The Grumpy Dwarf from Ironforge - Splinterlands Weekly Battle Challenge Story

Let's talk about Dwarfs! They always been around in myths and legends, as brave warriors and resilient fighters, as top blacksmiths and weaponsmiths, or just as 7 funny companions for Snow White!

However, in 99% of the cases... they are grumpy! If you watched Lord of the Ring or the Hobbit, you know what I am talking about!

Now the grumpiness came to Splinterlands as the Grumpy Dwarf was selected for this week battle challenge! This common neutral Beta card can be handy in the second position, with the Reach ability. Is that 1 Armor bonus given by a Mithril vest? Is the Dwarf grumpy because he is Ironforge homesick?

The Grumpy Dwarf costs 4 Mana, a bit expensive for his stats! With one Armor, 2 Health Points, 1 Melee Damage and 2 Speed, it looks quite week in my opinion. The Magma Troll costs 4 Mana, was Reach and better stats, same with the Electric Eels.

Battle 1: Un'Goro Crater Dominance! The Dwarf and the Giant Devilsaur worked together to clear the nasty fire elementals from Un'Goro. Standard battlerules with 20 mana cap gave little flexibility so I went for OP damage. See the full battle here!

Summoner: Contessa L'Ament: -1 Ranged to enemy monsters'

Undead Rexx: Main Tank with OP damage

Grumpy Dwarf: Off-Tank with Reach

Twisted Jester: Ranged with Snipe

Furious Chicken: Free KFC spicy wings

The opponent played a Dragon/Fire team, boosting the monsters with +1 Armor from the Drake summoner. Round One started with free spicy wings as the chicken was burned. The Lava Elemental took hard damage and at the end of Round Three it melted away.

The Dwarf was so grumpy that he refused to damage the Lava Elemental, and continued to be useless until he was shoot down. The Undead Rexx got angry and had some Pixies for lunch!

Battle 2: Defending Ironforge The Grumpy Dwarf had to defend his home from the bloodthirsty horde. Orcs, goblins and trolls led a full assault, trying to penetrate the stronghold. Standard battlerules with 24 mana cap made it easier to crop a better tactic. See the full battle here!

Summoner: Contessa L'Ament: -1 Ranged to enemy monsters'

Undead Rexx: Main Tank with OP damage

Grumpy Dwarf: Off-Tank with Reach

Undead Priest: Weaken - Reduce the enemy health

Creeping Ooze: Slow - Reduce the enemy speed

Twisted Jester: Ranged with Snipe

Cursed Slimeball - no point to sacrifice another chicken

Life v Death is always fun. Jester hits first and is one shot - one kill. The Undead Rexx hits the Orc armor and he retaliates. The Dwarf hits the Orc and the Orc retaliates again. The Slimeball is squashed on the floor. Rexx bites again and the Orc is defeated. The battle is getting heated and the Unicorn Mustang joins the fight.

I lost the Twisted Jester but the Mustang had no chance against the resurrected colossal dinosaur. The assault on the gates has stopped... it's time to retaliate! We shall take no prisoners today!

The 1v1 battle between the Unicorn Mustang and the Undead Rexx was epic but was the puny goblin who took down my fossil. The goblin had the chance to secure the win and he went for the coup du grace ... and missed! Bronzebeard dodged the killing blow and with a swing of the axe settled the battle.

The Grumpy Dwarf may get even grumpier when I will tell him that he's not good enough. He was useless in the first battle and he won the second battle by pure luck.

There are other cards with slightly better stats for the same mana, but I assume that the 1 Armor point is valued more than 1 or 2 health points as it can stop a higher damage attack. Still not thinking to use the Grumpy Dwarf more often ... have other favorites.
