Steem Monster: Updating My SM Cards

Steem Monster Splinterlands is really an interesting game and somehow hard if you didn't get the basic or understanding what the game is all about. After lot of beatings from talented steem monster users, I decide to upgrade my game cards which requires lot of steem and Sbd. I was so surprised after upgrading fire card to level 2, I couldn't use it in ranked battle again. Was so surprised.

I thought I could use it to defeat level 1 players, when I didn't see the card showing up in every game I played, I was shocked, but it shows when I play tournament match or challenge someone. If there any reason for this? I need more knowledge and enlightenment in this game.
