to share them to those new to the game.

To begin, I'll first share a brief overview on what Splinterlands is.

Splinterlands is a Crypto card game where you can own game assets and earn while playing. I can describe its gameplay as a PVP, card autobattler where you choose which cards to use against your opponent given a specific ruleset. Winning battles and completing quests grant rewards that can increase your collection, and your earnings.

How to start playing Splinterlands:

Head to the Splinterlands Website:

Click PLAY NOW and you will be shown this:

You can login with the different crypto wallets available, or click the "CREATE ACCOUNT" and proceed with the account creation process. You should then see this:

You can choose to "PLAY TUTORIAL" or 'SKIP'. Eventually, you'll end up in the main page:

If you didn't do the tutorial, you can click 'BATTLE' to start playing and get a feel for the game. Here is a sample of how the battle looks:

Each battle has its own ruleset, and you choose a summoner, and up to 6 monsters, each with their own stats and abilities. The summoner with the last monster standing wins.

You might be wondering why you don't earn any rewards. There are currently a few things you need to do before you can start earning. I'll explain each briefly here, but I'll explain them more in detail in my succeeding posts:

• Obtain the Spellbook
  The Splinterland game runs on the Hive blockchain and requires a Hive account. Buying the spellbook automatically includes the creation of the Hive account, as well as getting 3000 credits, which is a non tradeable in-game currency worth 3 dollars. Splinterlands also gave out free spellbooks before as promotion to entice new players. But these spellbooks do not include the 3000 credits.

• Use owned/rented/delegated assets
  To prevent players from just creating a massive number of accounts, use bots, and earn unlimited rewards, the Splinterlands team required players to use cards apart from the starter cards included in the spellbook. These can be owned, rented from the market, or delegated to the account by others.

• Win in Bronze league
  To reach Bronze league, you need to reach a minimum of 100 rating. Each league has its own rating and power requirements. The higher the league, the better the rewards.

In the meantime, try to play a few battles and familiarize yourself with the game. Try to hold off on using your credits if you can for now.

Splinterlands is not for the faint of heart and weak willed. Like a lot of card games, it is very competitive and cutthroat. But for those willing to take the challenge, a fun, complex, and exciting game awaits that rewards its players. Splinterlands is one of the games that is still going strong even in this current Crypto bear market.
